  2. Any and every team will want to do #2, but it's not possible. If Ervin Santana was a free agent, he'd probably be overwhelmingly viewed as the top target except for those teams that are confident in 37-year-old Rich Hill.
  3. If this team gets an analytically inclined GM, he or she better be analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of players from a numbers standpoint. If Pohlad has his say about the 2017 field staff, the manager sure isn't going to do it. What good is it going to this team to modernize the front office if the field staff won't implement their ideas?
  4. I want a new GM to come in here and tell Kyle Gibson that his sinker isn't as good as he thinks it is, so stop throwing it with two strikes.
  5. I agree. We wouldn't need a new GM to ride with those options. People like to say you don't change just for the sake of changing. In this case I think you do. Blow it up, try different pieces and see what sticks until you get it right.
  6. You got the last name right. The first name is Joaquin though. But I think you've confused this with that other baseball show, because the previews I've seen were about a slim young female pitcher, not a chubby reliever closing in on 40.
  7. They have an award for the best pitcher, they really need to make one solely and implicitly for the best hitter. The MVP award does not dictate that it is for the best hitter. One additional high profile award would stop this yearly contentiousness among fans and sportswriters.
  8. I'd hold off on that until we can definitively say we know how Vargas feels about sacrifice bunts in the 3rd inning. I haven't seen any comments from him on that subject yet. If he's against it, yeah, I'd consider him as a player manager.
  9. What did they think would happen post trade? Did the Padres really think they could get the guys they just traded to tell their new team that their hamstring injury happened just now as I got off of the plane! So stupid. I so wish this had been the White Sox instead.
  10. Ha, that is awful! The Padres should and probably will get penalized back to the Stone Age. The commissioner's office will have no choice if they wish to prevent other clubs from doing this. I think AJ Preller is about to become available for the POBO gig. Who's interested?
  11. You must have stopped listening before he said he had plans to invade and plunder Ireland.
  12. I completely disagree with his Picollo over McLeod take. It was still a good article.
  13. If the GM's are pulling out because they see the Twins as cheap ***** Note, this is a hypothetical take ***** how would the team being too cheap to pay players be any more damning than them being too cheap to buy out a manager?
  14. The Russians are lefties?!
  15. The same opinion has been shared on this site hundreds of times before Reusse published it. I don't generally like Reusse's knee-jerk ranting, but that one was well written and absent of fire and brimstone. Also, being wrong about Danny Santana shouldn't disqualify anyone from having a meaningful take on baseball.
  16. Trump takes umbrage with the slightest offense, you don't really think he's going to let the RNC make policies and decisions for him after he spent the past two years embarrassing them at every turn and rubbing their nose in the fact that the conservative supporters chose him over the party itself? First time Pence says something contradictory or different than what Trump wants, Trump would be looking for a new VP. If he somehow won, Pence would almost surely be the most neutered VP ever.
  17. That was a pretty restrained piece by Reusse, it was a good read. Also, Reusse did at one point seem to indicate that Pohlad may be hanging on to Molitor because of the misguided notion that Molitor is a net positive with the fans/attendance. If that is the case, and not because Molitor is a family friend/business partner, and/or Pohlad doesn't want to pay the buyout, then there may be hope that Pohlad sees data showing Molitor moves the needle zero amount and changes his mind. Also, not sure about the Picollo/McLeod take. Yes, McLeod comes from organizations with big pockets, but he's known for his scouting acumen. It has actually been Picollo's Royals who built their club through trades and free agents, KC has no superstars and only a couple of OK players to show for their two decades of high draft picks.
  18. If Trump wins, and I still think there's no way he will, I just hope his supporters admit they voted for him and hold themselves accountable afterwords once everything starts falling apart. I have a feeling it would be like segregation though. "What, me?! No I never supported that?"
  19. Dang, Cherington wasn't employed by a MLB team at that time so he wasn't listed in any media guides. Seriously though, Pohlad and St Peter can't afford any more mis-steps in this process or the new people who are brought in may viewed with more skepticism than hope, and I sure don't want that. This change is supposed to unite us in optimism.
  20. So Cherington is taking a VP job in Toronto. Were the Twins not asking him to interview for the POBO job, or is being second in command in Toronto more attractive to being the top dog in Minnesota?
  21. Are the Silver Slugger Award voters using wRC and WAR to determine this stuff? I really don't know, I haven't followed the award in a long time, it just used to go to the best power hitting player at each position. They used to look at HR and RBI totals and then if it was close, they'd go back and look at the HRs again. Unless this is the one award that has changed with the times, I'd think there's a good chance Dozier may be ahead of Altuve.
  22. Narcos season 2 came out. The first season was good, but the "good guys" were probably quite a bit more "good" than history would suggest they actually were. In season 2 "good vs bad" is much less obvious. Which is "good". The only trailer I saw for McGuyver looked pretty terrible to me. You guy's will have to let me know if it's not. I haven't watched a network series drama for quite awhile. Again, let me know if they stop failing to disappoint. I've been spoiled by the quality of cable, and I guess I have turned into a TV snob.
  23. And while Jack is a friend of the site, posting respectfully is a requirement here and thus the other men listed above deserve the same consideration, whether posters approve of their jobs or not. And aside from Anthony, and perhaps Deron Johnson, there is probably next to no information we as fans have that would indicate how any of them perform at their jobs.
  24. I hope it's not a duet:
  25. Good point on the first paragraph. Even if we as fans don't buy the idea that these guys won't interview for "personal reasons", perhaps there are some. And I really don't want to be negative as we are finally getting a change as we requested, but when we've already heard "no" from the first two guys the TD fan base brainstormed, a sense of worry is inevitable.
