  1. Maybe, but it always sounds to me that Bert's frustration has been masked, but is only held down by about an inch of self control and he's no more than a 12 oz beer away from having a full on cuss filled outburst on air. And man, that would be awesome.
  2. http://mcfeely.areavoices.com/2016/05/19/dick-bremer-you-cant-really-sugarcoat-things/ A local reporter in my area has Dick Bremer on his radio show on a weekly basis. In his blog he talks about how Dick and Bert present themselves on air. The humorous take away from this one is Dick being quoted as saying, "You can’t really sugarcoat it, although I’ve been accused of that from time to time" as very few people would think that Dick doesn't sugarcoat nearly every thing. However there were a few interesting bits in here. It seems while Bert mostly holds his tongue on air, he is pretty opinionated off air. Also, Dick was confronted by a player in the clubhouse about being too critical of the team on air. Dick didn't say who it was, but getting upset about criticism of the team sounds like something a vet would do, not a rookie.
  3. I don't think back spasms mean what you think it means. The first time I had them my back was locked up and I couldn't even bend at the waist for over a week. And I was a healthy and active 16-year-old. And they've only gotten worse when they occur as I've gotten older.
  4. I would also bet the Twins value starts to increase substantially when they start drawing closer to the expiration of their God-awful TV deal. It would be nice to have new ownership in place once the Twins start benefiting from the windfall of that new revenue.
  5. I agree. Industry-wide people view the Twins system favorably, so either everyone is wrong, or the Twins just don't know what do with our how to use the talent they have.
  6. Sheer dumb luck should cause at least one or two of these guys to play well, but we aren't seeing anything. Something intangible is at play here. I want to see the young guys, but there's something toxic in that clubhouse, and until wholesale changes are made, I might be in favor of sending them all down so whatever it is doesn't contaminate them permenantly. It might not be fair, but they need to clean house simply to try to bleach away this losing environment. Molitor has handled himself well, but he's clearly dejected and he sounds beaten, and surely all front office and field staff are. Even if they are putting up an honorably encouraging front, it's not working. The Pohlads have to get that negativity away from the young players. Not all business decisions are fair.
  7. It would be hard to compete in today's game though if he deported all of his Latin players.
  8. From Jeffery Todd's Q&A at MLBTR: Matt 3:01 "There aren't many teams that would stick with a GM for two decades of .474 baseball and zero playoff success. There aren't many markets in which that GM and his longtime front office assistants would receive little criticism and tons of praise for producing 11 losing seasons in 18 years." - A recent article about Terry Ryan and the Minnesota Twins. how to fix the minnesota twins? Jeffrey Todd 3:02 Ouch. Well, you have to wonder whether ownership is pleased that he's managing things the way it wants and helping make the team money, rather than fretting over his W-L record. Alright, which one of you guys is Matt? Todd's take as an assumed impartial outsider is interesting.
  9. My only concern is that most projections are for the Wolves to get better perimeter shooting AND upgrade Lavine's spot. But Lavine is currently the team's best outside shooter. If hitting more threes is the goal, shouldn't they be addressing the one or the three spot? Sending your second best outside threat to the bench makes little sense to me.
  10. I get the joke and completely agree that they were negligent in fielding a roster that can get on base, but if laymen like us know that, surely they do too, even if it came too late. Taking a flier on a guy with strong on base skills, something this club desperately needs, is likely a sign that they want to fix it. But again, I'm not a Grossman fan and I want wholesale organizational changes. I just feel it's only fair to point out this move may very well be based on the idea that they DO understand their flaws. Even if this crew is ultimately unable to fix it.
  11. Former Astros top prospect. Released by the club at only 25. Corner OF. Modest minor league power but excellent on base skills at all levels. Middle name Felix. One of those is false.
  12. I really want nothing to do with Ribbie Grossman, but there are more than a few similarities to J.D. Martinez. Just tossing it out there, cannibalize away.
  13. I'm not saying it's fair, but I think there's a fairly good chance Molitor has lost the clubhouse. It took Gardy over a decade, and even if we as fans wanted him replaced, there really wasn't anything he did that would be considered fire-able. It might not be fair, but it looks to me like Molitor is at that point in just over a year. There's generally only two options to fix that, and option #2, firing all the players, isn't plausible and will never happen.
  14. Just don't let them take away that long stride, I like it.
  15. I'm one level away from being Randy Quaid in Independence Day. Right into Target Field.
  16. Remember a couple years ago how everyone got upset when Dave St. Peter implied that the 25th man on the roster didn't make much of a difference? Well Michael Tonkin was the 25th guy and he has been the only awesome thing about this team, yet he clearly hasn't made a difference, because this team still stinks. Sooooo, I think everyone owes DSP an apology, he was totally right.
  17. If you doubt this team couldn't find a way to lose a run, I think you have vastly overunderrated them.
  18. Don't jinx it, the game's not over yet.
  19. I assume the omission of Inver Grove Heights was simply an oversight?
  20. I'm surprised there aren't more watery eyes in that dugout. Danny, are you crying?! There's no crying in baseball!!!!
  21. Not pulling starters ridiculously early and taxing an already terrible bullpen. Not pinch running for your best players late in the game when the odds of that player batting again are much higher than the odds of the increased speed actually making a difference. Pinch hit for a poor hitting catcher late in games. Call for fewer bunts in clear non-bunting situations. Give Tonkin or whoever the current hot hand is the closer job instead of making Jepsen the de facto closer. Not waiting a month to remove Dozier from the top of the lineup. Not waiting a month and a half to move up Park in the batting order. Not sitting the young players when they need playing time. Just off the top of my head. I put more blame on Ryan as well, but Molitor has not done a very good job.
  22. And inserted directly into the closer role, whether the manager is comfortable with it or not.
  23. I am in the camp of making wholesale changes, and wholesale changes just aren't plausible to make in-season. While I wouldn't be against firing Molitor now, if it happens, rightfully or wrongfully, I think plenty of people are going to interpret it as a defensive move by the front office trying to deflect blame from themselves. We heard a lot of those comments after Gardy got the axe and Ryan stayed. On the other hand, if no drastic off-season changes are made, giving Gene Glynn the job now would be about the best chance to get an honest to goodness evaluation of a guy who may be pretty good candidate. Though again, I do not want this organization to continue with the in-house promotions.
  24. Interesting. Just checking in, but only 8 pages of game thread in the 8th? Looks like apathy has set in. In May.
  25. Hard to tell. This just in: Every ballplayer on the Red Wings roster has retired in unison. Reports are unclear if it is due David Murphy's hypnotic suggestion to follow his lead or the players fear that they may be depromoted to Minnesota.
