Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Month - July 2022
Game7-91 replied to David Youngs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Hoping these guys can form the next wave of productive MLB pitchers. Long starts are a rarity at the Low-A level and Raya is no exception. All four of his starts in July were five innings or less and his season-long is six innings. Actually sounds a lot like certain SP's at ML level.- 12 replies

Assessing the Twins Trade for Jorge Lopez
Game7-91 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is a good-faith effort on part of FO to improve the rancid performance of the BP. It's a gamble, but so are all trades. The trade value for effective relievers is high. Twins were willing to pay a price in prospects, for controlled expense for 2.25 seasons. For their model of roster mgmt, this is a good fit, and good trade. Now just hope this guy performs as well as the #'s indicate.- 16 replies

Twins Acquire Tyler Mahle from Reds
Game7-91 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Ted and TD gets cited in MLBTR for breaking the Twins part of the deal, in the same sentence as Jon Heyman! Way to go TD and Ted! 2:50pm: The teams have agreed to a trade sending Mahle to the Twins, tweets Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Ted Schwerzler of TwinsDaily reports that Minnesota is sending is sending infield prospects Spencer Steer and Christian Encarnacion-Strand to the Reds, as well as lefty Steven Hajjar (Twitter link). -
Twins Tidbit: Jose Miranda is a Top Rookie Slugger
Game7-91 replied to TwinsData's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Are 'ya feelin vindicated today? You should, you called it? ?.... ...8th innings 2 outs, 2 down , 2 on, opposite field....thing of beauty......10th inning, pull the tying 1b to LF. So where do they pitch Miranda now, he can pull, go the other way, gap power, or park it. Sounds like the whole hit package. -
Have the Twins Seen the End of Miguel Sano?
Game7-91 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Memories of Sano: The slam in Clev. Big smiles. The dude with the broken leg and gunshots in DR. Damning response to sexual harrassment allegations. Sliced foot on the stage in DR. Is he back this year? Probably not. Definitely not next, unless on minor league deal. Wherever he lands, good luck. He had a few moments here, but just a few.- 37 replies

Week in Review: Between Rock Bottom and a Hard Place
Game7-91 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It does seem that was a missed opportunity. But in Falvines defense, there was much doubt abt Rodon's ability to pitch 150 effective innings...doubters including me were wrong. Amidst the gloom, the blazing bright supernova right now is watching Miranda emerge. As he gains rep's, he could be All-Star caliber. Hoping the apparent injury curse someone has hexed upon our best and brightest prospect list will miss JM. Guys like him will make Aug/Sep tolerable, and hopeful, even if the W-L ratio tanks. -

Trade Rumor: Could the Twins be a suitor for Carlos Rodon?
Game7-91 replied to cHawk's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I believe this to be mostly true. The variable is whether or not comparatively similar pitching quality is gettable for the Twins. I could see a scenario where Rodon makes the most sense in terms of prospects traded and projected impact on wins. I just think a Rodon-like quy is unlikely for Twins. -
Ace Wrigley, great to hear from you. I enjoy your posts but have missed seeing them. Your q's today are spot-on. Somebody here needs to do a hard interview with Falvinepohlad and get to the bottom of this drama. I vote for Ace to press the metal to the petal and force some answers. Some possible responses, fwiw: Q1: "Well, he wouldnt have crashed into the wall, because he WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN PLAYING CF. Here at Twinsland, we realize now our multimillion dollar investment in our #1 guy hasnt been managed well, and we are committted to developing his talent at 1 position only, because it really is just plain silly of us to expend a #1 pick on a guy we want to use in a utility role. " Q2: " Thank you, that's a great question. We have no comment at this time, because none of us here can really explain the Correa signing while also doing the Berrios-Rogers trades. Seemed like a great idea at the time, and besides, Scott Boras scares the living hell out of us. We do what he tells us." Q3: "You know, pitching coaches are all the same, they chew the same chaw, their belly fat flabs over the beltline, hat sizes are a size small, they belch and fart a lot, and at the end of the day, ones about as good as another."

The 12-pack of Grain Belt was a bridge too far for me.
-
Yep......to me the most surprising thing about that whole situation was that he was making $350K.....I'm not up on coaching staff salaries, but I was stunned the pitching coach was making such a comparatively small amount. I honestly thought the top pitching and hitting coaches would be in the upper six figures, even lower mil's.....I've never paid attention to that stuff, but man I was really surprised. I dont blame Wes Johnson for seeing a chance to double his income in one job change. These things keep circling back to a problem, and I know how much some here do not want to harp on the Twins not paying up, but the org overall does not want to pay to keep higher level talent, not only players, but also apparently coaching and development. This continues to be an ownership issue imho. If the org is all about developing talent internally, then it would seem the investing in cost of player development is done without question, and with the highest quality in mind at all levels of the system. In my mind that means finding, and hiring high level scouting and coaching personnel at all levels, supporting their work and rewarding their results with ultra-competetive pay and benefits. It's not 100M contracts here, even the small market teams should be able to make these types of investments. This is investing more than just another operational expense. Does anyone know how the Twins compare to other org's in committing investments to developmental costs up and down the system? Would love to know if there is info out there abt how MLB org's spend and support the process, but I cannot find info. Either that, or buy players at MLB level. Are there other alternatives out there?

Like the Sano for Hill angle, that is really creative and makes sense. Whether Bos would do it? But certainly worth a shot. Reality is to take on another 7M salary as in Thor's more than likely means having to lose salary elsewhere, and Sano's is the only one Twins could realistically move, unless we want to open up the trade Correa thread again, but something tells me we have all pretty much beat the horse dead. As others have intimidated here, I would rather roll into Aug/Sep with Smeltzer taking on LH pen duties, low-leverage to start and see how it goes. This seems preferable to trading more prospects for someone like Moore, who has found the magic elixer this season but who knows when the clock strikes midnight for him. I just think its actually less volatility with Smeltzer in that role. And, to be honest, a big part of the BP problem trickles down from what is shaping up as possibly the worst trade of the Falvine era. I would rather try to patch that self-inflicted wound with internal options instead of possibly losing even more in that trade by moving additional prospects. Love also the catchers named by Nick. Makes perfect sense, and any of those should be eminently gettable. Overall, this is a solid plan, I only question taking on the additional salary without related salary dump, for as we all know, this is still Twins territory.

Which Twins Regular is More Untouchable?
Game7-91 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lopez would come w/ 2 full arb seasons, UFA end of 2024. For me the question would be whether or not he's open to an extension.....assuming Twins would not compete with ufa bidding if he made it that far. He would solidify mid rotation, age 26 coming into prime, some shoulder issues prior to trade to Miami but no signs of further injury. Been around awhile fir 26....was signed by Seattle internationally 2012 age 16. Youre right, it may be worth a gamble off the ML roster, but I would hope they would secure him for something longer than 2 yrs (which would presumably be less than 2 if he doesn't extend, as Twins would probably flip him sometime in '24).- 32 replies

Which Twins Regular is More Untouchable?
Game7-91 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The consensus seems to be the Twins need to develop talent in-house, and are not going to pay market rates for substantial FA's. If that's true, then it makes no sense to move a proven ML capable high-offense guy with 5-6 yrs of control, who the org has just sunk 5 years of development costs into, for 1.5 yrs of control for a #2'ish SP. If the team is built on developing talent internally, then the value lies in the ROI on that development in ML years 1-5. If they excel, they will be moved in year 5. I think Twins will not be moving either/or.- 32 replies

Are the Twins MLB’s Worst Baserunning Team?
Game7-91 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins the worst? Dont know. They are certainly bad. Is it org philosophy abt generating runs, coaching staff not prioritizing fundamental skills, players not focusing, all of the above? Dont know, but they are hurting themselves. Runs score 90' at a time. I wish they would take gaining that real estate with the commitment it deserves at MLB level, but it's hard to see that commitment with this team. 3 new pitchers arent going to fix that part.- 19 replies

CWS have a definite scheduling advantage, but that might not mean much when they have shown an ability to lose any game, to any team, on any night, for no reason other than ineptitude. Who wins ALC? I have no idea. Might be better put: In the next 10 weeks which teams will lose the most otherwise winnable games? The one with the lowest number wins.

Get to Know Twins Draft Pick C.J. Culpepper

Not really surprised by any of the rankings here. I guess we can say defense is not the Twins' strength.
