  1. They regained compliance for revenue sharing with the other owners three years ago in 2022, which is why they brought their payroll all the way up to 60M. They could have done this the last several years but didn't solely to continue crying poor and stick it to Oakland:
  2. Wow. What a slap in the face to the fans in Oakland. They spend two decades pretending they CAN'T make this move and now prove themselves wrong while in an even worse financial situation the next three years than they ever were. Absolute awful and vindictive owner.
  3. They said that last year. Then the offense tanked and they missed the playoffs. Again. I could see them changing tactics. But as much as I'd like the Twins to get one of their pitchers, I'd guess other teams that are willing to spend money in free agency to fill their holes will be more eager to trade the prospect and pre-arbitration players needed to get them.
  4. Read it and agree. It's basically a more detailed demonstration of what many of us have been saying for a long time. It's usually better to ignore the 'floor' and chase the 'ceiling'
  5. The pitchers get who the get and they won't throw a fit.
  6. The difference between a 10M back up catcher and a 1M back up catcher tends to be negligible. Still, getting rid of Vazquez and basically doing nothing with the savings just because ownership has some magic payroll number doesn't turn me on at all. I'm not sure why anyone wants to get rid of Jeffers though. Even if he was just average, that's more than fine with this position. I'm also not going to assume Camargo can't cut it just because Baldelli refused to use him. Maybe he is terrible, but Baldelli ALWAYS avoids using the young players until he's no longer able to. So his lack of usage means next to nothing.
  7. The reward for hitting on the young players is exponentially higher, while the punishment for their failure is about the same. Jordan Luplow isn't going to lose any more games than Manny Margot did. And pretending that the 2025 version of this mystery veteran will have a higher floor is just wishful thinking as there is no such thing as a floor in the MLB.
  8. How is it a different boat than some sub par vet like Manny Margot? If this hypothetical player is the excuse for missing the playoffs, they aren't making the playoffs anyway.
  9. Who cares which internal guy gets those PAs if the external option is some low rent veteran you have to roster all year because ownership can't get away from sunk costs. Just keep cycling through the guys you have, optioning and DFA'ing as needed, until someone sticks.
  10. So basically the same odds that they'd miss the playoffs? They can do this!
  11. This part has been fixed with the draft allotments and slotting of the pay. The Padres notoriously didn't/wouldn't pick Verlander (or Jared Weaver or Stephen Drew) because they were Scott Boras clients and the Padres wouldn't pay both the bonus and guaranteed contract demands for those players. Still not an exact science, but the draft is much more equitable.
  12. They don't have to believe in him, they just have to realize he has a quality that the 2025 version of Manny Margot does not; options. If Keirsey flops, no big deal, send him down and try the next man up. If Margot flops? Sigh, it's going to be a long year.
  13. I'm not a pass blocking guru in any sense, but Akers was on the right side, I would think that they'd let the blitzer on the right side come threw for Akers while Bradbury slides to take the guy from the left. In either case, in those situations, my understanding is that you always pick up the inside guys, let the guy on the edge come free since he has further to go and the QB can step up in the pocket to buy the extra second.
  14. This isn't happening. MLB is just taking a page out of Jerry Jones' playbook. Nobody is talking about us right now so let's say something crazy to get us back on the front page. The more bombastic the better.
  15. Not interested. As a rule, when a guy has played for five different teams in three years, I don't want him.
  16. Crossed three hours in the 2000's but game time really started to take a drag in the mid 1990's when ESPN pretty much ONLY showed Yankees/Red Sox games and every one of those players had to primp and preen with one foot in the batters box to make sure they got as much air time as possible. The rest of the league's players followed suit in the decade that followed.
  17. His games are absolutely fun to watch. As a fan, I probably couldn't handle it with MY team, but I'm all for it for someone else's team.
  18. Well, up until five minutes ago I thought Winston would find another starting job next year. Now I'm guessing he'll be backing up Caleb Williams for the next half decade.
  19. Jerry Jeudy probably.
  20. I'd guess the Winston interceptions snowball kind of like when Adrian Peterson had the fumbling problems. The defense knows the turnovers are ripe for the picking so they are gunning for them harder than ever. Seems most of Winston's picks are cheated on undercut breaks (at least the two tonight), as one would be looking to do if you know that's something that's highly likely to occur.
  21. Ha, I mean the dude threw for !!!5000!!! yards and couldn't find a job the next year. Absolutely staggering swings of highs and lows.
  22. Very similar. I'd say Winston is more talented though. He can make some amazing throws. But the picks........yikes.
  23. I'd say it's game to game more so than year to year. Like this pass that happened while I'm typing this post.
  24. He did have the misfortune of being injured both years though. I honestly can't say if Risner has been bad or not, but the fact that I haven't noticed him the last three games and I constantly noticed Ingram makes me think Risner has been better. Bradbury on the other hand gets snowplowed on to his back at least once a game and the uncontested blitzes up the middle were both between Bradbury and Brandel last game. Come on Bradburry, what did you think was going to happen with this set up?
