  1. A few areas the powers-that-be may wish to improve next season: Better pitching, Better hitting, Better fielding Better baserunning Better coaching, Better managing, Better trading, Better FA signings, Better drafting, Better development, All of which =a
  2. "As a team, the Saints were just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base." Call these guys up, they'll fit right in.....
  3. "It’s hard to imagine that he (CC) won’t stay here when he fits in so well, on the field and off." I hope not. He was MIA until the season was a roaring dumpster fire. The Sept stat padding cant hide the fact he has not carried the team at any point this season. I would rather commit his salary elsewhere, and see who among Lewis or Lee can lay claim to SS.
  4. It will add an interesting twist to the draft. Thanks for sim link, I tried it, on 12th try Twins popped up 3rd, otherwise were in the teens. Whether its 3 or 16, there will be talent available, can they choose wisely and develop said talent is the question. It sure looks like they hit on Lee. Please dont trade him for RP next year.......
  5. Good summary Nick. I too hope they will bring up some of the prospects/suspects, it's glorified spring training the rest of the way, but lets see who wants to play in 23.
  6. I would add the decision to run the offense through Buck. I love Buck, but building offensive identity around him is just bizarre. Next year's base assumption should be that Buck is good for 80 relatively healthy games. If he gets more its gravy. But dont build out from a faulty assumption. And if they want Buck hitting 25-30 HR's, whats he doing in leadoff? 28 HR's turned into 51 RBI's, what waste to the max. They need to re-envision the offensive identity entirely. As others have pointed out this offense is grossly inefficient, and needs different structure, different strategy, and probably an infusion of different skills.
  7. Amen to that. See Berrios, Jose. So in answer to the question in the article's title: He came to Minnesota.
  8. Good point that can be said of the entire outfield. Larnach's role is hard to separate from the entirety of the outfield mess. It should not be assumed that Larnach, Buxton, Kepler, or Kiriloff are going to provide any certain # of games. Until they prove they can stay healthy for six consecutive months without a disabling injury, the OF will remain in flux. Larnach should be given a chance, but not guaranteed a starting role, or, for that matter, a spot on the 26. Ditto for Kiriloff, whether they see him at 1B or OF, or both. And Buck is what he is at this point-they need a platoon plan for CF. Would that be a trade or FA? Celestino is still developing...future Aaron Hicks, or Willie Norwood? Kepler is lost, they will bring him in because they have to, but he cant be counted on for productivity or health. Twins are in a very tough spot with their OF for 2023. It's a logjam of uncertainty.
  9. Looks like they made that decision today, Dobbie is off the 40-man, imagine he will be back in Twins minor league system but you never know, cant imagine Twins would be disappointed if someone else took the contract.
  10. A master class tonight in how to take an useless exhibition game, create some brief "nono" excitement within a seeming blowout, and somehow, someway, figure out how to blow the nono and allow one of the worst teams in mlb to bring the tying run to the ondeck circle after starting the 9th with a 6-0 lead. I'm with you on this one Chief, its a sad if not predictable state of affairs with our Twins right now.
  11. He's probably #1 Twins prospect, and should start 2023 in Wichita, then move to St Paul in a month if he does well. Put him at 3B, spend the winter teaching Miranda how to field 1B, bring in a stopgap SS to make way for Lewis next year. By 2024 infield is Miranda/Arraez platoon 1B/DH, unknown 2B, Lewis SS, Lee 3B, Gordon utility. Or move Gordon to 2B and sign a utility guy. Cant imagine they will pay Polanco 10M in 2024, trade or buyout next year with him.
  12. A visual metaphor for the 2022 season:
  13. I would say they are trying, the last 2 nights they didnt fold after getting behind. Admittedly, Clev hasnt exactly put the foot on the throat with the lead either. Maybe its a matter of who plays less worse? What can be said when the starting OF in the stretch run is Garlick, Cave, and Gordon? Too many AAAA guys, too much under-performance from ML guys, too many injuries....theyre still trying, but theyre just not good enough, The biggest highlight of Sep will end up being Arraez breaking up the no-no....clutch! I had them finishing 4th when season started. From that perspective, they have over-achieved. Its just not saying much given the division.
  14. This and 0-18 should be a 10 alarm raging fire call-to- action at the top of Twins' org chart. Names and seasons change, and results are consistent beyond random variance. They need a different plan. The "little engine that could" type of roster construction has failed, over and over, against the big boys. Ergo, it doesnt work. This should be a stick-head-in-sand embarrassment for all involved. Its pathetic.
  15. Pix of the 2023 base. 3" square differential, 99" more total area..... I am skeptical the change will have a significant impact on steal attempts. The resistance to steal attempts seems more strategic/philosophical for most mgrs. I dont care for it myself, I think steal attempts are more entertaining and just as strategic, if not more so, than waiting on power, so if it does end up generating more steals, I'd be good with it. Just have my doubts that this alone will do it.
  16. Was it only a year ago when we felt catcher was a position of strength? Now, not so much. But FO made this committment to Jeffers, I think they will give him every chance to secure the job in 2023. They'll bring in somebody as back-up and hope it doesnt implode.
  17. Yes indeed. But let's face it, this is all relative. From the Yankees perspective, seeing the Twins on the schedule is like early Christmas twice a year, tradition with a big T. Somebody's happy with this state of things, its just not us.
  18. Start with one please. Set the SP bar at Berrios-esque level, one guy who can be effective over time, pitch every fifth day, doesnt have to compete for the Cy Young, but can anchor the staff and on occasion rises to the stopper type guy we seem to not be able to find. Then develop a 2nd a 3rd who can manage mid-rotation, doesnt have to be lights out, just give the team a chance on most days. And manage to keep filling the pitching roster as the annual churn happens. Because it seems pretty clear the Twins are not going to pay market rates as guys near or achieve FA status. So this very very fine needle they have to thread (and that is not Falvey's fault, but it sure does restrict his abilities), is limiting......but as Nick points out, the best way to thread that needle is to have a development program in constant state of preparing the next cycle, and knowing which of those prospects to move in trade or release, and which to give a shot at MLB level. Falvey regime results to-date are a mixed bag, at best.
  19. For those of us old enough to remember a Mn born and bred rookie making his MLB debut in Yankee stadium. Sending these positive vibes Louie Varlands way:
  20. Great story, good luck Mr Varland....first MLB win in Yankee Stadium! That will be a nice memory! Go get it......
