  1. I thought that after the trade deadline, but not now after the ownership is (unfortunately) resolved. Surely by coincidence 😒MLB made the A's bump up their payroll after finally leaving Oakland. They'll certainly do the same to Tampa once that's resolved. The Twins ownership drama didn't drag out as long as those two situations, but the other owners are NOT going to be happy if the Twins, who are solidly in a mid market, not small market, start rolling with a sub 100M payroll while rolling in the other owners' revenue sharing handouts. And those other owners still have to approve the Twins two new hedge fund investors. There's probably little chance those investors will get approved ensuring the Pohlad's stay in the league, if they know the Pohlad's will continue to use the Twins to funnel their free MLB money into their failing real estate businesses. I'll bet 100M is going to be the magic number, and they'll need Lopez to hit that. And maybe they'll have to give Ryan and unnecessary extension to make it too.
  2. He does have exciting stuff; I really hope the Twins know what they are doing with him though. Lots of players with this injury profile can't make it as a starter, so the Twins need to be pretty confident he's capable because it would be a shame for Prielipp if further starter-related injuries derails what could otherwise have been an top end relief career.
  3. I doubt Phillips had any say in it, but Aaron Glenn is certainly familiar. OK, so the Vikings are paying 7.5M this year and the Jets are on the hook for the rest of the contract. Also, it looks like his cap hit was 4.2M if they cut him after the season. So the Vikings are paying 3.3M extra now when they have the money to improve the cap situation next season. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/25195/harrison-phillips Still, it's surprising considering this team has focused on beefing up the defense the past two off seasons, so I wonder if the main motivation is much simpler than that; he's 300 pounds and almost a 30-year-old man, maybe during camp it looked like time finally caught up to him.
  4. There is one qualified pitcher with a higher rate than that this year but Devin Williams pairs that with an excellent K%.. 11.9% is a terrible BB rate, Not going to work. And I don’t know why you spend the effort trying to fix a guy who gives up too many free passes and can’t strike anyone out, when there are guys just as cheap and much younger, that you only have to fix one of those areas.
  5. Right, well which category do you think a pitcher with a 17% walk rate falls into?
  6. Yeah, I think Pete Carroll's floor is an average but competent team. But he won't be there long so they can revert back to the dysfunctional Raiders in a few years. I'd also throw the Saints, Cowboys, Cardinals, Dolphins and Titans into the poorly run teams. I'd also put the Steelers in a not-poorly-run-but-too-stubborn-to-truly-compete category. My money is on Mike Vrabel and the Patriots also falling into that category. Also, controversial take here, but despite the high flying offense, Dan Campbell and the Lions could find this tier sooner rather than later too. I might take the Jags off the list since they finally removed their clown of a GM, but that's still a ton of teams that you can count on never amounting to much as long as current decision makers are place.
  7. Cheap relievers grow on trees though. And there's plenty who aren't going to walk the bases loaded.
  8. His calling card was supposed to be his high contact rate and elite on base skills. Meanwhile he has a !!!.288!!! OBP. This is 100% a legit concern and article worthy.
  9. Nice article and it's a great story. Easy to cheer for a guy who's battled back from the Asian leagues. However I'm skeptical he'll be on the 40-man come spring training. The Twins have done well with adding velocity and pitch mixes, but like every club in the history of the game, trying to fix a pitchers command and control is usually a futile effort.
  10. While it likely wasn't a tough competition, Daniel Jones won the Colts starting QB job over Anthony Richardson. Have to think Jones will get a long leash too because the guys who picked Richardson are still there and have now benched him three times. Their jobs almost certainly will depend on Daniel Jones playing the best football of his career. And fair or not, with the current league-wide narrative, if Jones does play well, I would about guarantee everyone is going to give KOC the credit, not the Colts. With only a few months together everyone should probably re-consider that narrative, but it definitely would be advantageous to the Vikings as it should help them attract the top back up QBs going forward.
  11. As excited as I am for McCarthy, I think in year one his target distribution is going to be too small to maximize the productivity of a ton of weapons. And then you'll have Hill and Addison publicly whining about not getting targeted enough. If McCarthy looks good this year though, I'd definitely go that route in year 2. Or even use another top pick on another stud WR.
  12. These high contact guys hardly ever flame out league-wide; tons don't have a high ceiling, but most have a reasonable floor. Teaching a guy when NOT to swing has to be so much easier than teaching a guy how to make contact. I really think a lot of this is a Twins-specific instructional and educational issue at the MLB level.
  13. I've never heard of that. It would fit with how deep they are into the red in 2026 though.
  14. I imagine Nailor is going to be ahead of anyone they trade for. It's likely going to be a roster bubble player. But what I'm seeing is the Vikings have 26M in salary cap space. Next year they are in trouble but a 1-year deal of any kind shouldn't impact that.
  15. Per Tom Pelissero, the Vikings unsurprisingly are looking for a WR trade: https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-vikings-exploring-trade-options-at-wide-receiver This is way too late in my book. Adam Theilen is the only one who makes sense, not because I'd like a reunion, but there's not enough time for a new guy to get up to speed. Everyone knew Addison was going to be suspended, if they were going to bring someone in, why didn't they sign Amari Cooper or Gabe Davis or someone two months ago?
  16. Why is Wallner batting 9th? Yeah we get it, the horror of a left handed hitter facing a left handed pitcher! NOOOOOOOOOOO! But Larnach is batting 3rd and Wallner actually has reverse splits this year.
  17. I had Abel in mind, but both have made more MLB starts than Ryan ever did. If I was to try to rationalize all of the Twins illogical behavior, I'm not sure this makes the top ten list.
  18. We were all clamoring to see Joe Ryan immediately after the Nelson Cruz trade. Whatever their reasons were, they waited until September 1st to call him up. Since that worked out for them (when not much else has) my money is on them waiting another 12 days.
  19. Agree, I've also thought Baldelli historically got more flack than he deserved, but not only is it time for a change, I don't think he's a fit here any longer. If a low payroll team has to pay free agents based on the 'culture' they bring to the team instead of their actual play on the field, you are not going to field a good team. Your organization needs the 'culture' to be emanating from the manager and coaches. Baldelli would probably be just fine on a team with lots of GOOD veteran players; that's not this team.
  20. The A's aren't winning many games, but it's hard not to be jealous about how many of their young hitters are, you know, hitting. I'm guessing they don't fire Mark Kotsay while they're playing in Sacramento, but if they do, I'd be interested. Or at least I'd be interested in whomever is involved in getting the most out of these young guys.
  21. I'm excited for Jenkins, but I'm not sure he should be the consensus top prospect in the system. He looks like a really good player, but if he doesn't' develop power, his ceiling is going to be lower than people seem to view it now. And we've seen with Brooks Lee that the minor league 'high contact' skills aren't always transferable to the MLB level. Honestly, I think Keaschall and Culpepper have higher ceilings offensively. To be clear, this post is really an endorsement of Keashall and Culpepper and not a take down of Jenkins.
  22. The Pohlad's had no reason to cut the purse strings and the Twins had no reason to be in the position they are currently in; I'm thinking the lottery gods are not going to reward this organization after how willfully devious they have behaved.
  23. I've always been the low guy on Brooks Lee. However, that was due to the profile of good contact but low power. I was concerned about the XBH as slap hitting infielders are fun in theory but frustrating in practice. As it stands now, it looks like he may have the potential to at least be average in the slugging department. As to Lewis, he's still an immensely talented athlete and it shows even when he's not playing well. But I don't think either reach their full potential without a more instruction-forward coaching staff. I think if you get a Terry Francona, Joe Maddon, Ron Gardenhire or Paul Molitor type in there and there's a good chance these guys click and take off. I don't think a situational manager is a good fit for a young rebuilding team.
  24. Yeah, with an emergency surgery and hospitalization, hopefully sound minds prevail and he sits out the rest of this lost season.
  25. They're not running with Gasper as the only backup catcher (What? Not for real though right?!?) while also having him DH (NO, you LIE!!!!!!!). Jhonny Pereda will certainly get a spot.
