  1. This just feels like a mom shopping with her young kid. No you can't have a Tulowitzki. You just begged me to buy you a Nolasco and a Santana and I told you that you wouldn't like them. Now you never want to play with them. Money doesn't grow on trees.
  2. Should have been in the second. Or he just should have recused himself as soon as he saw who was behind the plate.
  3. I think we're out of luck with West. He's such a diva he has surely planned his on field death for a high profile Yankee/Red Sox playoff game.
  4. So what your saying is that you hope it happens tonight on camera, just so his last moments could be document and celebrated throughout history.
  5. Do other teams despise Joe West as much as the Twins?
  6. I think the problem is that they thought they did, three times in the last two years actually. I don't want them signing an ace, that rarely works out for the team. I want them to develop their own, just like winning clubs do, then sign and extend him with money not already wasted on declining vets. I'd be on board with trying for Tulowitzki or Cole Hammels if this club hadn't already foolishly gave big fat deals to Mauer, Nolasco, Santana and Hughes. There's only 25 spots on the active roster, the Twins are supposed to lock up 20% of them on untradable and uncuttable aging players? It's not going to be pretty in a couple years when the team realistically should be a contender.
  7. Yeah, his perceived value is going to be high in Colorado, he's the face of their franchise. Any idea that the Twins can buy low on his is probably out of the question as the Rockies front office is going to have to deal with the aftermath.
  8. So Tulo is the ace? For anyone who wants to get one in free agency, it will absolutely not happen with Tulowitzki under contract along with Mauer, Nolasco, Santana and Hughes. Tull does not put this team over the top, don't tie up the future for 2015.
  9. Oh the follow up is easy. It's hoping the internet forgets how terrible we are at this that is the hard part: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/17062-2015-mlb-overunder-contest-win-big/ http://twinsdaily.com/topic/9673-2014-mlb-overunder-contest11-win-big/
  10. Twins Wins: 37.5 Under Mauer's OPS: .815 Under Dozier HRs: 14.5 Under Sano HRs: 9.5 Over Hicks: .350 OBP Over Sano OPS: .900 Under Hunter HR: 8.5 Under Perkins Saves: 22.5 Under Gibson ERA: 3.25 Over Santana ERA: 3.50 Over Hughes ERA: 3.75 Under Arcia PA: 150 Under Buxton PA: 150 Over Trevor May Starts: 5.5 Over Mike Pelfrey Starts: 5.5 Over Alex Meyer IP: 6.5 Under Jose Berrios IP: 15.5 Under Kurt Suzuki OPS: .600 Over RP acquired via free agency and trade: 1.5 Over Catchers acquired via trade: 0.5 Over Trevor Plouffe OPS: .775 Over Brian Duensing ERA: 3.80 Under Blaine Boyer ERA: 3.80 Super Over Casey Fien ERA: 3.80 Over Hmmmm, I wasn't expecting to be so negative. Some of those seemed pretty aggressive.
  11. Considering how often the Rockies have had to use their other middle infielders when Tulowitzki is on the shelf, there's still plenty room for Santana or Polanco. Trading for Tulowitzki would excite me for 2015 and then I'd spend the next five years filled with dread waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don't know what scares me more, having to give up one of the young top arms which this team so desperately needs, or being tied to another giant contract that may prohibit the extension of any or all of Sano, Buxton, Berrios or anyone that is deserving. I'm a big picture guy, and I can't see Tulowitzki winning this team a WS in 2015 unless he turned into an ace starter who also moonlights as a set up guy between starts. If this team is only allowed to have one glaring offensive hole, can't it be SS? The cheaper option in terms of prospects and dollars is to fix the catcher spot in the off season.
  12. I think you're underestimating the size of the prize in the conversation. If the Yankees or Red Sox had had a conversation with the Rockies about Tulowitzki's favorite flavor of ice cream it would lead off SportsCenter. Though to be fair, I check out MLBTR a ton, I haven't watched SportsCenter since about when Tulowitzki was a rookie.
  13. I think Meyer has another year of regression to go before he qualifies for a rule. He was still a top 50 prospect heading into the season, three months won't knock him down to the level of a one dimensional non-top prospect like ABW. Meyer may not be able to headline a major trade at this point, but he'd be one of the bigger pieces.
  14. And even if he does stay on the field, I can't imagine it will be at SS for long and 1B, 2B, 3B and the corner OF spots already have occupancy issues.
  15. Good scoop, but you know Jeremy, if you are looking to further your jounalistic career, you might want to consider breaking this news on something a little more high profile than Twinsdaily! Either way, we know MLBTR monitors this site, they may pick up on this and credit you.
  16. Just when we were starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with the Mauer contract...
  17. Dozier to SS, Rosario/Polanco to 2B. Will never happen, but I'd give it a shot.
  18. A forgotten Twin despite having a single season at the age of 39 that saw 37 SB vs only 7 CS and a .361 OBP, Otis Nixon. http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/3283/1916/320/nixon1.jpg Oh good lord! That's why we forgot.
  19. Any outside upgrades won't fix this problem. Simply because of two months of success, Boyer has joined Fien as a bullpen lock. After Perkins, these two are the most trusted relief arms, yet are the two guiltiest pitchers in terms of letting the ball be put in play. Outside upgrades will replace O'Rourke, Graham and May which won't fix the problem that is a lack of strikeouts, as Boyer and Fien almost surely will still be getting the ball way too much.
  20. Hicks has returned to action. He is hang with the kids in the GCL hopefully teaching them everything he has learned. No doubt he will soon return the Chattenooga, though with everyone's favorite Kraut and Kennys Vargas there, something will likely have to give. Kepler could be moved back to the OF full time, but one would think a Kepler or Vargas promotion is coming. Hicks may look at his injury and think had he not gotten hurt, it may be he who could be considered for AAA. The corner OF/IF options are plenty, the organization is going to need to start moving these guys or risk losing or worse yet, stagnating these fellas.
  21. I can't imagine a HS SS is ever a safe pick. I'd guess they bust out at a rate just behind HS catchers and HS RHP. Perhaps if they are an overall #1 type like A-Rod, but if you have a HS SS that profiles as the next superstar, I couldn't really fault a team for taking him. For the record, I wasn't too excited about Gordon, I would have preferred a couple of pitchers as much or more.
  22. Maybe it is just me, but I always thought there was a pretty clear delination in draft stratagy between 2011 and 2012. Before, it was all about obnoxiously safe picks. It seems since 2012 when they picked Buxton, who to be fair was close to a no-brainer, and Berrios who wasn't, the Twins have gone with the boom or bust types. Even the much debated drafting college reliever stratagy seems to be different than the past considering how many of them the team is trying to turn into starters. I do tend to agree that Jay was probably a safe pick, but probably because the draft was so bad. I'm always in the camp of going for upside, screw the safe picks, but my pick would have been safe-ish college arm Carson Fulmer. If not Fulmer, my 2nd choice would have been to intentionally tank the pick and get #7 in 2016.
  23. The Cubs DFA'd Edwin Jackson. He had already been kicked out of the rotation and actually had been pitching not horrible in the bullpen. There are a lot of similarities between Jackson and Ricky Nolasco; they both received large four-year deals that were second guessed from the begining. Both had a track record of being inconsistant but more usefull than not. Both had pretty decent stuff, however for some reason it rarely manifested into strikeouts. Nolasco moving to the pen next year doesn't seem hard to vision, but will the Twins have the guts to DFA him if push comes to shove eating the 12M for 2017, the 1M option year buyout and whatever is left on his 2016 contract when the time comes? Also psych to anyone who thought this thread would suggest something as awful as picking up Edwin Jackson.
  24. First cross off any reliever who can't realistically manage an 8.0 K/9.
  25. Vogt is a 30-year old catcher playing above what logic dictates he should be doing. Almost certainly he is the catcher that Beane will be looking to deal. Beane will keep Phegley around for a couple years hoping his value increases than do the same to him.
