  1. Haley seems to be around as insurance for blowouts. The Twins are losing 10-0 in the 5th? Let Haley save the rest of the 'pen from unnecessary duties. His role on the team is not crucial, but every team needs a guy like that. The Twins are sticking with Haley for now in that role because they are evaluating the rest of the guys. It appears Haley's been evaluated and since he's on the 40-man the team is fine with letting him be "that guy", for now. I'm not thrilled, but not many fans are thrilled with their team's mop-up man.
  2. A lot of hand-wringing here about trading young prospects. Not here. I say if the Twins are in the race, go for it. Remember, in 1987: "We were just trying to get organized to compete a few years down the road, and ended up winning the whole damn thing". I'm not saying trade Buxton for Bronson Arroyo or anything. But I do think that the Twins should go right ahead and make a move for a starting pitcher IF they are in the race at the break. Why not? Go for it.
  3. The Twins are on the road, which means they've got a legit chance to take this series! Then again, these are the red hot Orioles and I'm deeply concerned, as all Twins fans are. We're still wounded from last year and waiting for the other shoe to drop. Not too thrilled about Gibby being back, same as the rest of you. Maybe he'll be angry out there and pitch with a chip on his shoulder?
  4. I think Molitor has a huge impact on slowing the development of this young team. He's a detriment to the squad overall. A box of crackers has more personality and brains. He's received a free pass from ownership and I am disappointed he's the manager during this development window.
  5. I think it was indeed Torii. I checked Torii's twitter account and he's used that phrase before. Also, the Twins reddit thread also said it was Hunter on the call. My bad!
  6. Wasn't that LaTroy Hawkins who made that call?
  7. Twins runs scored the past 6 games: 1 - W 4 - W 3 - L 3 - L 1 - L 2 - W That's an average of less than 2.5 runs per game over the past week. Yuck. On the bright side, the Twins have somehow managed to win half of these games! Woah! Minnesota's in desperate need of one of those famous early-season 6 run innings tonight. Let's warm up those bats, gang!
  8. Kepler's still got kinks to work out, and he's not going to be a complete hitter unless the Twins keep rolling him out there against all comers. Same for Vargas, Buxton, Polanco, and Rosario. Those guys should be in every game...unless the Twins think some of them aren't in the future plans. As LENIII points out, Grossman grounded into a DP on a 2-0 fastball down the heart of the plate to kill the late rally. He's been riding the pine lately and should continue to do so. Bad defense and bad offense from him. Twins runs scored in each of the past 5 games: 1 W 4 W 3 L 3 L 1 L (probably)
  9. I'd like to see the Twins call up some of the young bullpen arms also. They've washed their hands of Tonkin and DanSan already, I'd like to see some more housecleaning. I was hoping Gibson would stay down longer, it's kind of depressing to think he's probably coming back, pronto. I like Pressley, Kinzler, and Duffey in the 'pen. The rest I'd be happy to trade for minor-league counterparts, but I'm guessing that's not in the plans. We'll be lucky to see Chargois and Burdi playing regularly this season, the best we can hope for is a September cup of coffee for them at this rate. The bats seem to have slowed down over the past week, averaging 3 runs per game since last Friday. This team is gonna need to score runs in a big way if they are to finish above .500.
  10. I think the Twins had to get rid of Nolasco because he pretty clearly didn't enjoy playing for the team. Just not a happy camper in Minneapolis. As for Meyer, I think the Twins were frustrated with his development and weren't interested in dealing with another complicated project. They had enough on their hands and found a taker. Neither Nolasco or Meyer will win the Cy Young this year. Or next. There are "bad trades" and then there are trades that are minorly unbalanced. My guess is that the trade is pretty meaningless overall for both teams in the end.
  11. Hughes and Santiago are quickly starting to settle into last year's stats. To be honest, I'm more worried about Santiago than Hughes at this point. He's got a lotta Tommy Milone in him and we all know how that goes. We've got a true ace in Santana, a nice looking rookie in Berrios. Here's hoping the Twins find someone in the system to step up here and join them!
  12. Pretty big "either / or" situation there! Inquiring minds want to know!
  13. LOL @ Latroy calling Dick Bremer "Richard", a la TK.
  14. Castro's had a few of those squibbers this year! We'll take it!
  15. Rough start for Hawkins there out of the gate. Shake it off, LaTroy!
  16. No kidding! We've played a very division-heavy schedule this year so far. While I enjoy watching the Twins play Chicago and KC, I'm not too excited when I see Cleveland and Detroit on the schedule. This is the Twins first inter-league match of the season, here's hoping we can hit tonight!
  17. Off day tomorrow, right? Let's use some of those "mop-up guys" today and see if they have any better luck. No reason to save the 'pen, except Kintzler.
  18. Looks like it's midnight and Santiago's fancy carriage has turned back into the pumpkin we knew it was.
  19. His best MLB appearance - a gem! Definition of a very, very good start. I saw him kind of lose it for a brief moment when he walked a few guys and threw that wild pitch (same inning). Glad he could stop the bleeding there and re-focus. VERY HAPPY!
