I remember acquiring an unopened pack of 1987 Topps cards in around 1993 or so, and the gum was rather inedible already by that time.  (Some might argue it was always inedible )

Yeah, that was a bummer - I wanted the t-shirt but I wasn't all that interested in the rest of it.

I always chewed the duplicate cards and collected the gum.  Who knew?

Sadly, there was never a deal for Kirby to be used by any card company when he died, and by the looks of it, that won't change.

I put the gum in the spokes of my bike, attached with a clothespin, natch. It lasted longer than the baseball cards my friends used. Much stiffer.
