His last name was originally “Perzanowski”, and he is a cousin of former Twins pitcher Stan Perzanowski. He was born in Paterson, New Jersey and went to high school in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. He attended Michigan State and was signed by the Cubs as a free agent in 1958. He was a starter his first couple
Three years ago, the Twins were in an ideal position. The organization was proud to be opening Target Field on a beautiful day in downtown Minneapolis. Minnesota would be on their way to 94 wins, the most for the franchise since the 2006 season. It would be a memorable season for Twins Territory but there were some problems starting to bubble under the surface. The dreaded Yankees were again waiting for the Twins in the first round. It would be another quick exit from the postseason but things

Originally posted at What Will Opening Day Be Like? | Troy's Twins Dugout Hello Twins fans and it's another season upon us! tomorrow, some of you fans and players alike will be braving the cold at Target Field. I wonder if they will postpone the game because the weather forecast is expected to be in the 30's with windchills in the 20's. Wel, to tell you the truth, it doesn't feel like baseball weather here in Minnesota. Although Target Field is cleared of snow, there's still snow on the ground
Just for fun, I've gathered up my looking glass, my Ouija board, my Magic 8 ball, and put together a sneak peek into April and May. As I've felt with nearly everything I've predicted for the Twins in the last two years, I hope to heck I'm wrong. Be curious to see what you all think: April Pitching: Starting pitching will be borderline atrocious, sucking any possible enthusiasm from the casual fan base. Worley’s WHIP will be well above 1.60 and Pelfry will be alternately marginally effective
The Twins take the field tomorrow for the first time in 2013's regular season. It'd be an awful lot easier to find some hope for the year if the snow wasn't so stubborn in getting off of my lawn. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to record my impression of every Twins baseball game on this, my TwinsDaily blog. I'm taking a page from Stephen King and Stewart O'Nan, who documented a Red Sox season in their book Faithful. Red Sox won the World Series when they wrote that book. I'm not holding my br
Originally published in full with 56 pictures at The Tenth Inning Stretch ----- Like all good things that have an expiration date, the Twins' 2013 Spring Training had to end today. Tomorrow the games mean everything as the Twins are opening the season in a frigid Target Field against the Detroit Tigers. As in the last few years, I attended Spring Training (you can find all my 2013 Spring Training posts here) and took several pictures. This is pretty much my photo diary without comment
As I sit here getting myself ready to celebrate Easter, thinking of miracles (Easter is, of course, a time to celebrate the central miracle of my faith), I find my mind turning to the upcoming MLB season. What miracles can we hope to see this year? What dreams do we have for the coming season? What needs to happen for us, at the end of the year, to know that something wonderful and unexpected has happened? Here are the miracles I’m hoping for this year: The miracle of Mauer and

He was born in Oelwein, Iowa, but attended high school in San Diego. He signed with the Twins as a free agent in 1965. He both started and relieved in the minors. He did not look like anything special in his first couple of years, but in 1967, used exclusively out of the bullpen, he went 5-2, 1.32 in 41 innings in Class A Orlando.

He was born in Orlando, but went to high school in Rancho Bernardo, California. He was drafted in the first round by the Mets in 1980. He did not hit much in his early minor league years, but attracted attention in 1984 when he hit .281 with 20 homers for AA Jackson. That got him a September call-up, in which he went 1-for-10. He ba
I remember Sunday, April 5, 1992 very well. I was more than somewhat aware that the Twins' Opener was the next day. I had been a huge Twins fan since I was like four-years-old. By 1991, I was nine and I had started collecting baseball cards, going to the occasional game and I was about to start a tradition of skipping school on Opening Day. Well, not really skipping school. You can't really skip school in 3rd grade. However, my devious plan was to fake being sick, in order to stay home and

Born and raised in Elkton, Virginia, Shifflett signed with Washington as a free agent in 1955. He pitched very well in the low minors, and in 1957 was jumped from Class A to the majors for a few weeks from late April through early May. He wasn't ready, posting a 10.12 ERA in eight innings (six games), but had a good year at Class A Charlotte. Shifflett was back i
