I'm really curious how much of a draft budget the Twins have this year.

With the newly instated slot caps, there's not as much room for going over budget. I think you could pretty accurately predict what they'll spend by looking at the picks they have and the respective limits.

I'm not concerned with going over budget, I'm concerned about going under budget. Could you imagine the fallout if they passed on Buxton, Zimmer, Zunino and took Wacha or Almora (both top 10 guys but probably not top 5), signed them for 1-2m less than the recommended slot and then didn't use that money elsewhere? As Roger pointed out, if the Twins don't spend all of that 12m+, everyone should be pretty pissed.

I agree with some of Souhan's suggestions. Cut Marquis, send Pavs and Blackburn to the pen, start Swarzak, Duensing, Diamond, Walters, and Hendriks. Keep Gardenhire, but replace Vavra with Bruno. DO NOT trade Span; right now you won't get squat for him, even though he's the star of the team.

 

The starters on this team are worn out, so use younger arms and get ready to call up more for relief duty. Also, get Slama up here and get David Bromberg up to Rochester to get ready for his MLB debut, which I would do in about one month. More than anything else this team needs healthy young arms to keep games respectable. Second priority is to get them hitting the ball harder. Sure, hit it where it's pitched, but hit it HARD!

Souhan is gutless. It's Gardenhire who has to go. He's an odious presence in that dugout, a proven loser. No other organization in the game would coddle someone like this. Ryan, too, but that can wait.

I know. People are getting pretty desperate. Maybe it just appeals to people to fave familiar names (like Lombardozzi in that preposterous Span trade) involved. I would want people from totally outside to take over things.

---I'm with you on bringing in people from outside. I don't understand the people like Souhan who insist that it's time for a change, then suggest firing people and replacing them with other guys in the organization or famous former Twins.

 

If there's going to be change, it needs to be real change - fresh faces and fresh ideas.
