  1. If you are only getting one, then add Gibson to that list, he is the only one of the five that you really know what you are going to get. 5-6 innings on average and a ERA just a bit higher than league average. Which isn't too bad for a 5th starter if your first 4 are good. I think it is a huge mistake going into next year with Santana, Berrios and three question marks.
  2. With all that he is hitting .272 with 124 K's in 492 at bats, been caught stealing 7 times in 20 tries and has 21 errors. Yes, I know he is young for the league and I know I am cherry picking stats, but nothing there tells me he is a FOR SURE 10-15 year starting shortstop in the majors, I hope like heck if we don't trade him he is.
  3. Agreed that would be a risk (I am not sure Verlander is the answer either, I just don't see much out there to trade for or sign), but when ever weighing the risks, how much more of risk is that than the prospects don't pan out or are not ready next year? Also if this site is correct I don't see any pitcher out there that I want to spend 15+ million a year on. Although Cobb does interest me) http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/free-agents/starting-pitcher/
  4. it does seem like some think that are next bunch of prospect don't come with risk or at a cost. What if Gonzo doesn't get it right away or Romero is still working though issues. And we have to run though a bunch of starters again next year? I would rather have prospects absolutely pushing the big club to get them up (Granite/Garver) then the big club going down just looking for bodies. (Turley, Jorge, and every other pitcher we have called up)
  5. What is the huge risk? Money? prospects? 56 million is a lot of money, 2020 only kicks in if in the top 5 cy young voting in 19. Prospects? maybe we have no idea who it would be. Opportunity cost? possibly The upside is he pitches like he has this year for two more years. I don't see him blocking any of our pitching prospects, maybe if the contract was 4 or 5 years he would.
  6. I think what he has been doing is why people on this site said they wouldn't trade him for pitching. You don't trade a young possible generational talent because he is struggling at age 22/23.
  7. Isn't Mauer the Boggs of this generation? He doesn't change his approach depending on the situation. So most of his stats look real good with guys on or in scoring position; his RBI look low because he isn't a power guy and guys "seem" not to score as much from second on his hits (line drives to left) or don't get driven in by a walk. Not saying it is bad, just my observation.
  8. Don't forget the $51.7 bid to buy the negotiating rights
  9. hmmm, which twins pitching prospect is like Berrios?
  10. I think if everybody is serious about going all in 2018, Dozier has to be on the team. It would be a little different if Buxton could guarantee what he is doing now he will continue into next season. I would offer him something like 3/42 maybe with a team option for the 4th year. I wouldn't think of trading him or Polanco until Gordon has pushed Polanco and Dozier to the point of having to make a move and that hasn't happened yet. The nice thing is in the next few years fingers crossed we have multiple middle infielders pushing for playing time and that is when I would look into doing something or possibly sending one of them (plus others) for pitching.
  11. To me starting Gee and Gonzo in a double header is a recipe for disaster. Gee has been great the first time though the lineup but has been crushed the second time. So the best you are hoping for is 3 innings. I have my fingers crossed that Gonzo turns into a effective MLB starter or even better, I am just not sure it will be on Monday and if he has a short outing the pen will be ruined all week. As might as Gibson upsets me this year, I pitch him for the first 4 maybe more bring in Gee for the next 3 and hope to get though game 1 with only 3 or 4 pitchers. Then you have rest available for game 2. As for Vargas I am done with him, I want Garver over him.
  12. Completely agree, to assume we will stay this healthy the next few years is crazy talk.
  13. Is it safe to start talking about SANO having a somewhat disappointing season?
  14. Is Kate part of it also? that could help sell tickets on the chance she might show up? (I started this Verlander talk as a joke)
  15. We can trade Reed, Slegers Curtis and Garver and anybody else we don't plan on calling up
  16. Well there you go our new closer?
  17. Did Verlander pass though waivers ;0
  18. Is there a pitcher Molitor trusts enough that he would do what Counsell did with Hader last night, I think he would have blown though at least two pitchers in the 5th.
  19. Could it be that we hoped he was better than he is? I mean not this bad but not as good as last year? After looking at his minor league stats I not really seeing anything that screams he was supposed to be anything more than 3rd infielder type. .286/.346/.411 in 7 minor leagues seasons. He is still young, so hopefully he can be something similar to his minor league numbers in the majors.
  20. If you are willing to punt next year, that isn't a bad option. Gordon is doing fine in AA .282/.356/.436 But if he isn't close to those and Polanco is anything like this year, your screwed because catcher has been a black hole also and that is a 1/3 or the lineup. Me personally I make Gordon push the people a head of him out of a job, unless you give him SS and make Polanco force a trade of Dozier.
  21. Don't disagree with what you are saying, but if nobody on this team is going to be that slugger, then we are screwed because our FA money MUST go to pitchers. It isn't Mauer and Grossman's fault they are hitting in the 3-5 slots. The outfield we have must greatly improve over the next two years or we will be rebuilding forever.
  22. Is Napoli better than Mauer and Grossman this year?
  23. So having 3 utility infielders, a guy in AA and a no hit slick fielding SS is a logjam, the future is not bright.
  24. While I would love to have better players at first and DH, Grossman is 6th in the AL in OBP, Mauer is 12th. Sano is 20th, everybody else is below Dozier who is 54th. So the problem isn't them it is the development of the outfield and SS. (I do understand they are still young) but adding 2 more guys to the lineup that don't see a ton of pitches and have a low OBP isn't going to make this team better. If Kepler, Rosario and Sano - end up like Yelich, Ozuna and Stanton and we get two more starters and a bunch of new bullpen arms you can win with Dozier and Mauer no problem
  25. I agree he should be but my guess is because Polanco is out of options.
