  1. There has always been doubt about the prosecution, it's always smelled fishy, but as they already won I think the burden now shifts to the defense to prove that a new trial is warranted. I'm not sure the prosecution has to do anything at this point but provide a logical justification for why any new evidence the defense tries to present isn't valuable enough to host another circus of a trial at the cost of the taxpayers. It seems to me, motions for a new trial are rarely accepted, and they get rejected with much stronger evidence than this purports to be. I mean Dassey didn't get a retrial and they flat out proved the evidence used against him was due to illegal collaboration with the prosecution by his attorney. If I were to guess, I would bet a new trial would occur based less on this new questionable evidence but instead because of the pressure the documentary put on Hicksville Wisconsin and the backward and corrupt image it painted of them.
  2. http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/03/politics/donald-trump-john-kasich-2016-election/index.html Trump says Kasich should be forced to drop out since he's mathematically eliminated from reaching the needed number of delegates. Frankly, I could care less what's happening with this side show, I just found this quote so very amusing: "Kasich shouldn't be allowed to run. Honestly, Kasich should not be allowed to run," Trump told reporters Sunday while visiting a diner in Milwaukee, adding, "He hurts Trump much more than he hurts (Ted) Cruz." Yup, now he's referring to himself in the third person. I hope that's not a one off reference, I would love to see him keep that up. I also would enjoy if he picked Rickey Henderson as his running mate.
  3. They wanted to lock as many fans in the stadium as possible. If you've ever walked a Baltimore street, it's really for their own safety though, it's a total public service.
  4. I can think of a dozen things I would change about my 22-year-old self. Most of them self corrected due to life lessons and experience.
  5. If murderers made rational decisions, they wouldn't be murderers. We have no clue what was 12 miles away. Maybe it was a gas station and the murderer need gas for burning a body. Maybe he wanted to hide evidence but didn't know where to go and had second thoughts. Maybe he did hide the evidence but the cops found it and put it back to frame Avery. Maybe the murder decided to flee bit got cold feet. Who knows, either way her leaving alive doesn't seem as likely as only her cell phone leaving.
  6. My wife watches a lot of network drama shows so she didn't seem too upset about the cliffhanger since that stuff is pretty much standard on ABC/NBC/CBS. What's disappointing is that the show clearly puts so much effort, time and money into production of this show, even the small details, but then they waste all that good will when they do something clumsy like this. Watching the show and seeing interviews, it's clear how much the people who work on this really love their jobs and how they want it to be authentic in all aspects, so it's a shame when they make the wrong call with the script and turn people off. They could really use a voice behind the scenes to smooth out the pacing and advise on key details.
  7. As she turned up dead, I'd say it's much more likely that the murderer took her cellphone and did whatever it is that desperate and frantic murders do when they try to cover up an impulsive crime on the fly. And that's if the cellphone actually left in the first place.
  8. I just don't see how this is evidence of any kind. Why is it weird that her cellphone pinged a tower 12 miles away, and how does that even slightly suggest she left the property alive? Avery's original lawyers appeared passionate and committed, this new one sounds like she likes the spotlight for herself. Her characterizing his previous representation as lacking stinks of desperation which is going to rub off on to any "evidence" she brings forward.
  9. Yeah, visually seeing the beating would have been much more impactful after the build up of tension. It will have all gone to waste after a 6 month break. Also, how do they plan on keeping this a secret? Folks are going to notice and talk when they start seeing who is and who isn't showing up to set. I also wonder how many actors have contracts that were up after this season. Perhaps they didn't want to commit because they knew there may be some difficult negotiations to come back for the next season.
  10. I don't think anyone disputes the investigators were bad, but she didn't talk to this Arizona "sexual abuser" right before she died. She talked to Avery just before she died, she talked to the AZ guy a couple days before she died. Seriously, this looks to be a pretty clear Occam's Razor situation.
  11. I hate to imply I don't care about them winning, because I want our friends in Rochester (and Chattenooga) to watch good baseball, but I'd rather they not worry about who is the closer and instead focus on who needs the work.
  12. God forbid. I hope they put warning posters up in the men's room so everyone can pee safely.
  13. But again, we don't know that she, or her car left, even if this is reliable evidence. This is just the cellphone which the person who would have killed her could have put into his or her pocket before deciding to burn it later. If I'm the prosecutor, I simply say Avery killed her, took her cell phone, did whatever it was that was done 12 miles away (and probably much less since I'd guess you don't have to actually be standing under the tower to get a ping) and came back home to burn all the evidence, including the cell phone.
  14. Why would her cellphone pinging mean she was still alive? Couldn't it still have been pining when who ever killed her transported her body to the quarry?
  15. It's reported as forearm tightness, not forearm pain. I think we're jumping the gun here.
  16. Yeah the Republican leaders already know the end is near and the party is going to have get a serious make over. They just have to decide if they want to waive the white flag and blow it up before November by blocking Trump causing a third party to steal a good chunk of their long time support, or wait until after November by letting Trump get the nomination. If they wait until after, they may be able to pull a "See I told you so" to the Trump supporters when/if Clinton wins in a landslide. "See I told you so" might get a few of them back, or at least enough that they can still at least attempt to continue on the path they are currently on. Of course they would also run the risk of the nutjobs grabbing more momentum if it's somehow not a landslide. I think they let Trump have it and secretly hope he gets annihilated. I think that's their only hope of keeping anything close to the status quo for the party, and I think that's what the leaders care most about. Also, I think most of the party leaders think Cruz is just as bad as Trump, I don't think they'd split the party for his benefit.
  17. ******************************Spoilers************************* So, finished season 2, it was good, but they should probably cut back to 10 episodes or so, there was quite a bit of fat that could have been trimmed. So DD tossed Nobu off the roof, which kind of strays away from his/Batmans/Supermans super yawn inducing no-killing policy. Does that mean he's turned the corner? Or is the fact that Nobu somehow survive and then killed by Stick outside of DD's presence mean the writers will retroactively invalidate his willingness to kill? Because frankly, DD is a great character, but Elektra and The Punisher where much more entertaining. Also, I don't know or remember a ton about comic plots from when I was a kid, but when we kept seeing that crypt and then we saw all the blood letting with the creepy kids, I started to think we were going to get vampires, which I started to think meant we were going to get Blade. Not sure what those kids were about exactly, but I'd watch a new storyline w/ Blade in it.
  18. I don't have anything against Bloomberg, and I've stated my affinity for Warren, but at this point, I don't know how much I'd trust someone who avoided all the bloody, degrading, humiliating and highly critiqued battles, and swoops in to save the day at the last moment. And I hate the current election process.
  19. I think that would be dependent on what we heard from her in debates, because she doesn't claim to be the socialist that Sanders is and unless we heard her debating issues, I don't know that I'd agree that she is as staunchly against compromise like him. To me she seems to be what most people like about Clinton and Sanders without most of the dis-likable parts. She seems level headed with a personality, but not beholden to a special interest and a positive voting record, of course largely due to not having to vote on past deceptive issues brought to the Senate. The inexperience however appears to be a bonus these days as she would be able to use the "outsider" label as well. "Outsider" and "Watchdog" of course. Watchdog is a pretty great label to have, and that's basically the one label that everyone knows about her. I think she would have mopped the floor with everyone unless there are some skeletons we don't know about.
  20. Well did you watch this current season? This show is getting more and more unbelievable. Who would put Frank Underwood in the White House now?
  21. Put to bed? Or taken to bed Sadly and predictably, this election garbage seems to have started to run out of steam. I'm not sure what other than tabloid pot shots will float the news cycle until November. Is it just me, or has the build up totally been mis-timed. For all the bluster and media coverage, I think there's a good chance the voting public is going to be bored with the whole thing 8 months from now.
  22. Agreed. Plenty of conflicts appear to be on the justice scale adjacent to WWII at the onset. I'm speaking more to the intent than the actual action taken. And we should have plenty of points of reference now to show us what actually happens when a strongman is removed. It didn't always happen this way, so I'd grant some forgiveness for those who had good intentions a decade ago. I'd grant less forgiveness for those who think they'll get a happy outcome today. I mean, we should be learning. On a side note, as terrible of a person that Saddam Hussein was, even if ISL did still pop up, he'd be a pretty ruthless guy when it comes to fighting them, just like Stalin was pretty damn good at killing Nazis.
  23. I don't disagree, there are plenty of unethical people who surely enjoy seeing our country at war. I don't think it's fair to call out someone for enjoying war though based on votes that most people agreed with. That would go for other politicians too though, not just Clinton. Owning Halliburton or saying you want to carpet bomb civilians, well it's probably fair to say that person enjoys war. Encouraging the president to take out Mommar Gaddafi when there is an opening? I think reasonable people can agree that you don't have to like war to see some historical merit in that.
  24. I get that, and I'm sure it's the thought the front office is operating with. But it seems to me, with these guys on roster, there's a lid on the well. I understand that the counter option is to work with a very untested safety net, but I think having a roster where nearly every pitcher can only be DFA'd or rostered is asking for a long season of not seeing the young guys. Barring injury, there are not many guys the front office will replace, that's my inflexible angle. As to the last sentence, I think having a roster full of league average pitchers is probably the worst possible outcome. League average isn't good enough to win, but it's not bad enough for management to bring up the young guys. Having a staff full of 2015 Mike Pelfreys and Blaine Boyers is going to make for a bad year in terms of competing and developing.
  25. Yes. And what if the few cut-able guys aren't the problem? What if Tonkin and Abad are solid but Jepsen and Hughes are struggling? There is very little maneuverability with this pitching staff. Does anyone other than Pressly and May even have options left? I'm not saying they made the wrong decisions on the young players to start the season by sending them down, but I don't want to see them down longer than needed just because the decisions at the MLB level are too difficult. I understand why they didn't, but I wish the team would have just ripped the band-aid off of a couple of these painful decisions this spring and gotten it over with. I believe Pressly and May have one option each, if that's accurate and no one else has one remaining that would mean there are a total of two options remaining for 13 pitchers on a rebuilding team. I think this was a bit of a mis-step.
