Red Wings at IronPigs 3 game Redux: Part I: Alex Meyer.

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ----   I had the opportunity to watch the Rochester Red Wings' last 3 games (the double header last night and this afternoon's game) in my back yard against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs over the weekend. My list of must dos were to see whether Alex Meyer was as good as he was this Spring, in real game situations and to see what Eduardo Nunez was all about. Happily to say, that I have done that and more and I am ready to share.   Speaking about

Why I Always Come Back

It hasn't been easy being a Twins fan the last few years (though if you're committed enough to the team to find my little corner of the blogosphere, I hardly need tell you that). It's been even less easy to be a positive Twins blogger, to dedicate time and energy to finding the silver linings in a team that often looks outmatched in almost every facet of the game. My writing life would be easier, and probably more pleasant, if I could just sign off from the blog, let it wither and dry up like th

Twins Game Attendance: The Honeymoon is Over

PREVIOUS http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files/2014/04/mlb-oakland-athletics-minnesota-twins.jpg The Twins were 3-3 heading into opening day at Target Field, which frankly seemed a bit surprising considering the way they started the season. There seemed to be a faint hint of optimism about the team.   Could Chris Colabello could give us the “feel good” story of the season? Is Jason Kubel back? Would Jason Bartlett‘s injury spare us from having to witness his flailing attempts to h

I'm starting a new division.

This will make things interesting for the bad teams and puts something in front of them that they have a reasonable chance of achieving. If your record gets too good you get relegated to a major league division and replaced with the next worst team.   MLB "AAAA" Division Standings Team Wins Losses GB Diamondbacks 3 8 0 Astros 3 6 1 Twins 3

For the first time in a long time we have a full week of Twins baseball to talk about on the podcast. We talk about Ron Gardenhire's 1000th managerial win, a couple of disabled list moves that brought both Chris Herrmann and Darin Mastroianni back to the Twins, and pontificate on what early season attendance numbers mean for the club going forward. You can download the new Talk to Contact (@TalkToContact) episode via iTunes or by clicking here. http://puckettspond.com/files/2014/04/glen-perkins-

FREE tickets SWEET tickets for 4/8 noon game (Sec 11)

I have 3 extra tickets in SECTION 11, ROW 6 for Wednesday's 12PM (4/8) game Vs. the A's.   I'm a 30 yr old farmer from SD and my other farming buddies backed out because they said they had to haul corn to the ethanol plant. Boo! Anyway, I don't understand Craig's list, I read Twins Daily, and thought this would be a cool place to give them away. Yes, I said give them away. I have no desire to sell them.   They are free. As long as you can deal with me being an A's/Twins fan and enjoy a loud, b

Twins Minor League Report (4/8): May Has A Day

Weather has been a factor in the early part of the minor league schedule. Rochester was forced to play two seven-inning games on Tuesday because of weather issues on Monday. The Miracle had some weather issues of their own on Tuesday as their game got called early in the day.   For the coming weeks, it likely means there will be plenty of doubleheader action in the Twins system. The games have to get played but it has been a long winter in different parts of the country and it could take awhile

Meet the Kernels Catchers

The Cedar Rapids Kernels opened their 2014 season with a split of their four-game series with the Clinton Lumber Kings. The weather over the weekend was tolerable, with highs in the mid 50s to around 60 degrees, but Thursday’s Opening Night was far from delightful, with temperatures in the 30s and occasional rain. On Friday, the weather forced the season’s first postponement.   On Monday, the team boarded their bus for their first road trip. They’ll play six games in Michigan before retur

$15 Million vs $505k

7 days into the Minnesota Twins 2014 season is fun to look at. 4.3% of the games are done, and it has an interesting vibe to start the season. If I were to tell you:   Joe Mauer 7k's, 0 RBI, .250 Avg Brian Dozier is batting .143 10K's Arcia/Willingham injured   The Minnesota Twins would be 3rd in the Majors in Runs scored???   If I gave you those same stats and you added in the fact that our pitching staff has a 6.46 ERA, and going into the beginning of the season our biggest opportunity was

2014 Prospect list

Here is my updated prospect list given the recent trade, releases, and injuries. This will be the last time Josmil Pinto appears on my prospect list. In two years he has moved from 50 to 5. This is yet another justification for building out long prospect lists like this.   1. Byron Buxton 2. Miguel Sano 3. Alex Meyer 4. Kohl Stewart 5. Josmil Pinto 6. J.O. Berrios 7. Eddie Rosario 8. Jorge Polanco 9. Stephen Gonsalves 10. Max Kepler 11. Trevor May 12. Lewis Thorpe 13. Adam Walker 14

Monday Morning Madness

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed!   OHHHHH man, the Madness has returned. Normally, a return of my madness would be concerning, but in this case, it's a good thing. Every Monday I'll recap the Twins' weekend series and throw in some silly stuff at the end for the kids. Come for the analysis, stay for some muted chuckles. Let's go!   Weekend Recap   Hey cool, the Twins looked pretty good this weekend. After dropping two of three to a ratty White Sox team, they won two of three ag
