  1. Exactly we are now almost guaranteed to use an option on Gonzo, Romero and another one Jorge and Slegers.
  2. I really like the idea, but the people not on this site think of our guys a little less than we do. So it might take way over paying. Looks like we are about a year away from having a bunch of guys other systems might want. (which might mean we don't have to trade 5 guys)
  3. Exactly! 2020 FA starting pitchers, The King (33), Hamels (36), Porcello (31), Rich Hill (39), Hughes (33), Erv (37), Nova (33), Hammel (37), Chacin (32), Bumgarner (30), Sale (30), Pineda (31), Smyly (30), Fister (35), Richard (36), Moore (30), Peralta (30), Lyles (29), De La Rosa (30), Roark (33), Cole (29), Gibson (32), Gray (30), Odorizzi (29), McHugh (32), Ramirez (29), Wacha (28), Wheeler (29), Wood (29) Maybe we should wait until 2021, then make a big splash.
  4. 2018 free agents starting pitchers, Clayton Kershaw, David Price, Matt Harvey, Gio Gonzalez, Patrick Corbin, Drew Pomeranz, Garrett Richards, Drew Smyly, Brandon McCarthy from here https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2017/08/21/mlb-2018-free-agent-class-bryce-harper-manny-machado/585368001/ Kershaw is 31 and I don't see us getting him, Price is 34. I don't like that list any better than the ones available now. Trading seems to be the only way to get a top rotation guy, unless by magic one of our minor league pitchers does it in less than 1 year.
  5. So are you saying the current Indians didn't take the land from other tribes? I mean it is awful short sided to say last tribe that held the land is the rightful owner, when they took it from someone else? Read history just about every place on earth has been taken over by other people.
  6. The difference between the Wolves and Indians is huge, no one has told the people that the old logo is offensive and racist, thus if you like it you are both of those two things. I could not give 2 rats arse what Cleveland does with their logo, was just trying to answer your question on why people get worked up. Drive around MPLS and you will see every other block is Indian name and nobody cares. Quick story, my friends and I had a fishing guide on Leach Lake, who happened to be Indian, the first day he had a Redskins hat on the second day he had a Chiefs hat on and one of my friends said I thought those were offensive, and he said he wears them with pride because after they take those names away the only way people will think of Indians is Meth heads and Casino's, and then he laughed, he added yea some of my friends find them offensive but I don't.
  7. My guess is because many people that cheers for a team, was proud of the team, and thought it the name was a great tribute to a group of people, are now being called racist, insensitive, bigots and may more names, and they don't like being called things they aren't or don't believe they are.
  8. Todd Frazier is my guy, really OBP, and plays third. Which we may need. I am done with Vargas, IMO the more he plays the more he gets exposed. Don't have proof or numbers just feels that way.
  9. I wouldn't sign all three, I would try and trade for a pitcher first and if then Darvish would be my second option. but I would ask the question if you took four pitching prospect from any team ever, has all four or even three ever ended up being top end rotation pitchers? How about even two of them if they weren't considered top 50 prospects in all of baseball. That isn't negative that is looking at history.
  10. So we don't sign any pitchers, get rid of Gibson and Hughes and we are on the cusp of contending? What is everybody's love affair with May? he is 28 and has a grand total of 25 which weren't good. In 2015 he was decent out of the pen; 2016 was a disaster and Ryan Pressly looks like a star compared to him? I am hoping he comes back from injury and helps the Twins, but IMO that is a BIG if. Gibson is the definition of a number 5, great starts, good starts, bad starts and horrible starts, but always ends up averaging close to 6 innings per start. Do I wish we had 5 better starters than that? absolutely but right now he fits that role well.
  11. 100% agree, because if Gonzo ends up just a 4/5, Romero ends up in the pen. Jorge ends up AAAA, Thorpe isn't quite ready and Little fails, we are stuck waiting for the next round of pitching while our fielders get expensive and people are yelling for us to trade for more prospects. and the cycle continues.
  12. Agreed, too many pitchers on the 40 man, what to do with them? Major League Starters Ervin Santana Jose Berrios Kyle Gibson Adalberto Mejia Phil Hughes Relief Up and down Addison Reed Fernando Rodney Trevor Hildenberger Taylor Rogers Zach Duke Tyler Duffey Alan Busenitz Ryan Pressly Tyler Kinley-? Relief down J.T. Chargois John Curtiss Gabriel Moya Minor League Starters Stephen Gonsalves Fernando Romero Felix Jorge Zack Littell Aaron Slegers Lewis Thorpe Dietrich Enns Trevor May - DL Michael Pineda - DL
  13. My first would be to trade for a pitcher. Second would be Cobb is you could get him for 4/60 (which I don't think you can) Third Davish If Cobb and Lynn are a combo I would pass. Getting both tells me the Front Office doesn't really see Gonzo or Romero helping this year.
  14. Totally respect you take, but would disagree that history shows low level prospects have a better chance of making an impact at the major league level over a guy that has done it for 5 years. Both those pitchers have had Tommy John, which I guess could be both a positive and negative, The other 3 haven't yet made it out of short season ball yet. Graterol 51 total innings, Baddo 370 total at bats, Javier 210 plate appearances. I like all of them and hope the heck you are right, but the probability of prospects show, Romero ends up in the pen, and one of the other 3 have a cup of coffee in the majors.
  15. The teams looking to trade a top end sort of pitcher aren't trading because of surplus. Are you willing to trade those for Archer or maybe a Mets starter? and do you think either team would take those 4 for their starter? I would trade them but I don't think it would be enough for the other team to make the trade, IMO.
  16. Yes, Law has Gordon 37 and Romero at 47, so those two and 3 others isn't horrible. If the twins front office is think Gordon is closer to 30 than 100, then maybe trading Polanco and Romero (and others) for Archer is the right thing to do. Sign Frazier and let Esocbar and Adrianza handle SS until Gordon is ready later this year or next.
  17. This list kind of makes all of our trade offers for Archer and others funny and sad. It seems we as Twins fans' think our prospects are way better than other do. Based on this list we aren't getting a top end starter without Lewis in the trade. Imagine how upset we would be if we traded Berrios in a couple of years for a couple of prospects rated in the 90's and a couple outside the top 100's.
  18. That is a pretty good list, my only issue with it is Polanco over Kepler. I would think most teams would give us more in a trade for Kepler than Polanco, and if not we should be using Polanco as trade bait for a pitcher.
  19. I think this works for the majors, but you also have to look at which players moved on and which players moved into the league. I was completely for drafting Gordon and have been on his bandwagon the last few years, but some of his shine has went away for me. He is 22 and looking at repeating AA (it seems to me most super studs have seen the majors by 22, I could be wrong on that) and we still are not sure of his position. So I have no issue with him falling a bit in the Twins prospect list, but that is also why I am fine with trading him for pitching.
  20. 7 of the 10 they are predicting will be starters in 3 years says something about proximity?
  21. They way I see this list is that they are predicting Javier will be the starting 3B in 2021, Lewis starting SS and Gordon either not here or not a starter and by that they should be rated higher.
  22. I hope Garver is good enough to be a starting catcher, but at this stage in his career Gimenez has on the surface better numbers than Garver and never became a starting catcher. With this lineup either are pitching prospects worked out or we signed big time pitcher free agents, because we still have all of our top prospects.
  23. That fair and I am not trying argue, so based on that where does Pressly fit? His is a bit older and we have him for a year less I think, but it seems he has proven more than either of those two? I wonder if the Twins could only keep Duffey for Busentiz who would they take? I respect your opinion but when I think assets I think if would I rather have player A this year and going forward than Player B. Example I would take Littell and Thorpe going forward over Duffey, which IMO means they are better assets. Again love reading your stuff.
  24. They would lose a guy that gets OBP, plays great defense, sees a lot of pitchers, and a really good utility guy (by playing Escobar full time). You would be moving Sano for the third time in 3 years. You would gain quite a bit as well no denying that; maybe not directly on the field but for sure roster and salary flexibility. You lose Duffey or May and you lose a guy that didn't pitch last year and is no more than a hope this year and the 4th right hander out of the bullpen. Doesn't May have a history with back issues?
  25. I understand this is subjective, but if you go off of those two things than Mauer is a huge asset, others have posted his AVG, OBP and defense (tied for 4th in WAR in the American league first basemen based on ESPN). Plus 23 million will be coming off the books next year. IMO two league average at best relief pitchers (hope I am wrong) with little to no trade value isn't a key to ongoing success for the Twins. Rooker, Thorpe and Baddoo are more important to the Twins ongoing success, either as a trade chip or contributor to the team Not trying to disrespect Nick this was a great article and hard to do
