  1. Someone needs to buy the team. The extension of Gardenhire and Anderson, along with Ryan.was a predictable fiasco. Count me as one of the ones who've been bashing these passe' clots for years, but, most of us know by now that starting with the wholesale dumping of Big Papi, that."The Twins Way" was way stupid and self-defeating a long, long time ago. I don't know the Pohlads, I only know their committment.to.incompetence based.on.some kind.of good old whitebread moron calculus. They should have given the managerial job to Tony.O after TK, but, that was that and this is now. Are there any billionaires.or companies out there with a hankering for the team?.Anybody know?.Would the.Pohlads ever sell? Is there a worse run.org.in.MLB today? Honestly,.is there?.The Astros seem to have hope? The Mets may be on the cusp.of a turnaround. I.consider.it a bad habit that.I still follow the team in a cursory fashion.at all, but, it's not a.matter.of.cheap cynicism anymore. A fourth.year in a row of close to.100 losses or worse with no.hope.on.the.horizon is more than a wake up call. In baseball.fandom, it's imperative there be a complete overhaul, starting at the top.
  2. Willingham, Mauer, Morneau, Span would all bring nothing in trades. Trade Gardenhire for a decent trainer and the team would improve immeasurably.
  3. With Hire at the helm, they're sure to lose 100 games next year.
  4. Forget Toriii. It would make the Twins look like the Angels of old signing washed up veterans only "Please, lover come back!" worse in the shadow of the Dodgers winning championships. If he was a pitcher who could still pitch a la Blyleven in late '86 - it'd be different.
  5. Morneau showed a lot the last few weeks and I think he's set for a very good year. Parmalee, on the other hand, has shown nothing, so keep Morneau and trade Parmalee. Against trading Span or Willingham as well. They wont get anything close in return , it would be legitimate foolishness to do so.
  6. I appreciate the effort you put into your given, but the info I showed above kind of hurts that given. And the guys I used finished 3-6 in innings played at shortstop, so it's a strong sample size. In any event, if your given was true...that if spread out far enough everyone would have the same amount of balls in zone and the same of plays made on them....then their Rherwould be the same...since RZR is the average. If your given was true, they wouldn't even use the RZR, it'd be meaningless. They're likely to lose 90 plus again. There's gotta be somebody other than Dozier or Florimon.
  7. Personally, I'd rather see Dan Gladden be the 2014 mgr. than Molitor. Nothing against Molitor. It's just that I think Gladden could provide the intensity to shake off all the doldroms of the past decade plus.
  8. So long as Hire remains the mgr. they will lose and lose big. The changes are better than nothing, but not by much.
  9. The Yankees suck, that's why exactly. As far as "Because he dates women we dream about" - there's only one woman on that list I'm halfway attracted to (Scarlett J.). The rest aren't much more than floozies.
  10. All good picks. The AL MVP could be a tie a la Keith Hernandez/Willie Stargell in the '79 NL.
  11. So long as Gardenhire's the manager they'll be one of the worst teams in the game. No one wants to play for a moron.
  12. Unfortunately for the Twins - Nishi's personal integrity does not obviate the black stain his signing indicated about the organization. Whoever had the most authority in heralding him as a speedster/defensive Phenom/ terrific hitter is still running the team in one way or another and whether it was Ryan, or Gardenhire, or one of the Pohlads, it doesn't augur well for the future. If they can turn the team into a laughingstocks once they can do it again and again. If it was one of the Pohlads who the prime mover of the Nishi signing, then the problem will nearly be impossible to fix. But, we know it was Gardenhire who got rid of J.J.Hardy in no small measure I'm sure because J.J. didn't kiss his ass enough, so it's a logical speculation that Hardy liked the idea of having a deferential, monumentally grateful non-modern ballplayers be his shortstop. Every day he's on the job, the organization has the stench of failure.
  13. I'm a pretty big Casilla fan too, but I can't blame the manager. Gardy stuck with Alexi a long time and he didn't progress. The thing that I am lamenting is that as the seasons have gone along, Casilla has matured. The mental errors have diminished and he has made quite a number of hustle or heads-up plays. He just hasn't been able to produce the amount of offense necessary to be a regular player and by choice has limited his versatility. If the Twins had a competent SS both offensively and defensively, I think Casilla could fit in fine as the ninth starter, hitting 9th, playing good defense, stealing bases and having his contribution with the bat considered a bonus. No, Iwedt had it right. Recall when Gardenhire denigrated Casilla and Carlos Gomez as "The Loose Cannons"? Does anyone think Jim Leyland just for instance would use that kind of "humor" as a motivating tool? . . edited per comment policy . But, I'm sure a decent mgr. would have gotten more out of him.
  14. Sorry, but the Span for Verlander scenario is inane and pointless. To the point - no team would be foolish enough to offer a good pitcher for Span. It'll be a Matt Capps for Ramos bonanza redux. Is J.C. Romero still in the league? That's the kind of offer they'll get. See if you can luck out and get somebody potentially good for Parmalee. Maybe shop Willingham as terrific as he's been this year. But, there'll be no decent offers for Morneau and certainly none for Span.
