  1. I must not have been paying attention, I hadn't heard about this event. Not that I would have been able to go, but I would have been able to feel sorry for myself that I couldn't. If someone starts a thread about the event here on TD if it occurs again, I'd bet there'd be some pretty strong TD attendance. Not sure if that's a good thing though, you guys are pretty rowdy.
  2. I'm then sure he brought up his small market concerns when reporting on trades or free agent moves involving CC Sabbathia, Cliff Lee, Victor Martinez, Carlos Beltran, Yoenis Cespedes, Johnny Cueto, Aroldis Chapman, David Price and Matt Holiday as well.
  3. Yeah, that was what I was getting at.
  4. I watched Torii Hunter play RF at Target Field just fine after we had to have crisis management sessions here at Twins Daily because he'd probably lose the team 100 games on his own. His range isn't good but his arm is average, he'd be fine. We could stick one of our many pitchforks in the turf halfway between the dirt and the wall, stick a glove on the handle and name it Jason Kubel and we'd be fine in right field.
  5. I'm not going to be upset either way, but it's likely only a 2nd round pick in name only. With their pool they could sign another first rounder who only fell because other teams couldn't meet his asking price. Like Lance McCullers, Joey Wentz, Sean Manea or Daz Cameron.
  6. Well except for the small market bit. That part sounded more like Rosenthal pulling demerits out of his butt and pretending like they are commonly used criteria in trade discussions. Has a team or free agent EVER taken a discount because of market size? Rosenthal expects the Twins to set and accept that precedent? That was bad journalism.
  7. I'm not sure if Friedman said those things or if that's just Rosenthal being a shill for them, publicly discounting Dozier to their benefit.. If Friedman did say that stuff I hope Falvey asked Friedman if he took a discount coming from Tampa. Being a small market and all.
  8. Man you're an optimist! We had two men on base?!
  9. Is it the 2nd round pick, or is it the comp round pick the team gives up? People were interested in the Braves as a Dozier trade match because they had all the pitching depth. They got Anderson, Wentz and Muller, last year, all hard-to-sign HS arms because they had a massive draft pool.
  10. So are we blaming the old front office or the new front office then? I'm more inclined to blame Altuve, Cano, Kinsler, Kipnis, Pedroia, Murphy, Odor, Schoop and Zobrist for playing so well that nearly every single contending team has no need for a 2B That is if I were inclined to blame anyone, but I don't because blame is ridiculous in a situation like this.
  11. I don't, I think the Twins are snakebit. They are in possession of and in position to deal a top player about once a decade and keep finding themselves with too few bidders willing to give a fair return. I'm just trying to say if the Dodgers aren't offering reasonable value it's hard to blame the front office.
  12. No, it's just that we don't know what's being offered. What we do know is there likely is few if no other bidders so really, the Dodgers likely ARE lowballing the Twins. I know how upset Twins fans would be if we overpaid or even offered market value if the roles were reversed.
  13. #2 is tempting, but it really does seem like it would be better "forever". I'm not sure if that one would make a person lazy to the point of useless or clinically dead.
  14. And what if the Dodgers weren't offering anything that would induce major positive changes for the Twins?
  15. Personally I'm not sure that I'm interested at all. I'm not so opposed to giving up a draft pick, but I don't like the idea of losing the money that goes with it. I am really looking forward to seeing if our new crew is able to manipulate the draft as they have more money than any other team. It would be fun to watch vintage Bautista crushing balls out of TF though. Not that I think it would make a huge difference on the W/L, assuming there isn't major upgrades to the rotation and pen also.
  16. So I want to say the lede was buried on the MLBTR write up for the Twins, (I'm not even linking it, don't pretend you didn't go there first!) but I guess Brian Dozier still gets top billing around here and he probably should. However the Twins have talked to Bautista's reps? Probably just doing due diligence or perhaps is some negotiating ploy. Either way, seems a bit out of left-field (probably right-field actually or DH) to say the least. http://m.twins.mlb.com/news/article/213152402/twins-could-keep-brian-dozier-seek-free-agent/ So in the unlikely situation where Dozier is retained and Bautista is signed, what's the lineup? The three biggest power threats are Dozier, Bautista and Sano, all righties. Does Dozier find himself back at the top of the lineup again? Does Mauer somehow find himself remaining in the heart of the lineup due to a lack of left-handedness? Neither of those options tend to sit will with folks around here.
  17. Right, I don't want the Twins turning down a fair deal (which really, we probably all have different definitions of fair). My thinking has just always been that the Twins would almost certainly get less for him at the deadline, let's throw out 75% of his value as it stands now as a hypothetical. Well if the Dodgers are at this moment only offering 75% of his current value, then it doesn't bother me to try again later this summer and hope for better. If the Dodgers are currently offering 100% of Dozier's value and the Twins are holding out for 125%, well then they're just nuts.
  18. I hadn't planned on posting on the subject, but an old friend of mine was a few rows back of this guy on the plane and the subject just keeps popping back into my mind. After getting his luggage from the carousel my friend saw the guy walking to the bathroom with a small case, which turned out to be the gun case. He was outside waiting for his shuttle when everything happened. It's hard not to constantly think about how unfortunate everything would have been for him had his luggage not been some of the first to come out. My luggage almost always seems to be among the last to come out.
  19. OK, next hypothetical: Would you rather discuss Van's terrible hypothetical or think up one yourself for us all to laugh at? Also, that wasn't hypothetical.
  20. This is at least the second time we've heard this, (or maybe it was Longenhagen who just said this twice). I wonder what his basis is for this prediction. Does he know something about the Twins new guys in charge, or is there just a weird perception that new guys should or would play it safe? Because it seems to me new guys are more likely to do the opposite of the old guys.
  21. It would seem to me that basketball would be the one sport where athletic ability would be far and away more important than experience. It makes no sense to me but maybe there's something about having crafty veterans. It doesn't seem to matter in college though, a team of more athletic freshman beat more experienced senior led teams all the time.
  22. Well now you're going to have to explain it to me, I don't see the correlation.
  23. As a fan of a team that was continually contending for a decade and still followed that philosophy religiously, I'll just say I hope it works out better for you than it did for us.
