gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I didn't see this posted on here so I'll post it. Mayo at mlb.com ranked the Twins 21-25 prospects. http://minors.mlblogs.com/2014/09/04/bonus-twins-prospects-nos-21-25/ This is Mayo's intro: "Next up are the Minnesota Twins, one of the organizations I like writing about the most. I’ve long liked the way they go about their business and their system is one of the better ones in baseball. Even with injuries to the top guys, No. 1 overall prospect Byron Buxton and No. 9 Miguel Sano, the Twins have a tremendous amount of potential impact talent. Including Buxton and Sano, the Twins have six players in the top 40 on our Top 100 list, with the addition of Nick Gordon via the 2014 Draft.No. 11 prospect Kennys Vargas just graduated off, meaning No. 21 below is now officially in the Top 20. The 21-25 list is still pretty solid, showing you just how good this system is."
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I have not heard of Rainis Silva. Not a name I'd have expected to see.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 Yeah, me neither. But Mayo is pretty plugged into FO so Silva might be a guy to watch going forward.
drjim Provisional Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Silva was a mid six figure International Free Agent. Does seem a little aggressive.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Very interesting. I was thinking of putting him in the bottom half of a top 50 list. 17. Catcher, Can hit. Reported very good defensively. He's intriguing at least.
Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Silva's one of the catchers in the instructional league (along with all the familiar Twins Catching prospects) - maybe someone will have some observations to share in terms of how he fares relative to the other guys.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I guess Silva gets to be this year's Engelb Vielma.
Jeremy Nygaard Twins Daily Contributor Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 When someone types "I've never heard of Rainis Silva", I read it as "I don't listen to Twins Hangouts". Seth and I both put him as our #4 catching prospect behind Turner, Garver and Navarreto. I have Silva's bonus at $175K, which is definitely not very big.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 But Jeremy... we already knew that nobody listens to us...

Pretty good D behind the plate, it's his bat that needs work on it. I'll tell you what I see tomorrow, whether he's playing or one of the other five catchers in camp is. If he's catching side sessions, I'll shoot some video of that too.
Platoon Verified Member Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Spoiler alert, snarky comment to follow: Maybe we could bring him up this fall, and Gardy could get him some games when we aren't playing a contender??
Platoon Verified Member Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 But in a more serious tone, has the following got anything to do with Gardy's choice of catchers?? Mi apologize for being off topic, but the thought just occurred to me, so I went to the Google. http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2014/08/13/twinsights-kurt-suzuki-collects-first-part-potential-500000-bonus-package/ I

Not much of a podcast guy in general. Don't really listen to any of them, just like to read. I do remember the name now... Still surprised to see it that high given the depth of talent in the system.
