  1. If I felt this way about Buxton I would be looking to trade him right now. I understand the concern, but every 24 year old has concerns.
  2. I am not, it is better for him to get hurt then just suck. And if we get Reyes like results from him, just about any extension will be considered cheap.
  3. I see no risk offering him up to 50 million dollars or more it is just money, and the Twins have pissed away why more money than that on guys with half the upside this guy has. if they offered him 6/72 and he gets hurt big deal insurance will cover most of that it shouldn't affect payroll going forward, and if he gets no better it is still a great deal. The only risk I see here is offering him too little.
  4. I will bet the under, hoping like heck I lose the bet.
  5. One could argue that before Jake started Pilates, he was as good as May hopes to be.
  6. Agreed it seems high for Mauer, Castro and Rosario and maybe LoMo. Maybe a little low on Dozier and Buxton (hopefully). Sano is the wild card, but if they cross 220 I think this could be a good year because basically everybody would be healthy.
  7. Seeing that Busenitz, Curtiss and Moya probably won't make the team, that makes losing those other relief pitchers to rule 5 OK. That would have just made two more minor league relief pitchers taking up 40 man roster spots. It also shows the opportunity cost of not trading some of your prospects before you end of losing them. When you have a glut of prospects at one position, you have figure out the ones you like and trade the others for spots you are weak at. I see the same thing happening with starting pitchers in the next year or two.
  8. I don't like at it as a bad draft strategy, I think the bad strategy was holding onto the "high" prospects way too long. Basically none of them helped the Twins in anyway and hurt them possibly by taking up Roster spots. That is why we need to draft some of our b- or better prospects for help at the major league level.
  9. Because they are looking for prospects instead of a major leaguer? or maybe because they know they can't meet his FA price?
  10. Is there any front end rotation guys next year?
  11. Well Rosario has been suspended once, and Sano has been injured and missed 40+ games in both of the last two years. Kepler and Rosario haven gotten better and Buxton has improved a ton but there is no guarantee . Plus in 3 years the Twins outfield could be Buxton, Lewis and Rooker or somebody else. In baseball or any other sport you can't plan to win 3 years in advance. Remember when the Nationals sat Starsburg because they wanted him for the next few years? They still haven't made the world series.
  12. Isn't it just as likely that at least one of them might be hurt in that time period, regress, or get suspended?
  13. "If you ain't first, you're last" Ricky Bobby
  14. agreed, he needs to be in MN at some time this year. If not wouldn't it be his 3rd option?
  15. Sorry I meant the top 10 that we have seen so far, I think Lewis is one of those prospects that have a really, really good chance of being a good major league regular.
  16. I think he would be a little lower ranked but everybody would be higher on him. Meaning a fourth round pick that has moved this fast and played in AFL would have everybody excited and would be hoping that this is the year he really turns it on to be considered a real top prospect and if he didn't they/we would be saying we got a real good utility infielder or at least a real good prospect until Lewis gets here.
  17. IMO so far the only two prospects in the top 10 that I would worry about trading and coming back to really haunt us is Javier and Graterol and possibly Enlow but that is probably 5 years away. I think a few will be decent to good in the majors. I
  18. Couldn't an argument be made that maybe if they would have traded prospects instead of Dozier and Santana maybe they could have went further? Gray, Darvish, verlander for example?
  19. So Berrios, Gibson, Mejia and a bunch maybe's. I would say irresponsible for sure.
  20. The options are bad since we didn't get Darvish and didn't trade for somebody. I would rather have a cheap 1 year deal than force Gonzo or Romero into something they are not ready for and end up with Slegers and Hughes anyway and nobody after them.
  21. He is a guy that has started the year the same place he ended the year before and now we are going to give him a shot in the majors, doesn't that seem like the Twins would be setting him up to fall flat on his face, so the first 5 years in the minors seemed to work really well, but lets change what has been working? Romero has been in the minors since 2012 (yes I know he had TJ) but at this point I don't think you can consider anything he does as advancing quickly IMO. I would love for Berrios, Gonzo and Romero to be our Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz or something even close but we all need to temper our expectations a bit on when this is going to happen. Remember a few years ago when the Mets had a rotation of pitchers with maybe the greatest stuff every (Smoltz said himself they were better then the Braves top 3/4) and how has that worked out?
  22. Can't disagree it has been added to. I love Reed addition, But is Rodney an upgrade on Kintzler and Belisle? Duke adds good depth that we didn't have last year, and the young guys should keep improving. But to me Reed is the only real prize addition
  23. strongly agree, that is my thinking on Cobb, Lynn and Jake to a point. If we could get them on a 1 or 2 year I wouldn't be against it. But JD seems way closer to a sure thing, not interested in 6/150, but maybe a 4/100 or something. and when the offensive is scoring a ton a runs it might force the front office to pony up a few prospects for a front line starter.
  24. I think everybody wants that but who this year is probably going to help us this year. (not who could if everything goes perfect) Gonzo - not the prospect Berrios was only has 4 starts in AAA and has never started more than 24 games in a year. Romero - Will be on a innings limit and has pitched 303 innings since 2012 Littell & Jorge - this year can you expect anything more than a spot start or two? and the rest are probably a few years or more away - Lewis Thorpe, Blayne Enlow,Brusdar Graterol
  25. Honest question is there no negotiation in these contracts? I mean if the Twins offered 5/100 can't the agent come back and say you are about a 1 year short and 26 million and my client is also looking for an opt out after year two? The twins say "interesting" let us go run some numbers and get back to you. Then they could have come back with something like 5/115 and the opt out or yea we don't want him that bad.
