  1. I have zero interest in Hamilton unless it is to try and set the AAA stolen base record. I like Ozuna on a short deal if the Twins do indeed trade Rosario. If they don't trade Rosario, then I think signing somebody that has options left would be nice, unless that player is taking Cave's spot as the 4th outfielder.
  2. Remedy when the Berrios was starting with the Twins at age 22 and kicked butt, oh wait that didn't work out so well (that year), my bad.
  3. I only quoted this part, but this is one of the best things I have seen written on this side in my many years here. Cudos!
  4. "Out of this group, who do you trust the most to be in the rotation for the majority of the season?" The answer is Zero, None, Nada, Zilch. Only one of them has proven that he is even worth consideration for the 5th starting pitcher and that is Dodnak. I think Smeltzer and Thorpe should definitely be given a chance to prove they belong in the majors, but in no way being handed a starting spot. I am not sure what to think of Graterol he obviously has the best stuff, but hasn't really ever pitched enough innings in a season to say, hey lets give the 20/21 year old 30 starts in the majors.
  5. I love thier ages and potential and hope like heck their careers are awesome, but combined they have started 16 games in AA or higher, so hopefully they rip it up early in the year in the minors come up later to the bigs and blew up and maybe they are in the majors full time starting in 2021, that seems like best case to me. Now if they are on the Berrios path, it looks more like 2022 (which still is pretty darn good but doesn't really help in the near future when this window is wide open, and hopefully will still be in 2022)
  6. The "sarcasm" was Why can't they be the solution to rotation in 2020 and beyond? I used the word ace type in quotes to say that they were highly touted at one or some point in their minor league career, Mejia was a stretch to include but he did in my search of top Twins prospects make their top 10 one year. They all have failed, at least so far, and people are hoping this next group of Smeltzer, Thorpe and Dobnack are the solution to the 3 vacant starting positions (for 39 games at least) or at least hopeful of filling rosters starting roles in the future while never being touted as high as the other pitchers. Hopefully that clears up my point
  7. I didn't say ACE I said top of the rotation which my understanding is 2/3 and I said ceiling, 4 of the 5 were in the top 100 prospects in all of baseball at one time and 3 of 5 in the top 50. I Couldn't find Mejia anywhere but the other person said he also made a top 100 list. I
  8. umm, this site and all other prospects sites. Try a search and see how Gonzo made it up the top 100 lists, his floor was always back end rotation. Try to the same search for Dobnack, Smelzter and Thorpe. 2016 MLB Jay - 36th Gonzo - 86th 2017 MLB Romero - 71st Gonzo - 64th I can't find anywhere Dobnack, Smelzter and Thorpe even broke into the top 10 Twins prospects.
  9. Jay's ceiling was a top of the rotation guy and floor was a dominant reliever. Gonzo's ceiling was a #2 starter but more than likely 3/4, about the same for Meija. About the same projections as this next group of saviors. (and actually besides Graterol, this next group doesn't have the Romero/Jay hype)
  10. I am confused didn't the Twins have 5 "ace type" pitchers in the minor leagues just a few short years ago (2017 they were 5 of the Twins top 10 prospects). Romero, Gonzo, Jay, Stewart and Mejia. Why can't they be the solution to rotation in 2020 and beyond? </sarcasm>
  11. Berrios kept them in the game for 4 innings, less than half the game, Odo for 5 innings just barely over half of the game. But I agree with spycake, there is blame to be placed everywhere from the owner down to the players.
  12. I didn't forget about Pineda he is out for 39 games, which is a 1/4 of the season. They could be 12 -28 and out of it, or not. But the odds say they will be worse than better with 3 rookie pitchers.
  13. If nice is 7 base runners in 4 innings and a 5 innings start, then yes they got two nice starts. Basically both teams got the same results in those games.
  14. The Twins gave up 10 and 8 in the first two games and 5 in the third. I do agree there bats were not good, but expecting any team to score 11,9 and 6 to win is asking a lot.
  15. I don't believe that is true at all. If they signed his twin brother who was just as good as him from Atlanta to join him in the rotation people would be enthusiastic. I also think people are enthusiastic they brought him back. But this isn't about Odo, this is about filling 5 spots in the rotation plus back up plans when pitchers are needed and it this point the pitchers that should be part of the back up plan are slated to be part of the solution and people are upset and rightfully so. As it stand right now on 12/13/2019 the 2020 Twins starting rotation is Berrios, Odo, and 3 rookie pitchers and the back up plan for those are more minor league prospects for a team that won 101 games and its division. And that is frickin embarrassing.
  16. It seems impossible for the Twins to be in on so many players and get none, maybe Cruz could count as one.
  17. None of those are really risks, sure they are gambles, but if Cruz is old, it was for 1 year with a cheap buyout. Basically the same with Cron and Schoop without the buyouts. They got 3/4 of a year for Pineda, signing him again but for only 2 years isn't a risk, the risk might be only signing him for 2 because he blows up and leaves.
  18. You mean like all that parity they have in the NFL, NBA and NHL? There has been more different champions in MLB than any other sport (almost combined)
  19. I am good with signing Madbum, Ryu or trading for another starter, and then letting Dobnak fill in for Pineda until he is back. With the others on the plane back and forth when needed.
  20. So overpaying this year will cost us an opportunity down the road? Couldn't you say that every year? When is that statement not True? Really with this philosophy the Twins should never pay more than Arb salaries or league minimum salaries for anybody. The best way to keep the minor leagues loaded with talent is to trade talent prior to them becoming unrestricted free agents. The Twins shouldn't be trying to sign Berrios to a long term deal they should be looking to trade him after this season or in the middle of the next, he would return a ton of prospects. The same with Buxton. Sano and Rosario should be traded this year and replaced with rookies (Kriloff, Rooker, Larnach), when the rookies (and they will be stars Fo Sure) get close to being unrestricted you trade them and so on. Imagine all of the Cash the Twins would save and the unbelievable amount of payroll flexibility they would have to sign or trade for players that would fill needed holes, not that they would do that because you know that will cost opportunity down the road, but they idea that they could is crazy awesome, on top of loading up on the next wave of prospects/Stars.
  21. Isn't this the same guy that said the Twins could lock up Wheeler RIGHT NOW for 5/84. I get missing out on stuff, but he was only off by 34 million dollars.
  22. Rookie Years: Radke - 5.32 ERA and lead the lead in homers given up with a 1.337 WHIP Lohse - 5.68 ERA with a WHIP of 1.450 Garza - 5.76 ERA with a WHIP of 1.7 Baker - 6.37 ERA with a WHIP of 1.560 Slowey - was was good his rookie season - 3.99 ERA with a 1.154 WHIP Blackburn - was OK as well 4.05 ERA with a 1.360 WHIP Silva pitched in 130 games prior to coming to MN but his first year starting was 4.21 ERA with a 1.42 WHIP Liriano was amazing but started his rookie season in the pen. if we go with those results and Graterol ends up like Liriano and Dobnak ends up like Slowey or Blackburn that would be good, but if not they will look real stupid after winning 101 games and having a truck load of money available to spend.
  23. Just because you say something doesn't make them true. Chavez never came close to a dWAR that Chapman has put up and once in his whole career had an oWAR of 4.8, which Chapman had this year and was 5.0 last year. and Koskie had one year in his career comparable to Chapman in 2001. I doubt the Mets would laugh at a straight up trade, they probably won't do it just based on that Alonso is 2 years younger. But I will be done with this and concede you feeling are more valuable than actual stats.
  24. that is factually incorrect. Chapman has won the Platinum Glove Award two years running. Alonso had a better year offensively but was below average fielder at 1st base and saying somebody is better without taking into consideration the half of the game isn't they way to judge players. They were both awesome and I would take either on the Twins.
