  1. Try this. http://www.sbnation.com/2011/12/2/2604446/rafael-palmeiro-1999-gold-glove Basically the only conclusion the author could come up with, was that the voters didn't realize he didn't play in the field that year and just voted for him based on assumption and past reputation. I'd also venture it's possible the Russians hacked the GG voting that year. Also funny enough, to find that old article I did google Rafael Palmeiro and "Gold Glove" was the third drop down choice, just as referenced in the article.
  2. if adamant is the correct adjective for that sentence, I am definitely curious to find out more about that. I would have assumed Molitor was involved with choosing his first 1st coach.
  3. Kidnapping jokes are the best!
  4. First, I'm guessing you have not seen this video. Second, no video evidence of rape does not mean the absence of rape. I'm not saying it wasn't all on the up and up, but you're making assumptions likely based on hearsay from parties with a vested interest in the outcome.
  5. Right, obviously the strategy really should have no impact with pick 1-1. Unless someone like Bukauskas is clearly the best player but there are hesitations about his height. Not that I think he's the best player or even best pitcher.
  6. Well only because Urias and De Leon will have graduated.
  7. I forget who did the study a couple years ago, but the results showed that right-handers under 6'2" where typically the best bargains in the draft. It seemed the true risk associated with their height was not anywhere close to the perceived risk. The study was based on MLB results. I remember that read from prior to the Tyler Jay/Carson Fulmer draft. Of course at 1-1 the Twins probably shouldn't be looking for bargains.
  8. Well, we'll just have to wait until June 10th.
  9. Forsythe appears to be a lesser 2B defensively, but I'm not sure if the difference is a huge deal. Offensively Dozier looks pretty superior though over the past three years, even if only using the past two years. I wonder what Freidman's feelings about dealing with his former team would be. Surely there would be some added incentive not to "lose" that trade.
  10. I'm hoping we see Berrios at the MLB level. However after Neil Allen's fairly scathing assessment of the organization's lack of vision and in particular their lack of enforcement of the young guys commanding their pitches, I think we may see a lot of pitchers go back a level and get remedial work. I hope it doesn't happen, but I won't be shocked if we actually see a couple of the guys in AA we were hoping to see soon actually go back to get extra attention with the instructors in Ft Myers. If the front office didn't take Allen's organizational denouncement and the pitching plan he created as a result seriously, I just can't see any other reason that they would have retained him.
  11. If Falvey is putting his rotation together based on his experiences in Cleveland, one would have to think May will be in the rotation and Hughes in the pen. Cleveland appears to value velocity and an assortment of pitches from it's starters; most of them have an average velocity over 92MPH and/or regularly use four different pitches. Hughes 89 MPH FB and three pitch repertoire doesn't look like what Cleveland does. On the other hand May can meet both of those criteria.
  12. Agreed, perhaps it's a "you'd have to be there to understand" kind of situation for us. For those of us who want to see May get another shot at starting, this news can't hurt though. On a related note, I think Phil Hughes would be considered a veteran. Just saying.
  13. The one that always gets me is that London is further north than Winnipeg.
  14. Confusing for sure. I understand in Canada night is about four months long this time of year?
  15. Plus it's not like it would be that much of a long shot that either Kazmir or McCarthy would end up being one of the team's five best options for starters.
  16. Oh I tend to agree with his assessment of Dozier's worth. I'll just be disappointed if the Twins don't get more than his worth considering every other trade these days seems to be an overpay by the buyer.
  17. Then come back and get this legacy pick at 35 perhaps. Mark's kid is Dalton and is in the top 50. Both Gators too!
  18. Considering most recent trades have had the feeling of the buying team giving up "too much" I think I'm going to be disappointed if the Dodgers or which ever team ends up swinging this trade only has to give up the "right" amount.
  19. All I ask is that the choice is a once-in-a-decade clear no-brainer, he's willing to go under slot and he isn't represented by Scott Boras. Not a deal breaker, but I'd also prefer that he's able to catch and play SS and pitch with either arm.
  20. That's true, but that's no different than with free agency. At least now the top 10 players from Cuba can't all go to the Dodgers because they won't have the cap room.
  21. Right, this issue has been dealt with in the form of the new international signing rules, too bad for him it happened a year late, but it has been addressed. However I think it's presumptuous for him to assume he would have gotten the $4M (his $2M contract + the $2M tax the Astros paid for going over their signing pool). The Astros may have seen that extra $2M tax as the price of doing business but may not have given it to the player if that wasn't what they valued him at. Still wish there would have been a draft with draft pools similar to the Rule 4 pools.
  22. A high tide floats all boats. The MLBPA wants any and all contracts to be high as it always helps the players when negotiating new deals via free agency or likely in this case arbitration. Except for those 25-year-old scrubs down in A ball with a wife and young child who likely will never get to the MLB. Screw those guys, they should be happy to play for way less than minimum wage. No need to try to help them with the new CBA.
  23. Does Alan Thicke count as a musician? He wrote lots of TV theme songs. Only 69
