Molitor may tinker with bullpen usage

Okay. You have a closer. You have an 8th inning guy both right and left. Doesn't mean they can't also pitch the 7th. But you usually limit to one inning because you might want to pitch them multiple days consecutively. If you can, you like a one-out lefty. Then you have a long man, both from the right and left side. Someone who can pitch a minimum of two innings and up to 4 or 5 if called upon. Then you have that guy you stash in the back that is the mop up guy in blowouts, or can itch if it is a totally non-save situation, who will develop into one of your prime pitchers in the future.

Teams with max effort slingers probably can't ask their guys to consistently throw 30 pitches.

Any data or specific insights to show why not?

I'd assume a 30 pitch outing would be matched with an appropriate amount of rest and, at that point, it just depends on what's harder between warming up and 30 pitches no more often than every other day or warming up for shorter outings in more rapid succession. I'd say the 30 pitches might actually be better.

If the Twins really want to start using relievers in longer stretches, I suggest the starting staff better pitch longer as well.  It could be a case against May pitching 5 innings as a 5th starter? I wonder if this will lead to more relievers shuffling form the big club to AAA?

I didn't see anything about the guys getting extra rest. If they did, I fail to see how the bullpen would be any more efficient.

I think it just works out that way because of the math.

Longer outings = fewer outings = more time between outings.

Unless I'm missing something.
