5 Best Suitors in Byron Buxton Trade Rumors
rdehring replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am hopeful that all the 'rumors' around Buxton's willingness to waive his no-trade clause are hot air. I remain confident that Buxton will be the Twins centerfielder in 2026 and years after. I also believe that in his heart he wants to be a Twin for life. He likely wants to see the Twins make at least one smart trade, say Larnach, plus, for a reliever. Should they then sign a couple more guys, say a first baseman and another solid reliever, for $10-15M and the Twins could have a nice 2026. That's assuming the new coaching staff gets more out of several very good young players who didn't deliver much last year. [Edit: want to add one more comment, if the Twins do trade Buxton they should also go full rebuild and trade both Pablo and Ryan. They must get at least two top 100 prospects (plus another low level prospect) in each trade with one from each trade ready to join the Twins at some point in 2026.] -
Expecting that the most important activity for the Twins at next week's winter meetings is that their ownership situation should be finalized. Shouldn't it? Perhaps when we know who the new partners are we may have a better idea of what direction this team will be headed.

Very interesting report, Nick. When they added the 40-man guys the other day I took a look at the roster. Was pleasantly surprised when looking at the pitchers that there weren't any of the 19 who were guys who clearly didn't belong. The only problem I also noted was that 19 was a couple pitchers too few. With the winter meetings ahead, will be interesting seeing how many of the seven you mentioned are with the Twins come the opening of spring training. If it is most, booooo! Like others, I see a couple who have a reason to stick. But at least five of those guys should be long gone. There area a couple not mentioned who should also be moved. Hopefully, for something of value in return. Did anyone else notice yesterday's trade of Sonny Gray to Boston? Guess that takes one landing spot away for a potential Ryan trade. Or does it? Must admit it didn't seem like a top return for the Cards. Is Gray viewed as being on the back end of his career?

Taking Stock of Minnesota Twins' 2024 Draft Class
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Great report, Cody. Thanks. My one question is whether there were others that merit discussion taken in the later rounds? Or is another report coming? A team does very well if they can get one solid or better starter out of every draft. Add another pick who is a solid player for at least six years along with a couple guys who get some playing time and you have a good draft. Sure looks like this draft has the makings of having at least two who will become very good makes it a plus draft, assuming that happens.- 22 replies

Add me to those above curious if there is any information, anywhere, about Canterino? Seems to me they still would like to see Prielipp as a starter. Doesn't mean he can't be stretched out to 3+ innings next spring, then brought up for the Twins Pen either to start the season or soon thereafter. Should he be used as an opener pitching 2-3 innings or a bulk guy pitching multiple innings, they should be able to get him in 40-50 games with 100+ innings. It would still be possible getting him into the starting rotation in the future. Would also like to comment on the references to Prielipp's numbers last year. If I recall, a lot of his games were dominant for a couple three innings, then he gave up X runs in the fourth or fifth as he was being stretched out. That would indicate the best return from him in 2026 may be out of the pen. As for Raya? Just don't know what to expect.

I believe I saw somewhere today that the roster is set for the draft as of today. Hopefully, that is wrong. Does anyone know for certain?

Is it possible Falvey tendered Larnach just to p..... a lot of us off? Considering keeping Larnach doesn't make sense to a lot of us, I have to believe Falvey believes there is a market for Larnach and he will be able to include him in a trade either over the winter or next summer. He must believe that his top prospects, GG, EmRod and Jenkins will need a spot to play come summer. That can only come by replacing at least one of Larnach and Wallner, likely both. There is no other answer that makes any sense. Is there?

Considering they offered a contract to Larnach doesn't mean he will be with the team come March. The bigger issue to me is that they didn't remove anyone from their 40-man which means they will not be able to make a pick in the Rule 5. That must mean of all the players eligible to be picked, they didn't believe any of them are better than all the players on their current roster. Just because every once in awhile someone hits big on a player such as Santana or that guy with the White Sox last year, doesn't mean that caliber player is out there this year. Considering they would have drafted high this year, it is surprising to me.

Thats why I included the language about their possibly needing to add a prospect to get that reliever.

Twins Add Catching Depth with Early Offseason Swap
rdehring replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Where did you see that? Just checked the Twins website and Keirsey is still listed. This deal brought the Orioles 40-man down to 39. Seems they are doing a better job of cleaning up their roster than the Twins. -
Twins Add Catching Depth with Early Offseason Swap
rdehring replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
See he is on the 40-man roster. Does that confirm he is the leading candidate to back up Jeffers? In a related question, any information on who will be removed from the 40-man as they are now at 41? And how will player X be removed? -
Agree with much of what you are saying, mike. Although you threw me a curve when talking about your four outfielders. Kept thinking the Twins don't have an outfielder with a last name of Walker. Assume you mean Jenkins? My disagreement stems from so many of you claiming that Roden is mediocre or worse. If you look at his minor league stats and claim he is mediocre, then all three of the kids you would like to see are also likely to be mediocre. Let's not throw him under the bus after what, 100 big league at bats with a trade in the middle of them.

Should be an interesting day over at Target Field. Personally, I believe Larnach has value. Although I would be shocked if he is on their opening day roster, I remain hopeful that they keep him today so they can trade him over the next few months. Would love seeing Larnach moved for a solid reliever with a few years experience, even if the Twins need to add a prospect to get the right guy. As for opening a spot on the roster so they can make a Rule 5 pick, there are several others that could be waived. Top of my list is Julien. Unlike you, the player we saw the last two years is the player he is and to me that has zero value.

I was looking at this a bit different. Would replace Keaschall with Larnach/Wallner. Don't believe Keaschall should be traded for anything. Rather, build the next team around him. In his place I see the most likely to be traded some combination of Larnach and/or Wallner. With the very good corner outfielders on the verge, one of this duo needs to be gone come February. Maybe both?

Great read, Nick. Thanks. Personally, I would take a good bat versus a great bat. That's assuming the player is both young and capable of playing a good first base or catcher. Would then want another player tossed in, say a solid young relief pitcher with a year or two experience. The biggest question to this trade would be if the Twins use a substantial part of the savings to get another good player from the free agent market.
-
Love this comment, TopGunn. Count me with those hoping that the pitcher the Twins trade is Ryan. My dream return is a young reliever with a year or two big league experience. Someone who can be expected to become similar to Varland or Jax. Someone who will be a late inning option for the Twins in 2026. Add a top prospect with some big league experience who is a first baseman. A player who can be expected to start for the Twins in 2026. Throw in a top 5 prospect who is a starting pitcher a bit further away, say Hi-A. Should be a team needing one more really good starting pitcher to compete for it all in 2026 and the Twins should be able to get a King's ransom. Hopefully, Falvey will go get it.

Timely piece with the draft a few weeks away. Have a question and comment. I assume the Twins will be drafting high. Do we know what their first pick is? You indicated that they "still have room on their 40-man roster." Just checked to confirm, but their 40 man roster has 40 players on it. So it is full. Like most of us, I can see several outfielders who could be moved to open a spot. Is there any specific date they need to do that to be eligible to make a pick in the draft? Or can it be done the night before the draft?

Another day, another piece talking about the "unclear ownership direction." Yes, it is unclear to us fans and even all those reporters with all their inside information. But we don't know that it is unclear to Falvey and the front office. For all we know, he may have specific instructions, including payroll, on what his options are for the 2026 Twins. Should that be true, like all of you I have no idea, his ambiguous comments would be a smart way of entering an off-season of wheeling and dealing. What I do know is by the second week of February we all will know what the spring training roster will be. I remain hopeful that it will be a team who will provide exciting baseball at Target Field in 2026.
-
After reading your piece, Nick, and Seth's report went and looked at the Twins 40-man roster. Considering the four pitchers just added can't be waived prior to spring training, there really aren't any obvious pitchers to be cut to make room for new relievers. Does that mean the entire bullpen will be coming from this group? Doubt that. Expect they will carry more than 19 pitchers, so likely cuts will be from their 10 outfielders. Maybe an outfielder or two will be traded for a solid reliever. There are also a few infielders who are at risk, however, with only 8 infielders on the roster those players would need to be replaced by another infielder.

As I continue reading multiple reports every day, one thing is becoming clear. Most of the writers here are putting way to much emphasis on every word Falvey is saying. Spring training is a long way off. There will be lots of changes to the Twins roster between today and then. None of us have a clue what those changes will be. To some extent, neither does Falvey.
-
Excited reading your opinion of where Prielipp will start the season. I remain hopeful that the Twins view him as a starter. At least long-term. Considering how few innings he has pitched together with the current state of the Twins pen it makes a lot of sense to look at him as a bullpen option in 2026. Could see him being stretched out so he could go up to three innings. That would allow them to use him as a bulk reliever, two or three inning opener or any other role. Should your projection that he be their closer happen, starting in the future could be off the table. How soon Gonzalez joins the Twins is somewhat related to how soon they move on from Larnach and/or Wallner. Same for Jenkins.

Am guessing the Twins would draft very high in the Rule 5. So I am assuming there will be a few players leaving the roster between now and whenever that open spot is needed. Who knows, maybe there is a trade about to happen with someone like Larnach/Wallner being exchanged for a solid relief pitcher. Most disappointing part of your entire report to me, Seth, was that they didn't need to protect DeAndrade or Sabato. Was excited when they signed DeAndrade. Just goes to prove that when signing 16 year olds one never knows what to expect.

No nothing about either the guy coming from Tampa Bay or the guy leaving the organization. What I like is that their first move is for a bullpen arm. Expect there will be many more trades for bullpen arms over the coming months. Hopefully, at least one is for someone capable of pitching the 8th or 9th innings. Should they make four or five trades like this, hopefully, one will be a pleasant surprise and another will be a solid middle innings guy. Bullpen needs a lot of work. This is step one.

Always find it enjoyable reading about the AFL and how our Twins prospects fare. Thanks for keeping us informed this year, Steve. It is appreciated. A lot by some of us. Exciting seeing the week Winokur had as the season ended. Assume he was facing top pitching in the playoffs when he did very well. Don't know what to think of Amick. Guess we will have to wait and see how he performs in 2026. Boadas was the surprise of the fall. At least to me. Should be exciting watching him next spring to see if what we just saw can be who he is. As for the rest of the Twins pitchers? Other than Seachrist, it hurt reading their numbers.
