  1. My question would be, are the Twins really going to get a better player if they save 6M on Castro? Whether they spend 6M, 4M or 0M of the savings, I wouldn't expect that player to be nearly as useful. I could see him TRADED for something useful, but I don't see them shopping for something useful on the free agent market with those funds. Or actually any funds they may find themselves with this year.
  2. Of course Brock Purdy may not play when the 49er's play Green Bay. Ugh, I hate the Packers.
  3. You don't think he'll be a malcontent? He just asked for his release instead of sitting on the bench, so clearly he thinks he should be a starter. If you grab him now, then that means he won't have a chance to test free agency and realize NOBODY wants him to start. And honestly, I think I'd rather have Mullens (and I don't want Mullens). Jones seems to have the same problem as Justin Fields and Christian Ponder. Tentative, indecisive and slow reads hanging on to the ball too long getting sacked. It's been six years and the guy still can't or won't throw deep even with a stud rookie downfield threat on the team, he's probably the worst in the league at it with 6.1 yards per attempt.
  4. I don't think he accepted being humbled though, otherwise he wouldn't have asked for his release. He would have accepted that his play wasn't good enough, kept his mouth shut and then set out to land in Buffalo or Detroit next year where he knows he won't start but he can show everyone that he can be a role player and a good soldier on a winning team. I don't think he should go anywhere, like Minnesota, where there will be even a hint of role ambiguity.
  5. Ooof, I don't know, I don't think I want him on this team. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who could handle looking over his shoulder at McCarthy, and he also doesn't seem to be the kind of guy who will handle losing the starting job to McCarthy well either. At least I think he's not that kind of guy yet. I think he needs to take the Carson Wentz/Blaine Gabbert path. Get humbled when he realizes no team wants to offer him a starting job, than accept his fate and eventually find a prime back up gig and make a nice career out of it, realizing that maybe he'll get another shot at starting later in life. I don't think I want the Vikings to be the SECOND team he goes to. That didn't work out for the teams that signed Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield or Geno Smith as reclamation projects.
  6. I've always been a Pittsburgh and Tomlin fan, but that team is so dang stubborn. I know conventional wisdom says to run in those conditions, but they were constantly getting stuffed on the big plays. And for good reason, they only have average RBs and Cleveland has a stout front seven. Not to mention that everyone knows Pittsburgh WANTS to run the ball. In games with bad footing, the WRs have the biggest edge out of any position as they're running forward and the defenders trying to cover them are running backwards. Wilson had a 75% completion rate, they should have been passing more than they were running, and by a lot.
  7. Right his value is in taking ABs away from Manny Margot, Kyle Farmer and any other low end veteran they'd consider bringing in. And with this team being able to generate some exciting young players, who inexplicably fall off a cliff without warning, he'd help with that too.
  8. No. Get better players or get no players at all. A guy with a career .270 OBP will not “upgrade the roster”. These are June DFA candidates.
  9. I don't see him getting close this year. But he'll get in eventually, and it won't be popular. And I feel a bit bad about it as I was always an 'Eli is overrated guy'. But top 12 passing yards and TDs and two Super Bowl wins. Mostly he couldn't get out of Peyton's shadow. I kind of see him now as a Derek Jeter or Charles Barkley. I disliked them when they played, but I probably had little reason to other than because of the teams they played for.
  10. As always in the NFL HOF voting (and unlike every other sport), guys at the same position will take votes away from each other. I hadn't remembered how good Luke Keuchly was, but I'd put money on him getting the LB votes over Suggs this year. Only 8 seasons, but five time 1st team AP, two times 2nd team AP and the year he didn't make AP he won defensive rookie of the year. Then if Suggs is looked at as an edge rusher instead, I'd bet Allen gets his votes, mostly because this HOF makes you wait in line. One of the offensive lineman will probably get in. I'd guess Willie Anderson since he's been a finalist 5 times. Then I'd guess one of the WRs, and I'd guess Steve Smith or Reggie Wayne. I'll say Wayne because of the pecking order thing again. I'll further guess that Jerry Jones throws his weight around to get the Cowboys their only win this year and Darren Woodson gets in. Seems about right for Gates to get in as well. And as good as Vinatieri was, I'm guessing they won't let a kicker get in on his first ballot.
  11. The offensive production was a significantly bigger issue than the defense last year.
  12. I'd guess if anyone is taken, it's Moran. The MLB experience will help, but we've also seen teams take players who they were able to shelve on the IR. My dark horse is Will Holland as utility guys are the easiest to stash. I don't see any team picking and using a 26-man spot all year for a catcher. That's just asking for roster trouble. But I doubt anyone is claimed and I agree with the rest, I'm not worried if they are.
  13. Yeah, it didn't turn out to be a good trade, but the Twins traded an A ball no-namer for a AAA prospect who had legit five tool upside.
  14. I'm not sure why someone would put A-Rod in but not Manny Ramirez then. I don't care that they're not in, they knew this would very likely be a consequence for juicing and they did it anyway. But as the years pass, I care less and less. It's just a bust and a plaque, and I have no strong feelings either way. Still, the rest of the players busted during that era didn't get in so staying the course seems like the best option. I think you let the last couple remaining age off the ballots, and then some time in the future, everyone can revisit that group of players and decide if they want to amend the situation.
  15. Zimmer's for sure. I've never liked McCarthy as a coach and wouldn't want him on my team. But some owner might put weight on those back-to-back-to-back 12-5 seasons. Probably not next year though.
  16. Sorry Lou, I guess I didn't read close enough. Good stuff!
  17. Pretty sure that was the point. Stu taking aim at the site instead of the Twins this time, and I got a kick out of it.
  18. I doubt he cares as long as people are watching. He's more concerned with the next concert at his stadium.
  19. How desperate is McCarthy to save his job that he won't try.
  20. You had me at 'worse than Manny Margot'.
  21. ****Moderator Note**** Stay on topic please.
  22. I'm signing Christian Walker to a 3/$60 million deal to play first base. This is pricy, but he’s been worth an average of 3.6 fWAR over the past three seasons and can hold the position down during the current core’s window. Signing him will also send a message to fans that the Twins are still investing and want to win. Even if there is a few dollars to throw at free agents, I don't see this team giving out a multi year deal unless it's something marginal. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but I don't see a deal like the one suggested for Walker even being considered this year. I think they want to declutter to make the financials look more flexible for potential buyers. If they do spend 20M, it's more likely to be one year deals. I don't think the Twins are as interested in sending a message to the fans as they are to a new ownership group.
  23. I'd keep Nowlin over McLeod. I know the results say otherwise, but I'd never trust someone throwing under 90 MPH on the major league mound. Also, based on the Twins letting Severino walk, I wouldn't be surprised to see Rosario unprotected. I really only need to see Raya protected, but that would leave four open roster spots, and frankly, I have no interest in filling them with dime store free agents, so go ahead, give them to the kids for all I care. I'd rather see Rosario or Holland than the 2025 version of Manny Margot.
  24. 18 seconds is too few, but he still should have taken a knee at the 15.
  25. Conky certainly didn't run good routes, but he had better hands.
