Silly Baseball trivia

I wouldn't have gotten it without your clue that he "technically played after the inception of the All-Star game."

Crazy is that he actually played two seasons longer than Ruth, but he was effectively finished as an effective player by then, so Ruth made two All-Star teams, while Hornsby made none.

Here's a brain buster for you.

Who was the first player in All-Star game history to bat against the same pitcher 10 or more years apart? Bonus points if you can name the pitcher and years of the all star games.

Just hitting, not collecting a hit...I'm going to go with Hank Aaron or Willie Mays. My other line of thinking is George Brett.

I think I figured it out, but I will withhold my (extensive) research and give others a chance to guess.

Although I will say, it seems a mild date technicality prevents a Twins pitcher from being part of the answer...?

All 3 are incorrect... at least they weren't mentioned on the website I found this obscure baseball trivia question on/

You're right, but one of the two guys I was thinking of Brett hitting against is the guy the answer to your question hit against (after doing the research), so I'm giving myself partial credit. For some reason, I just didn't realize that there was that much time between All-Star appearances there.

I've got a good one for the next question...

Totally forgot to give the answer to the question I brought up:

Who was the first player in All-Star game history to bat against the same pitcher 10 or more years apart? Bonus points if you can name the pitcher and years of the all star games.

For those that guessed Rod Carew, you are correct! He had a PA against Tom Seaver in the 1968 and 1981 AS games...

I found this trivia question ironic, because this is what Miguel Sano or ABW could be in the future....

Can you name the only player to win an MVP Award while leading the league in errors as fielder and strikeouts as a hitter?

Leading the entire league at all positions or just leading his position? That would drastically change the answer.

For all positions during that year.

Dang it, you are right.  I actually combed some box scores around Carew and Seaver, but I missed that.

I thought your 10 or more years apart was a Twins-related trick question thing, because Morris faced Dawson in the 1981 and 1991 all star games, but due to the strike, the 1981 game was in August and thus less than 10 calendar years from the 1991 game.

After that, I think Clemens and Gwynn were the next to face each other 10 years apart in an all-star game.

I think the MVP answer is Joe Gordon of the Yankees.  Back in the 40s.

That's why I asked if it was position or for overall. I had a trivia question once about how Gordon was the first to win while leading the league in K's and GIDP's and that he led all 2B in errors that season, but not the league. It was discussed in Ken Burns Baseball as well, I believe.

Out of all the players who have hit 30+ HRs in a season, which player had the least amount of RBI's to go with the 30 HRs? Bonus points for the year in which this anomaly occurred...

I believe that was Rob Deer but I could be wrong.  Late 80s or early 90s, when scoring was down.

How does the ratio compare to Trevor Plouffe's 24 HR, 55 RBI season in 2012?

Close. But this player in the trivia question hit 30 HRs and supposedly his RBI total with 30 HRs is the lowest in MLB history.

After doing a B-R Play Index search, the lowest was Rob Deer in 1992 with 32 homers and 64 RBI. That was tied by Felix Mantilla in 1964, who hit 30 and drove in 64. So, gunnarthor was correct.

My apologies, the baseball quiz I saw the question on was wrong then. The answer they had was Ryne Sandberg who had 30 HRs 76 RBI in 1989.

Sweet.  Man, after you said it wasn't Rob Deer, I was really curious who it was but was doing my best not go google the answer.  Glad I got the answer before I went home.
