  1. Yeah, might not be a bad idea to target another young QB in the draft.
  2. Does the ATM next to the black jack table count?
  3. What moves were there to make? The free agent class was awful. If you're still grousing about the Twins not taking the low-ball De Leon offer, well then it's only fair to play your ERA game with him as well. His ERA was also terrible last year. Sorry, but some problems do not have immediate solutions.
  4. Today is World-Wide Punch a Nazi day. Though full-disclosure according to most news outlets, Punch a Nazi day is every day now. http://www.feministe.us/blog/archives/2017/01/26/why-im-ok-with-punching-Nazis/ https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/21/us/politics/richard-spencer-punched-attack.html?_r=0 http://www.rawstory.com/2017/01/is-it-ok-to-punch-a-nazi-leading-ethicists-weigh-in/ So Hurrah!
  5. Here's 2016's bonus pool: http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2016-mlb-draft-international-bonus-pools/#3bAHm8QRhpt2BZyL.97 It doesn't look like the total pools have been reduced, just the slots for the guys at the top, so it does look like there is about the same amount of money to go around, but it just can't as easily be hogged by the top guys.
  6. The Twins already have one sinkerballer in the rotation.
  7. Smart move. Now that he's a politician they call that kind of convincing "campaign contributions" not bribes.
  8. The math doesn't have to be exact for me to get excited as this is what I was hoping for. A 2M discount with these lower pools might be a bit steep for the 1st overall pick, but I'm still pretty confident the that if the Twins are smart, they can offer top 10-15 money to someone at pick #35. I can't wait, the Twins can be the jerks of the draft if they choose. And I so hope they choose to be jerks!
  9. Not that joke in particular, but let us know, we might have to delete the whole Sports Bar Forum to protect you from your past!
  10. What do we need a State Department for now? I thought it was clear that we're losing all contact with the rest of the world for the next four years.
  11. You're just saying that because he was a murderer and was proud of it.
  12. I'd also imagine that bad teams are perhaps more likely to sign bad free agents.
  13. Perhaps even De Leon's mother as well. He certainly is hyping him as some kind of can't miss elite arm.
  14. ***** Moderator Note ****** Let's keep this one on topic, like many of you surely were, I was suprised when I scrolled to the top of the page I saw this was actually an article about Jorge Polanco and the shortstop position. Let's take the same rehashed Brian Dozier stuff back to one of the dozen threads we already have on that subject.
  15. I think you're mistaken, Rick Knapp was the Dodgers minor league pitching coordinator, he's the one talking and he has no affiliation with the Twins. He references Jeff Pickler who the Twins hired from the Dodgers, but Pickler was not interviewed for this article. It's simply a Minnesota reporter talking to a former Dodger employee, this isn't anyone from the Twins talking.
  16. You need to stop working in absolutes. I clearly did not when I said the article did not make a 1:1 deal a fact; however it is a possibility and these arguments could be avoided if at some point you acknowledge that your position is in fact, not a fact. No one is saying there is a villain, certainly not me. For the record, I would guess the Dodgers offered another, though minimal piece. But that's a guess which is all any of us have at this point.
  17. Eh, OK I guess. His strikeout rate with the Cubs is a mirage, his AL K numbers aren't great for a reliever. I wouldn't have a ton of confidence in a guy who just got his WS ring and then jumps to the more difficult league for pitchers. Also, a bullpen guy who throws 88 MPH will always have me waiting for the other shoe to drop. I guess if it's for one year and our new front office has less patience with under-achieving vets I don't care. As long as it doesn't cost Chargois a job out of spring training.
  18. Righty, I already forgot the Twins hired Jeff Pickler from the Dodgers, he probably knew more about the Dodgers prospects than anyone. Now I wouldn't present a report like this as fact, but both Berardino and Rick Knapp seem to believe the deal was 1:1.
  19. You can usually play that game every year; I was looking back through the 2014 draft thread the other day, a few guys wanted Turner, but Gordon was most people's choice. But if Gordon ended up being one of the top five shortstops in team history, I don't think disappointed is a very fair feeling.
  20. It has been your insistence on characterizing a non-move as fear to try to better position your argument; you're using an inflammatory trigger word in an attempt to justify your minority opinion.
  21. Everyone but Dave Cameron seems to agree that taking the offer is a bad deal. But according to this post that's not even relevant because if the Twins say no to a bad deal, they're afraid. So if all the Dodgers offered was Gavin Lux and the Twins said no, that makes them afraid. My fear of missing out on De Leon borders on apathy.
  22. You clearly fear coming out of this situation and getting less or getting nothing. I don't fear that, and obviously neither does the front office. No one is saying they can deal him later, we are saying we can try to deal him later. Maybe we can't, but so what, all we lose out on is De Leon, that isn't something I fear.
  23. You were upset about them not having values put on their own assets. Regardless if it is outside players, the team should know the value of their own first as they're going to have use them to get new players or at least dump some to free up roster spots.
  24. I remember looking for comps too and coming up empty, which to be fair was probably what I was hoping to find since I was actively looking for validation in my opinion of Stewart. I think at this point the only hope is that he is an outlier, I'm skeptical but I do have some hope that he is just that. After all Klaw even implied that Stewart has to start using his other pitches to put guys away instead of his sinker. The Twins already have Kyle Gibson who has self professed to doing the exact same thing, perhaps the outlier is actually the old Twins regime's pitching philosophy. Anyway, that's the only real hope that I'm clinging to with Stewart.
