  1. How about this idea, we sign JD and a cheap starting pitcher (Tilman or Gracia for example) and if is working, we go after the ace starting pitcher hard with a couple of our amazing can't miss prospects as soon as possible. There doesn't seem to be any starters that we really want, or willing to pay the price wanted for their talent level (Cobb/Lynn) and I am not one that says we have to spend just to spend.
  2. I would add when have they attempted the trade route with any real zealous?
  3. I said that is what Tampa would/should say. The Twins should say we are offering a future all star right fielder, a everyday SS for the next 10-15 years, and possible #1 starter at best or a dominant RP at the very worst, and even after getting those guys we will though in another guy that is likely to be a 4th or 5th starter for a starter that they league figured out last year but we think we can turn him around.
  4. Not sure why you say that, the Twins have if I figured it out correctly, only 3 guys making more than the average for their potion (Dozier, Reed and Mauer) and all three are barely over that. Seems like the perfect time to spend, because at some point Buxton, Rosario, Sano and maybe others will cost a fortune and the story will be are payroll is too high for FA's. IMO
  5. No one can argue that. IMO I would turn a few of those coin flips into players that can help us now, before those coin flips come up tails.
  6. Totally agree, it might be a sign of are young guys in the majors and a few of are other "prospects" failing off that leads to this. But there can be no denying we have a ton of talent in the low minors, now lets hope it returns us something in a trade or they make big impacts at Target Field in a few years. (and not fizzle off and we get nothing out of them)
  7. I LOVE the potential in all three, but crap shoot, coin flip it is all about the same. I really hope I am wrong and all three are starters in MN for years, but I am just being realistic.
  8. Well if you don't make the post season you have Zero chance of winning. But if you mean you go for it and injuries happen or some terrible luck happens, then I am with you. IMO the current state of the Twins is not capable of making the playoffs let alone winning it. Unless of course they are no major injuries or they have incredible luck. Which are two things I don't bet on. I believe the best chance for the Twins competing the next two years and maybe three years has nothing to do with our prospects in A ball. Those prospects can be turned into things to help us (Twins) win for the next few years and if we get the right players and we still don't win, they should be players we can turn around and trade for A balls players in a year one or three. Imagine we trade for Archer and he is really, really good but the rest of the team isn't, We should be able to turn around and trade him at the deadline either of the next two years for more than we gave up to get him.
  9. Here is why I am ALL for trading. Here is list of our top 10 or so pitching prospects since 2006 (from BA) We basically could have traded anybody on this list and not been hurt. Sure Berrios would be a tough one to swallow but he might have gotten us a huge return, Gibson is probably next. Most never made the majors and the ones that did weren't very good. One thing I see is damn the twins were bad a drafting and trading for pitchers. The other thing is Gonsalves has been a top prospect since 2014 and Romero since 2015, what would those two have returned and maybe with a good FA signing we would have been way better the last couple of years? 2017 Gonsalves,Romero,Jorge,Jay,Stewart,Graterol,Enlow,Thorpe,Littell,Watson 2016 Jay,Gonsalves,Stewart,Romero,Chargois,Mejia,Burdi,Thorpe,Reed,Hildenberger 2015 Berrios,Jay,Stewart,Meyer,Gonsalves,Chargois,Burdi,Rogers,Thorpe,Reed,Romero 2014 Stewart,Meyer,Berrios,Thorpe,May,Tonkin,Jorge,Jones,Gonsalves,Eades 2013 Gibson,Meyer,Berrios,May,Melotakis,Bard,Chargois,Jones,Tonkin,Baxendale 2012 Hendriks,Boer,Boyd,Salcedo,Wimmers,Gibson,Soliman,Summers,Guerra,Oliveros 2011 Gibson,Wimmers,Hendriks,Bullock,Salcedo,Bromberg,Gutierrez,Soliman,Holbrooks,Hermsen 2010 Gibson,Salcedo,Bullock,Gutierrez,Bromberg,Hermsen,Tottle,Slama,Bashore,Stuifbergen 2009 Hunt,Mijares,Mulvey,Gutierrez,Delaney,Broberg,Robertson,Slama,Manship,Nolte 2008 Robertson,Swarzak,Morlan,Manship,Duensing,Sosa,Mijares,McCardell,Mullins,Rainville 2007 Garza,Slowey,Swarzak,Perkins,Neshek,Smith,Morlan,Manship,Waldrop,Duensing 2006 Liriano,Perkins,Swarkzak,Garza,Rainville,Waldrop
  10. So a average corner outfielder with upside, and top prospect that probably isn't going to stay as a SS, a big time arm that has been injured and has a 50/50 shot at ending up in the bullpen, and a possible 4th starter is too much to give up for a 29 year old starter with a few more controllable years with 160 career starts and 3.63 ERA. That is what I say if I am Tampa in response to you.
  11. and I believe Pucket's was the largest ever at the time. So Buxton, Berrios and Sano should feel good about those two.
  12. Really, really like his potential, what worries me is 8,9,10 are complete crap shots. and you might say the same all the way though 13?
  13. I tend to agree, but maybe the prospects wouldn't be the ones we are thinking. What if it is Stewart and Pearson or similar? That wouldn't affect our core prospects and we could still sign Cobb?
  14. So the 7.7 WAR from the 3 years before don't count, what happened last year that was different? I truly don't know, Trading guys that the odds say won't make the majors for a 27 year old starter with 126 games started and a career ERA of 3.83 seems about the right price to me, unless of course he was healthy and his velocity dropped and other similar things. Would I rather have Archer or one of the Mets starter or some other high end guy, absolutely but it seems we aren't willing to pay the asking price for them.
  15. Question - Trevor May could only hope to be as good as Odorizzi has been and May is older, and on this site (not saying you) but quite a few people are hoping he comes back to the rotation (dare I say to save it) I would rather have Archer and still want to sign Darvish, but why wouldn't Odorizzi be a nice consolidation prize for not getting Archer? I would rather not trade Javier, Enlow and Baddoo for him, but I don't think it is horrible trade, 3 guys that are not guaranteed for a above average starter for the last three year (not so much last year) I am not sure how is WAR last years was worse than Gibson - per ESPN.
  16. I hope you are right, I think our closer won't be as good as last year, Reed will make it better, Duke should help, but the rest is the same guys and hopefully they step up. If our starters cause over use, I can't say it will be way better than last year.
  17. I don't think they are better with Santana's injury. We were really lucky last years with injuries (minus Sano) and had a few players play over their heads. Asking for that two years in a row is asking a lot. But if we do, the offensive is the same maybe a little bit better, starters are worse, and the bullpen is about the same which wasn't great.
  18. Love the potential and upside of Baddoo and Graterol, what I don't like is they are a few years away from the majors and prospects like are 50/50 at best at making it and way less at being really good. On a positive note - Sign Davish and in the two or three years it take Grateol and Thorpe to make "Big Time" along with Berrios we could have the best pitching staff in the Central and maybe the American league, and this will happen prior to Buxton and Sano becoming free agents.
  19. Trading Kepler (which I wouldn't be against) puts a hole in the outfield, which means it would also be a must to get a right fielder, adding Odorizzi and inserting Granite into a starting position I don't believe is better than keeping Kepler. I would do your trade for Archer, I would hate to trade Romero or Gonzo before knowing what they really are, but that is probably the cost.
  20. The question I asked was "Can a logo be racist without changing the meaning of racist?" If you draw a picture a picture of race with some bad stereotype, it doesn't make the picture racist if makes you a racist. If somebody else sees the picture and says it is racist, they have changed he meaning of racist. Webster defines racism as: 1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race 2 a : a doctrine or political program based on the assumption of racism and designed to execute its principles b : a political or social system founded on racism 3 : racial prejudice or discrimination A logo or piece of paper can do none of those things. So the real answer isn't that the logo is racist it is the Cleveland baseball team is and thus MLB because they are part of that organization.
  21. Thanks, I guess I misunderstood what "option" meant. So you are saying if Jorge spends all year in the minors that will be his 2nd option? Ok, I change my mind run all of those pitchers on the 40 man roster up and down all year to figure out what we have. (Thank you for correcting me on this)
  22. Can a logo be racist without changing the meaning of racist? I get that it can be offensive and other adjectives similar but I don't see how a logo can be racist, I believe what you are actually saying is that the Cleveland Indians organization are racists for branding their team with this logo. One of the twins logos is a caricatures of two overweight white guys, some might find that offensive (not me). Maybe the solution is not allow teams to have logos, or the logo has to be initials of the city or state.
  23. I also agree, if we sign FA(s) and our prospects are awesome, they will find their way on the Twins. If we don't sign FA(s) and we push the prospects and they don't succeed we are burning options and running AAA pitchers our their every 2 to 3 days and wasting a season and making fans mad. If we sign one or a combo of 1 of the 4 top free agents and they fail, most fans will be mad at the player but accept the team was trying to win. If the plan ends up being Gibson #2 and lets see what Hughes, May and Duffey can do and hopefully a rookie steps up. Well that is GROSS!
  24. I was trying to say that would happen if we didn't sign a FA.
