Rotation on a leash

Molitor has already named Boyer as a seventh inning guy, so at this early point in the season, any starting pitcher in the rotation might reasonably be asked to pitch no more than 6 innings

Based on some of those meatballs that Boyer served up today, I find it unreasonable to expect no more than 6 innings from the starting pitchers.  :)

Or as many as 6 innings, I should have said.

Probably Nolasco and Hughes have had trouble getting loose in the cold weather this first series. Forecast is looking nice for Chicago this weekend, fortunately.

Could we hire the Tigers trainer as a paid consultant on the side for cold weather situations?  He somehow got Price and Sanchez (and the relievers, even Joe Nathan) plenty loose.   :)

This kind of leash definition is incomplete -- what threshold of performance would be necessary for said pitcher to lose his job at that point?

Performance? Must that be part of the evaluation?

Milone was fantastic today. His fastball location was perfect and kept White Sox hitters off balance all game. He pounded Abreau inside with success. Great execution by Milone and great sequencing by Suzuki.

I hold out an irrational hope that this year, it is only mid-May......

I think it's rational to hold this hope and to discount past history, for two reasons. One, the rotation, despite the loss of Ervin and the possible loss of Ricky, should limit the need for reinforcements, but second and more importantly, my bet is they'll be more confident about this season's options. Besides May and Meyer, who we have heard are on call, I'm speculating that they feel better about Rogers, Wheeler, and maybe even Duffey and Berrios than they felt about their #7-8 starters last season.
