what is impressive was the ability of the Twins to keep al but one of those pitchers to an average of 5 1/3 innings a start.

Front Page: The Hazy Future of Fernando Romero
Tomj14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No chance they can go into next year with an injury prone Pineda, two rookies and a 5th starter that the fans have been begging to be moved to the pen basically most of the year. I expect there to be rumors for Cole, but they will be out bid on him. There will be talk for Bumgarner but again will not come to fruition. My thoughts are they will end up with Wheeler. -
Front Page: The Hazy Future of Fernando Romero
Tomj14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Imagine three years ago what the Twins could have gotten for a Romero, Gonzo, Jay and Stewart package. Hence why I am almost always for trading prospects for proven players. At this point, I find it hard for more than one minor league stater to be given a chance to start at the beginning of next year, no way they take a playoff team this year and try to run out two or three rookie starters and if they do it seems like a shuttle for one spot. Which mean Gonzo probably is done as a twin and Romero better figure out how to pitch out of the pen. -
If he means he gets votes in the bottom half the of the top I could see that.

You could say the "tie" was that he was still in the system after the July deadline? Because he isn't coming up if he was used to help the rotation and bullpen in a trade.

agree to disagree, I think Berrios, Gibson, Ordo, Pineda and I hate to say Perez, hold up against all but a couple of starting staffs in the majors as far a talent and for that matter success this year. You could be correct on the bullpen, but again 4 of those guys have been DFA'd. Now I am not willing to say they should be fired but I think the jury is still out. (they looked like magicians the first half and impostures the second)

I don't Arraez was told to bunt in that situation for a few reasons, number one it was a terrible attempt at a sacrifice, absolutely terrible (for a sacrifice), number two Moustakas had just moved position, and finally Morneau made it sound like that Arraez did that on his own. As far as having Harper start the 7th, I was perfectly fine that (hey that way he doesn't let an inherited runner score ) but after Yelich got on I thought he should have been taken out. Relief pitchers are going to have bad outings and I think it is on the manager and pitching coach to stop it before it gets out of hand or if the game isn't close decide to see the pitcher can work through it. Sadly for the last month or so it does seem like one relief pitcher is going to have a rough outing and the defense is going to make at least one sloppy play or error, and it is huge when the bats can make up for that, and it sucks and feels like the end of the season when they don't. OK, settle down. I wasn't calling out anybody to provide facts, I was saying I had zero facts to back up my observation, which was Sano seems to get pull happy when other players get hot and hit a bunch of homers, then that person cools off a bit and Sano "remembers" he doesn't have to pull everything and gets hot again. Which Riverbrian pointed out is the very nature of hot and cold streaks. and IMO his cold streaks seem to happen when somebody else has a hot homer streak, which may not be factual, it just seems that way.

Zero facts to back this up, but it seems when somebody else gets in the home run groove, he tends to slide back into the, I am going to pull ever pitch over the left field fence, then get he starts to get going again when he starts going with pitch.

Sano had a five game slump, and it sounds like he spent the whole game in the cage working, which to me is almost as important as the homer he hit. It does seem like something has clicked this year and I give credit to Cruz those two seem like they are pretty close. (from my 5000 ft view)

Front Page: Buxton’s Body and Cave’s Opportunity
Tomj14 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Cave seems like the type of player for a rebuilding club, cheap, not horrible and if he takes off, could be a great trade piece for that team. Playing the one way he is this year for the Twins pretty much is eliminating himself from the team in the future.- 39 replies

Sounds like people are saying take the best offense in major league history and do a complete rebuild, interesting at best. Since a bunch of the other part of that offense is free agents in just over a year from now. (Cron, Cruz, Gonzalez)

Front Page: What Happened to Eddie Rosario’s Defense?
Tomj14 replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
agreed, he seems to have no top speed right now (due to injury) and/or is afraid to go top speed and try to stop on the ankle. Having sprained my ankle multiple times getting up to speed usually isn't the problem, the problem is usually stopping or slowing down. From my non-medical eye he seems to be looping to the ball instead of taking the correct angle to cut it off and IMO that is sign of a injury not healed not a lazy or mental issue.- 71 replies

You could say keep them both, and go after one or more of Cole, Bumgarner, Wheeler, Hamels?

Front Page: 2019 Minnesota Twins Trade Deadline Recap
Tomj14 replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In general I was happy as well, but as I have been saying both of these moves probably could have been done weeks ago, sure it might have cost more but they would have been pitching for the Twins for longer. That was until one of the Twins main competition in the American League went out and got Greinke. I will say I believe like Verlander I don't believe the Twins had a chance at Greinke, but was disappointed they didn't get anybody to match that trade.- 93 replies

Front Page: Trade Deadline: What if the Twins Do Nothing?
Tomj14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No I wouldn't fire them before the season is over, but if they somehow miss the playoffs or don't win the division because the relief core is not adequate and that is an obvious reason for not winning the division. Then they are gone!- 441 replies

Front Page: Trade Deadline: What if the Twins Do Nothing?
Tomj14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO, if they do nothing they better not lose any of their prospects because there isn't room on the 40. You know kind of like they have with the minor league relief pitchers.- 441 replies

100% agree, maybe the Twins and/or Rocco figured out if your starters can't go more than 4 or 5, you must put a relief pitcher in that can give you at least 2 but maybe up to 4 innings to save your 1 inning guys, because even with an 8 man bullpen you don't have enough pitchers to go 1 inning at a time for 4 to 5 innings every day or almost every day. That seemed to work with Thorpe and Devin, now IMO relying on rookies to continue that is probably fools gold in the mid to long term but short term it could work.

it is weird that he was throwing 100, I was listening to the pregame on Sunday and the Twins minor league guy was saying he was back up to 97 which was a good thing, didn't sound like they were expecting 100? but that was what I took from the conversation. And I would like to have Graterol up pitching out of the pen.

Looking strictly at this deal, I think it is very good. Looking at the whole trade deadline it is very underwhelming, but they still have time. I think they could have made the same deal weeks ago as well.

and sadly Gibson was the only starting pitcher on both team to go 5 innings in the Yankees series, so moving him to the pen might be a little bit of a stretch as well.
