  1. I think as Twins fans everybody kind of pointed to Miguel's contract and said that's good now but it's going to be brutal at the back end; he doesn't look to have the type of body to hold up into his late 30's and beyond. Now that the Tigers are nowhere near a contender, I'm actually kind of bummed. I always liked Cabrera as a player and was/am hoping that he'll end up putting up career numbers to put him with the game's all time elite.
  2. They haven't been given the chance to take the heat. If Belisle was brought in because they needed his "leadership" that doesn't speak too well of Rodney, Reed and Duke.
  3. Well he's certainly old enough. I think that's him there second in from the left.
  4. Yeah, but if they're looking for a diamond in the rough it seems more likely it would come from the stable of Busenitz, Curtis, Reed, Bard, Moya or Mejia. Guys who have better velocity, better movement and a decade and a half fewer innings on their arm.
  5. The diehard fans surely don't. But if the owners are smart, they surely would. Diehard fans tend to dislike change but change is always necessary. Sports are not immune to Darwinism.
  6. MLBTR got the info from Berardino's tweet: And Jon Heyman's: I'd much rather go back to Busenitz or Curtis and I'd really like to finally give Bard and Reed a look. I have no problem adding another lefty either, Moya and Mejia could get another shot also. I really hope this is a minor league deal, but it sure happened fast. I don't know that a vet like Belisle jumps on another minor league deal that quickly. His release from Cleveland was just announced 2 hours ago.
  7. I'm all about getting the able-bodied young guys' feet wet in a losing season. Most of them don't come in a light the world on fire their first time around, better to take their lumps now than next year right? It's not like it's waiving the white flag when the guys who would be replaced are already taking lumps too.
  8. Seems like that's a pretty big red flag. Especially if the game is now two generations behind the demographics. All I know is baseball already has us TD posters watching, so it would be foolish to ask our opinion on how to fix the game. They need to start asking people who don't watch what they need to do.
  9. Wouldn't that make the White Sox a contender than too? I wouldn't argue that the Twins are absolutely a lost cause this year, but I think they are a contender only by the most dubious standards. I'll start taking them seriously again once they make the playoffs with a game in their home ballpark and they aren't a clear underdog.
  10. I love the strikeouts, all the innings pitched are great, his demeanor on the mound is fantastic. But the best part about him is that as of late he is a Mark Buehrle fashioned wizard. Game time: 6/1: 2:39 5/27: 2:18 5/21: 2:35 5/15: 2:24 I think he wrapped up today's game start-to-finish over my lunch break.
  11. Romero got called up much sooner than we expected while the supposedly more polished Gonsalves still hasn't had his look. I think this new front office is very open to rapid advancements for guys with great stuff.
  12. Yeah, he's probably right this moment realizing that he's blowing his best shot at getting traded away from the White Sox.
  13. Yeah, can't give the pitcher a free pass. Edit: Sorry, I was just looking at the OPS of both team's #9 hitter, I thought this was an NL game. My mistake.
  14. That award typically goes to the manager of the most surprising team. And the Twins were only surprising because of how terribly they played under him the previous year.
  15. I don't think any of us calling for him to be replaced are doing so based off of the recent on-field issues. We've been pretty steadfast in our wishes for a long time. I don't think it's a pitchfork situation if we've been saying they picked the wrong guy from the start.
  16. These guys certainly are all long shots on Day 3, but a ten year history is really only a seven year history or so because no player from any round has made the MLB team from the past three drafts. If you go from 2005-2014 you get to add Valnecia, Manship, Slama, Burnett, Tosoni. Day 3 picks seem to average about one MLB player a year. Not to speak of the quality of that player.
  17. Garver and Wilson in the same lineup?! See, I'm torn about that because I really hate the illogical fear of losing the DH spot. "Oh no, there's a 1 in 200 chance the pitcher will have to get an at bat!" On the other hand, we're talking about Garver and Wilson, not Mauer and Redmond.
  18. He may not be the main problem, but he is a problem and that problem is one of the easiest fixes if sentimentality is removed from the decision. The season might be over, but we've see plenty of teams finally get a fire lit under them when their manager gets canned mid-season. Particularly when it's perceived as an unfair firing to the players.
  19. I do think that most of us on the 'Replace Gardy' bandwagon were also on the 'Do not hire from within the country club' bandwagon also.
  20. The game was 2-1 when I went up to put the kids to bed. Might as well go out myself to bed now I guess.
  21. Can't wait until we get robo umps and they only have to concentrate on hitting.
  22. Cody's last two appearances have come in the first inning going three innings both times. Overall his permanent promotion to Chattanooga has been a success. In 12 appearances he has pitched 23 and 1/3 innings with a 2.70 ERA and striking out 11.6 per 9. He's issued a few more free passes than in years past but he's also limiting balls put in play. His ability to miss bats and his multi-inning profile may soon find him on the map of possible MLB bullpen options.
