  1. This is going to improve so much when Cashman gets back. Also shows that they're going to need to find another versatile MILB next year, because the whole thing can't come to a screeching halt over just one player.
  2. I'm still of the mind that the one play was so comically bad that it will be remembered all year. But I agree, I hadn't seen them run up the middle like that all year. And the Colts have some pretty good players on the DL.
  3. Looks like good technique to me:
  4. Yeah, draft pick compensation for non-star players is a joke. If you want to make a run, this is an easy low risk avenue to fix the club. On the other hand, if they aren't making a run, I really, really dislike that the Vikings are the third oldest team in the league. They have to find a way to fix this somehow.
  5. Yeah, this is Darnold's only season here I'm sure. He's not bad and he'll justifiably get a starting gig elsewhere next season, but he's probably a Geno Smith type at his peak. He can make all the throws, but his decision making will hold him back from ever being an elite QB. I also liked the defensive adjustment. They were able to go back to a constant rotation of the edge players like they did the first several games while also covering for the disparity between Pace and Cashman's skills. That should have been particularly tough considering the Colts two best players, Taylor and Downs, tend to eat up the middle of the field. yet the Vikings pulled it off.
  6. I know a lot of fans won't like it, but if this team doesn't have money to spend, they need to use 2025 to evaluate the in house options. That means see if the younger guys can play and hold down specific defensive positions and let them take their lumps and hopefully improve with repetition against same handed pitching. They should have done it last year when they slashed payroll and didn't get a Sonny Gray replacement, but it's too late now. They can't just avoid these trials and expect them to magically transpire when they're out of options or when they have to make tough arbitration decisions.
  7. https://fansided.com/dennis-allen-defends-saints-dt-for-blatantly-dirty-play-on-justin-herbert-chargers When his player clearly tried to break Justin Herbert's leg two weeks ago, and then Allen defended it saying it wasn't dirty, it really bothered me. If your player will do that, and you don't think it's dirty, then YOU'RE the problem Allen.
  8. And they're one of the oldest teams in the league too. How does a non-competitive team extend a 29-year-old RB mid-season?!? GM should have been fired before he could sign that contract.
  9. *Potential* MLB ready help, because alas, they got none.
  10. Dennis Allen is fired. Long overdue. I don't think he's good at his job and the stench of Sean Peyton and the embracement of dirty plays never left that organization when they promoted him.
  11. Yeah, some coincidence. The entire board was down on this team preseason, then they started off hot and when they lost two games you came back to pile on. This team's QB is Sam Darnold. that was a league-wide joke until week 1, but NOW you talk like he was supposed to make this team a top 5 offense. Sorry, you need to face it (but won't) this team has over achieved. If you don't believe me, maybe you'll believe this guy: Damn KOC, you were supposed to have this offense as a top end unit!!!!!!!
  12. Do they prioritize good defense at 1B? Not when Sano was here, not when Alex Kirilloff was the primary 1B all off season until signing Santana two weeks before spring training opened. Miranda was the primary 1B in 2022, I think you're underestimating their acceptance of his glove and overestimating what they demand from the defense. I know there is an unfair assumption that if you can play any other position you can play 1B, which isn't true, but honestly, being able to play 3B is perhaps the best indicator you can. Right handed players have to backhand balls at the hot corner which is the most similar play to snagging errant short hops from the infielders, and with right handers, their glove hand directly guards the line at 1B. If there is one position that should translate to 1B, it's 3B, and Miranda hasn't shown anything to prove otherwise. Spend the money elsewhere, there's likely not a 13M upgrade, and if there was, there'd no money to upgrade anywhere else. This spot would be very, very low on my priority list.
  13. Well he’s only hitting his prime years and he’s been at .750 OPS in two of his three seasons. I don’t see that as his best case scenario. But really, if they have only $10-15M to spend (and I suspect the 130M promise might be reneged), I don’t suspect you’re getting much of an upgrade at 1B for that amount. I’d take the .750 OPS at 1B already in hand and look to improve elsewhere. Miranda had the fifth highest OPS+ on the team last year. It's understandable if someone doesn't believe in him, but I don't understand how there aren't a dozen players one wouldn't believe in even less.
  14. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/ikem-ekwonu-out-xavier-legette-questionable-for-panthers Hmmm, I wonder if an even better LT wasn't actually available. The Panthers are sitting Ikem Ekuonu due to an ankle injury. Probably accurate, but sitting a guy to protect his trade value has become a bit of a trend. Probably wouldn't have been a great fit though I suppose. He was a first round pick in 2022 so he'd be on the books next year too and in 2026 unless his option isn't picked up. He'd likely cost considerable draft capital AND the Vikings would have had to pay 3 starting caliber tackles. And he's probably legitimately injured and I'm reading too much into it.
  15. Impressive. I'd venture to guess that a guy who can (barely) play SS is rarely the last guy on the list. That spot is probably usually reserved for no-name relievers, AAAA catchers, starters with a +7.00 ERA or CORNER bats who can neither hit or field.
  16. It's looking like the Vikings will be without Cashman again. I think the Vikings win, but Flacco will will certainly take advantage of Pace's coverage problems.
  17. Absolutely time to move on, but I wish him well. For as rough as 2024 was, his versatility coupled with his league average bat was a key contribution to the 2023 team's success. Thanks Kyle and good luck.
  18. To be fair, Carlos Santana was both a plus defender AND played 150 games this year with 146 of those games as the starting 1B. The fact that Miranda made 12 starts seems like a good sign to me actually. No one other than Kirilloff started a game at 1B and Kirilloff was supposed to be Santana's left handed compliment. Once Kirilloff became unusable, Miranda was hands down their back up 1B and they didn't even bother looking for another option. And in 2023 Miranda didn't beat out Solano for playing time because his bat wasn't good enough to play in the majors.
  19. Right, but the lack of competition is pretty typical for a backup catcher, whether he's paid 10M or 1M. And really, in the years that they aren't rostering a Vazquez of Jason Castro in addition to their internal option, they usually stash a veteran in AAA. I'm Ok rolling with Camargo, but I suspect most aren't, including the front office. I'd just grab a Tucker Barnhart or Yan Gomes knowing that whether it's an OPS of .400 or .600 it's not worth worrying about the degree to which they are impacting the team. You're not counting on them to help offensively in any scenario.
  20. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, mostly because my enthusiasm for next season isn't high regardless of the payroll, but if the Twins are able to move Vazquez and Paddock, I'm not sure that the savings will be re-invested back into the payroll. The Twins announced the payroll won't be going down this year BEFORE both the Rangers and Cardinals, two teams who historically spend over expectations said they are dropping payroll, and it's thought that many other teams will do the same. To me, that sounds like a green light for Joe Pohlad to renege on his previous statement and also cut back. "Well, we said it wouldn't be lower, but we didn't expect things to change so quickly. Look at what all the other teams are doing."
  21. I'd disagree, in that even if you sign a pricey backup, he's still likelier than not to hit like Vazquez. I don't think Danny Jensen's odds of being an offensive weapon are significantly higher than say Christian Bettencourt or Yan Gomes. It's the backup catcher spot, I'm more than happy going back to the Mike Redmond/Drew Butera method with the position. Spend the money elsewhere.
  22. The Dodgers don't tend to be a prospect-for-prospect kind of team. I'm thinking they'll want MLB talent, and I'm not giving them Jax. But really, top catching prospects don't tend to work out too often. I think the odds that Jeffers rebounds is higher than the odds that a AAA catcher turns into a star player.
  23. New York doing a replay assists for the face mask? Yes, it happened. One week after they said there was nothing that could be done about the Vikings face mask.
  24. I'm not as emphatic, but I like his chances. I'm not sure if a new hitting coach can iron out the team-wide epidemic of inconsistent hitting, but the roller coaster production isn't just a Julien thing. Just about all the players are doing it, which makes me think there's an underlying issue the team hasn't addressed yet.
  25. Their D still looks pretty dang good. Which makes Rodgers and the offenses ineptitude all the more fun. Gotta think the defensive players aren't happy with Rodgers.
