  1. Right, he was supposedly Mr. Consistancy with the age caveat. So was Nolasco, minus the age caveat. Whether it is free agency or the draft, people seriously over-estimate the high floor of some of the "safe" arms and injury is only a part of the reason they may not live up to the moderate expectations. Always go for high ceiling, floor be damned!
  2. Tray Vavra and Tyler Kuresa also have made 4 errors combined at 1B so far which may indicate they are not strong fielding 1B. They may not be able to pick his throws that the average 1B would be able to. Anyone know what kind of velocity Cederoth is bringing as a starter? Usually these guys lose some MPH after moving from the pen, but he had high 90's heat when we was in the rotation in 2013.
  3. Clearly the best scenario now would be if May or Meyer come up in the second half and put no doubt in the front office's mind that they will be a member of this rotation come 2015. If both of them could do it, the Twins have a real nice problem on their hands trying to find rotation spots for everyone. For a couple of years the Tigers were rumored to be open to moving Rick Porcello, as he was once a highly thought of prospect who the team barely had room for in the rotation. They never pulled the trigger, but I'll bet the Twins have the same situation with Kyle Gibson if May, Meyer and Berrios are all options by some point in 2015.
  4. While Gardy does have the perception of coddling injured, even simply hurt players, I think had Nolasco told them he had soreness but believed he could pitch through it, they would have still run him out there. At least to a point. I don't think he needed to hide the injury, this team let Brad Radke pitch with a fractured shoulder socket after all. They pushed Scott Baker to continue pitching even AFTER he started complaining about elbow problems and wasn't it Matt Capps who was injured all season yet they kept running him out to not close games because Capps wanted to tough it out? I think if Nolasco told them he could handle it, they would have given him ample latitude to gut it out.
  5. "A customer can withdraw up to 48 ounces every 15 minutes. If that sounds like a lot, there is an employee at each station to not only check identification but also to intercede should a beer drinker appear intoxicated." Well you'll have to wait 15 minutes just to get the stupid card at the concession stand! Does 48 ounces every 15 minutes sound like a challenge to anyone else?
  6. As a reliever he may have an easier time getting to the majors. Still, there are a lot of good BP arms at NB and Rochester that he has to get in line behind.
  7. Well there's probably no one to foot the bill for pre-draft medicals but the HS kid. It would be kind of hard to ask a kid to do spend a couple thousands of dollars on MRI's and other procedures knowing that if something bad shows up he'll be lucky to get a bonus large enough to foot the bill. Aiken would go high regardless, but what about the guy who could fall from the compensation round to round 15?
  8. Ha, the question didn't list KLaw by name but it was clearly him that the individual was referencing. I like to think that Parks knew this and his response was a shot at KLaw.
  9. If you get a new GM, he's going to want to bring in his own on and off field staff. So I'd assume a new GM would almost automatically mean a clean house. Of course that's if they step outside the country club and if they don't, well what was the point of replacing the GM to begin with?
  10. Is it that you don't think the mechanical adjustment to the flaw is the cause of his success or that you don't think it was the Twins coaching staff's responsibility to identify the flaw?
  11. I agree that it was Ryan's fault more so than the coaches. Still that's a pretty easy thing to say if your goal is to keep the on-field staff. It's basically the growing annoyance that is the "My bad" statement. I don't much care who's mistake it is, it needs to be fixed or the hammer will fall on all. If Ryan thinks that he himself is the problem, well, the solution is pretty clear. It's great that he recognized his fault but it means little if there are no consequences. That being said, there clearly was a more concerted effort to improve the club through free agency this off season. Though some of it was misguided, I recognized the attempt, which was a welcome departure from character.
  12. "Everything's there," Worley told the Daily News. "It was just this vs. that. I'm just glad that they believed in me and knew who I was and what I was capable of." -Vance Worley (while mooning the Twins)
  13. I wasn't a Nolasco fan, but I said at the time I was still thrilled that the front office finally had the courage to partake in free agency. I'm still glad they tried. I just hope that wasting good money in free agency teaches the front office that they were only wrong about what kind of pitcher to get doesn't actually scare them away from it altogether.
  14. I also assume the price would be much too lofty. Still, I'm not sure he's available. Just about everybody thinks Russell will not stick at SS at the MLB level and it's split whether Baez will. It's really frustrating that the Cubs are awful but have these uber-valuable trade assets while the Twins are awufl and have only low-value players to deal. I'm not sure if it's more an indictment on the Cubs on field staff that they can't get a team with superior players to win more games, or if it's just confirmation that having a couple of good pieces isn't nearly enough to be competitive.
  15. Wait, so now something's wrong with Buxton's back?!?!
  16. Holy crap, this thread died quickly. No post-mortem game comments or rhetoric. When it's over, it's over I guess!
  17. A concensus? There's not a concensus about anything around here. Even if you mean to say majority and not concensus, would that mean that the hypothetical populist opinion should prohibit the rest of from from hearing about the non-top prospects? Even if you got people to agree with you, who sits on the committee to determine the "prospect" cut off line? Do we only talk about Buxton and Sano? If we did, this thread would be done while they rehab. The top ten prospects? We wouldn't be talking about Trevor May then. Top 20? We couldn't talk about Kennys Vargas. What about the draft picks? Can they even be ranked? No need to discuss Gordon, Burdi or Cederoth I guess. This is one of the most popular threads. If you don't like reading about the human interst stuff about the guys who likely will never get a chance to play at the MLB level, you could probably just type Buxton, Sano, Meyer, Stewart, Rosario and Barrios into your browser's "find on this page" search tool and skip to the good parts.
  18. Well I certainly like that the Twins aren't screwing around biding their time waiting to see what's left over. They had 12 months to evaluate these guys, I'm glad they're getting right to business. I like the initiative.
  19. While I'm glad the Twins haven't been totally cheap about the process and I'm very excited about Ynoa, the bonus pools are set up for the teams with the poor records the year prior to spend the most. With that in mind, the intention of the process is for the Twins to be getting a top 5 guy each of the past three years not a top 25 guy. I'm not critiquing them, but they are hardly being agressive about their international targets. We already know that the Yankees, Rays, Brewers and Blue Jays are blowing past their bonus limits and the Red Sox certainly look like they will as well. Likely plenty of other teams will be doing the same. This should open the game up for the Twins to do the same next year while these teams cannont sign the big targets. If the Twins don't blow past their slot bonus next year, we probably shouldn't be as content only signing the #14 ranked prospect.
  20. Well you could look at it as the moment Colabello gets it going there's a spot open for him! Not that I look at it that way.
  21. Good for him. I think that could be a victory for the whole bullpen as the Rochester relievers have been very good. Thompson, Pressly and Tonkin also would have been deserving and while Guerra, Iberra and Hoffman haven't put up quite the same numbers, they have also been very good for most the year. I would like to think May would have made it had he not been chosen for the futures game and Parmelee and Pino would have been considered but not for being on the MLB roster.
  22. Hughes walk total is impressive, but he still has nothing on Carlos Silva's 9 BB in 188 IP in 2005. Silva led the league with a 7.89 K/BB despite an awful 3.4 K/9.
  23. I thought Parmelee was the new centerfielder.
  24. This is great news. He's not a top 10 international player but he's arguably the best pitcher. When the Twins said they were unlikely to sign anyone for over $1 million, I thought any top 30 kind of guys would be off the table since the Yankees proclaimed to want to blow the bank signing guys this year. I thought many teams would follow suit, I still do, but unless Ynoa's leaving money on the table, teams may not be going as crazy as advertised. Edit: Upon further review of contracts, guys ranked below Ynoa are getting $1 million contracts so perhaps he did leave money on the table. Either that or Ynoa doesn't have the stature with front offices as he does with the prognosticators.
