Johan's Venezuelan Debut

I bet the Yankees make him a spring training invite offer. But where he goes from there is hard to imagine.

What would he look like pitching opening day at the new St. Paul Saints stadium as he makes his way back to the majors?!

I'd offer him the following assuming he at least looks healthy:

$2 million dollar (+ up to 4 million more in incentives based on IP) for 2015

Team option 4 million (plus 5 million in incentives) for 2016.

This way, Johan gets a decent pay day for 2015, if he comes back to form (slight chance I know) then the Twins get to keep him for an extra year at a team friendly deal.

It's not like it would kill the Twins to stash Johan in the bullpen until he is up to speed anyways, better him as the mop up guy to start the year then just another AAAA retread.

I think he could actually be an absolute beast in the bullpen, and possibly even could start if everything breaks right. Additionally he would be a GREAT clubhouse presence for some of the younger pitchers. Who better to learn from then one of the best pitchers of the past 15 years?

Before working 2 perfect innings on 1/13 for Magallanes, Johan Santana warmed up multiple times around a 3-hour rain delay. @LVBP_Oficial

Let's see:

Jacque Jones, Jason Kubel, Matty Guerrier, Jason Bartlett and now Torii Hunter and Johan Santana?  Sure. Why not.  Matinee reruns. Eric Milton and Carlos Silva are free agents too.

Johan Santana has been scratched from remainder of Venezuelan Winter League championship series, agent Peter Greenberg confirms.

So sad if this is the end.

Johan Santana, a free agent, still may throw for MLB scouts, according to Peter Greenberg, but those plans are unclear.

Unless Johan has the worst business manager of all time, he does not need the money.  Also, he has endured a lot of pain recovering from some serious surgery and trying to get back into pitching shape.

I am not going to express an opinion as to whether Santana would be a good signing, but I do admire his work ethic and his love for the game.
