Article: Veterans Or Youth

First outings of the spring do not mean much.  Much more interested in 2 weeks when regulars start playing more and pitchers who have a chance of making the club pitch meaningful innings.

If Nolasco is getting rocked around March 25, will really hope the Twins cut him, and most clubs will for veterans to give them a chance to catch on elsewhere.  Keeping him because of his contact should not be an option as it was 3-4 years ago, when other options did not exist.

I think one more veteran, especially a lefty, would be optimum. People who are counted on get injured or become ineffective.

 

I understand the Twins giving Nolasco an extended opportunity this spring, but he hasn't done nearly enough to be guaranteed anything.

I get that. Let's hope Nolasco turns things around. And, let's hope the Twins dump him if he doesn't.

And let's hope the proper course of action is blatantly obvious very early in the year and decision doesn't get dragged out.

Another option is a trade to fill the LH RP role.  This is probably the least popular among fans, but it allows the Twins to obtain a proven player, with team control and not invest a bunch of money.

In a way, what the FO does with Nolasco will be an indicator on whether it's business as usual. If he is in the rotation solely based on his veteran contract status, that's not a good sign. Signing him just didn't work out, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet, and move on!

Sometimes you have to do that, but we don't know if this is sometimes yet. What team would cut damages goods without giving them a chance to reestablish themselves?
