pretty sure you lose the money in the pot for every guy in teh top 10 that goes unsigned.... you don't get to reallocate it elsewhere.

Yeah, the Twins will lose the $200K for that spot, but his deal was reportedly for 260K, so the team will have an extra 60K. It probably won't make a difference, but you never know...

Any updates today?

nuttin twins related. if this year's deadline is like previous year's, though, it'll take a couple hours for everything shake out once it passes at 4pm.

The signing deadline is Friday. Any word on whether the Twins are still negotiating with L.J. Mazzilli?

Jim Callis just tweeted that he expects Mazzilli to sign. I would guess that, if he does, he will receive a significant amount of the unspent bonus pool.

27th round pick LP Jerad Grundy just announced on Twitter he will be heading back to Kentucky for his senior year. I thought the Twins had a shot to sign him, plus they have a handful of Wildcat lefties in their system. Apparently the pull of #BBN was too strong...

we had $260k of our pool in savings to play with and $90k has gone to larson, leaving us $170k. hopefully we signed another one or two guys with that.

i see we signed zach larson, our 20th rounder, for $190k. interesting....

After the pursuit of Mazzilli and Knab came up fruitless, it's not a shocker that the team spent some of their banked money on the prep outfielder from Florida.

The fact that two top 10 round guys went unsigned is very surprising. (The last three drafts have seen all single-digit draftees sign.)

At this point, the Twins left $178.5K unspent... it wouldn't surprise me if we learn of another late round pick being bought out of a commitment.

With my math (and the recent subtraction and additions) we are looking at 26 signings out of 43 draftees. I am keeping tract of them here, because the BA site just updates too slowly for my liking.

Jim Callis just reported an "unsigning". It was Andre Martinez. Purely speculation here, but I would guess they came to some sort of an agreement, he reported to Fort Myers for a physical and the Twins found something they didn't like. Now there will be no deal... and extra money in the pot (the overage that was reported he got).

The tables have turned back around... and Martinez did sign according to BA. I'll file this one under "WTF?"

I think BA got fooled as well. At one point they had him listed as signed in the draft database, but just in the past couple of days they moved him back to unsigned.

I agree with 26, but Leverett doesn't appear to have signed (yet) and after a full 360, Andre Martinez, apparently, did.

I'll believe those two when I see them :)

Leverett is a senior. He is quitting baseball or going to independents?

Yeah. He was reportedly signed early, but just yesterday (or the day before), Callis reported an "unsigning". He rarely jumps the gun on these things, so when I read that the logical explanation was that he agreed to sign and failed a physical. I'm curious what happened in the last 48 hours to cause all the the (mis)reporting.

A pretty uninspired lot, too many flawed relief arms.

Maybe one day I'll be wrong, but not a fan.

Re: Leverett

LINK

My guess is that he'll re-surface next July in the organization.

From that link (emphasis mine) :

Leverett, a senior at Georgia Southern, signed with the Minnesota Twins as a pitcher in early June and a week later was released due to the injury.

He did sign technically, regardless the fact that he is no longer with the organization... Now he is a free agent able to sign with anyone after rehab etc., it appears

And yeah Martinez signed too, so it is 27 (26 still in the organization)

We'll agree to disagree (again!) :)

I would argue that his deal wasn't official until he passed his physical, which he didn't. Impossible to say exactly what happened.

Of the 30 teams in the MLB, the Twins had the 2nd most money left unspent in their bonus pool. That shouldn't surprise anyone. For one, it's the Twins and for two, they had the most money to spend.

The team that left the most money unspent...? The Yankees. They spent only about $3.8m out of their $4.2m allotment. How crazy is that?!

One could also turn that around, and say that the Twins spent more on the draft than anyone else.

Well, to be fair, had the TWins signed Mazzilli, and we certainly believe they tried, they would have been pretty close to the limit.
