So come his preseason prospect rankings, Jay may very well be the Twins top prospect.

I hope he's good, Sano and Buxton have kept the top of the Twins list sexy for quite awhile.  The luster and prestige seems like it will be gone.

With Stewart's lack of strikeouts and Gordon's complete lack of power they might slide a ways in the rankings.

It's early but the results have exactly looked promising from the last two drafts

I pegged Jay as top 5 when Buxton was still included so nice to be in the ballpark for my list.  Once Buxton and Sano leave the MiLB system where will we be rated?  Will we still be top 5 due to depth?  If Berrios gets called up this year or next then I wonder where the Twins will fall in the rankings.

Gotta be honest - If Sano, Buxton and Berrios are all "inelligible" for prospect status because they are contributing significantly to the success of the big league club, I become much less concerned about the Twins' minor league organization's overall ranking. At that point, anything above middle of the pack is great with me (as long as the Kernels continue to be postseason participants, of course!).

I would say 15-20.

You lose your top three plus Rosario, two of which were elite.  Then you have Kohl, Gordon, and Meyer likely to take a step back.

Completely agree that it becomes less important when we have 6-7 guys on the MLB roster and hopefully there for some time

Kepler could be a top 100 prospect by the end of the year. I think he's more likely to fit there than Gonsalves or Hu.

Totally agree with this. If Kepler keeps this up, adding performance to considerable ceiling, he could sniff top 50. Unless Gonsalves really blows up in High A after his shaky start, don't see either coming all that close to top 100.

I anticipate Sano using up prospect eligibility, but would be stunned if Berrios pitches 50 innings in the bigs. That would take 3-4 significant injuries to starters. He will be a representative #1 prospect in the system. Combined with depth, Twins will probably be a low end top 10 system.

I like Kepler but he's a corner guy and showing no power this year.  His low K numbers will open some eyes, but I think he'll struggle to get to the top 100 with those low power numbers.

I think Hu and Gonsalves are locks if they don't fall apart in the 2nd half.

Gonsalves and Hu will be ranked lower than Stewart unless he gets hurt. On merit.

Kepler's power numbers are pretty good (ISO of .193 this year). For comparison, Tori Hunter's career ISO is .185, and Jacques Jones had a career ISO of .172. Now obviously those are majors numbers versus minors numbers, but Kepler is also only 22 and clearly has room to still fill out his 6 foot 4 frame.  The point is that there is more to power than home runs, as Byron Buxton is currently demonstrating. Kepler hits a lot of doubles and triples. Kepler also bring other assets to the table, even if his power does end up being below average for a corner outfielder, such as a high OBP, low strikeout rates, good defense for a corner outfielder, and even the ability to steal a few bases.

I'll tell you all what Terry Ryan told me this spring training.  When I complimented his high ranking minor league system, he said, "I don't put stock in the ranking of minor leaguers, what matters is how much they help our big league club"..."We have a few guys that we think can help us this year"...

So Jay starts in Ft. Myers now that he is signed.

I don't know if he starts or is out of the pen.  His last college game he threw 96 pitches and wasn't his sharpest after 75-80 or so pitches of course that was also one of the best college teams there is.  Maybe a piggyback starter to begin with, don't know if the Twins do much of that (two SP pitch ~4 IP each) but it might be a good way to wet his feet in extended inning outings.

I am guessing he is in the pen this year and begins starting full time next year. I think that is the right move.  He has already pitched quite a bit in short increments this year and has an outside chance of helping the big club this year in the pen.

The other thing I would say.  If they were transitioning him to starting they probably would have put him in rookie ball or Cedar Rapids at best, not high A.

I'm guessing by merit you mean draft position?

Next year's rankings could be all over the place.  The more agressive guys might put guys like Kepler, Hu and Gonsalves higher than guys like Stewart and Gordon.  Most seem pretty orthodox though and will still use pre-draft evaluatoins and draft position as a major factor.

I meant starts his career in Ft Myers, and I apologize for being inarticulate, at least in a baseball sense

I definitely think Kepler is a 100 possibility, I am not so sure of Gonsalves or Hu, but if they stay strong in second half, i give it a maybe, how is that for staying on the fence ;) LOL
