  1. I'd be OK with Britton, he may not be OK with Minnesota though. But I don't know that he's a proven closer anymore. Since he's come back from his injury he's no longer striking guys out and he's walking an obscene amount of batters. At this point he'd probably be the 2nd lefty behind Taylor Rogers.
  2. I don't mind. I still think Chicago's rebuild is built on sand and that they are going to stink for the foreseeable future. Stick Machado on a sinking ship tied to a huge deal and maybe he'll make the situation even worse by being a malcontent or get a case of chronic apathy.
  3. Polanco (S) Cron ® Cruz ® Rosario (L) Sano ® Kepler (L) Garver ® Schoop ® Buxton ® Cron batted 2nd quite a bit last year and this team looks to be following TB's lead in a lot of areas. Schoop probably swaps with the catcher spot when Casto plays, but with only two regular lefties in the lineup I'd sandwich them around Sano to try to limit the pitching changes to the flawed but powerful hitter.
  4. He had a 100% fielding percentage in the outfield the past two years. If we don't dig into his fielding any further past that we could stay satisfied with the idea.
  5. I'm a Rooker-lover but I think last year showed he was diligent on making adjustments Brent Rooker's 2018 K% and BB% by month: April: K% 29.6 BB% 2.2 May: K% 28.7 BB% 7.0 June: K% 28.0 BB% 11.2 July: K% 24.2 BB% 13.3 August: K% 22.8 BB% 13.1
  6. I wouldn't vote for Bonds or Clemens but my view of the HOF has changed from seeing it as some kind of sacred tiered referendum to just honoring players who sportswriters and former players want to acknowledge, so I'm not going to be upset about who gets in any longer.
  7. I would condone not adding any sinkerballers, they're not a fit for this team. Nor any team that thinks intentionally putting the ball in play is a bad idea. The free agent starters were brutal this year, I wouldn't have wanted to add one just for the sake of making a move. I don't know, maybe take a chance on Gio Gonzalez or Clay Buchholz if they have any desire to come here. Otherwise, yeah, I don't see any of those free agents making the team any better.
  8. If this team is still rolling with Sano and Polanco on the left side of the infield, they'd be insane to want anything to do with an expensive sinkerballer who can't miss bats.
  9. Yeah, local teams are allowed to value players differently than sportswriters in Vermont do. I'd prefer the retired numbers don't get watered down, but I don't think they are at this point. The Twins Hall of Fame has made some selections that make me slightly hesitate.
  10. It's in Kentucky from the sound of it. I've never been invited. He is smiling virtually the whole time in the video though; I don't think I've seen him smile anywhere else. So reports of his fondness of the property might not be misplaced. Cincinnati must be a magical area.
  11. The players and contracts they have on the books leave the window open for more than one year. It would be an absurd look for the Vikings to clean house now; everyone else would be pointing at us and saying knee-jerk. Not that we're alone, I'd bet if Philly missed the playoffs instead those fans would be doing the same thing. As fans of the team I think we're too far into the forest to see the trees.
  12. So last year's 13-3 record holds no equity? If the Vikings fired their coach and GM after a season with a winning record and only one year removed from a 13-3 record they'd be ridiculed league-wide and probably deservedly so.
  13. Yeah, that looks like a terrible job to me as well. Speculation is that he likes the organization and it's near his home which is important to him.
  14. I don't think they ended it, I kept hearing about how teams might try to trade for John Harbaugh, but maybe all that was incorrect. I'd also be worried about a Chidress or Tice. With the skill position players and the freak athletes on defense, I'd think it would be a really attractive job though. I'd still keep Zimmer but if the team was confident they could find the next hot-shot offensive mind I'd be open I guess. Speilman's decisions tend to have no middle ground though, they seem to be either tremendous or tremendously bad.
  15. So he says he's not resigning or retiring. Mike Florio seems to think he's daring the Vikings to do something. Others speculate that he'd like the Bengals job as it's near his ranch. Plenty of Vikings fans likely want a new coach, which isn't uncommon after a .500(ish) season. Only a year removed from the NFC Championship game and lots of money tied to still very good defensive players, the front office probably wouldn't think it prudent however. So if Cincinnati did want him but the Vikings don't feel like he should be fired, could there be a trade? I'd think it would be a way for just about everyone to come away without egg on their face.
  16. I don't mind Rudolph but he'd have to take a huge paycut. Looking around the league, there were about 5 good TE this year. I'm not sure why, but for most teams it's just not a position of emphasis any longer. I know it's hard to do, but if they could just manage to get an above average LT they could probably see vast line improvements just by kicking Reiff inside or to RT. I'm curious what they do at LB. I don't know that I like Wilson and Gideon enough to start with Kendricks.
  17. Yeah a three and out isn't doing anyone any good any way you analyze it. I'd guess that he was looking for more of those longer sustained drives that tend to eat clock and give the defense a breather; those tend to feature more run. Not that I'm in that camp. I want high flying offenses. I'm thinking Adam Theilen is thinking about the same as well. And besides, that O-Line is not equipped for that kind of offense since holding penalties and sacks kill the long sustained drives.
  18. That's the impression I first had when we heard reports that he wanted to run more, but I'm not sure that's exactly right. I might guess that he just didn't want the passing attack to be as lopsided as it was early in the year. But considering Zimmer has pretty much left the offense up to the coordinators throughout his tenure, I'd also guess that the reason he wanted to run more was because the offense wasn't taking any time off the clock with the pass heavy attack and it was putting the defense back on the field much too soon and much too often. I'd roll with Zimmer one more year and try again to get a smart hot-shot young OC. If they pansy out and go to some un-creative retread because DeFilippo scared them off from trying to go modern, then they might as well just can everyone and start over.
  19. I think Philly is finding out that it’s not as desirable as it thinks.
  20. I think plenty of teams would take Austin as a third or fourth piece in a deal. Though perhaps not if he has another half season with a 35% K rate. So I’d look to move him now while other teams can still project potential on him.
  21. He seemed pretty brutal most of the year when he'd go back out after five, more so than most pitchers I've watched. His game logs look like he did a bit better toward the end of the year, but by then everyone had turned off their TVs so I don't think those numbers count.
  22. The same Kyle Gibson that made it to AAA in his first year of pro-ball, had TJ surgery and got called up to the majors less than a year after he recovered from it? He was awful in 2011, likely due to the arm injury which would later result in surgery. I really liked Meyer and desperately wanted him to be the ace the Twins always needed, but there are no caveats with a 5.6 BB/9 nor should there be with 4.4 or 4.7 BB/9 which is what he did his last two full seasons in Rochester. No team needs to be chastised for not giving a guy who can't find the strikezone unconditional looks.
  23. I'd like to see Odorizzi get a look as a new-age long-man in the pen. The kind that go in and try to shut it down for three innings, not the old blow-out mop-up guy. But I agree, he shouldn't ever go back out for the 6th; the 5th might be pushing it. I'm interested in any new ideas though. Pulling a young pitcher with no signs of distress after four or five innings never seemed to be an issue for Molitor or Gardenhire. That should probably have been the case with vets if they had splits like this as well.
  24. I don’t have strong enough feelings about him or Cron to much care. Seems to me Austin or Kepler along with some combination of Gonsalves, Gordon, Polonco, Mejia types would be a nice package of “MLB Ready” players teams are always asking for in trade scenarios. You
  25. I’d like the Twins to try to trade for Gregory Polanco. He kind of broke-out last year but I think there’s still more. He has a reasonable salary now but it escalates probably beyond Pittsburgh’s comfort zone quickly. The downside with him is he’ll probably have to be a 1B/DH type when his higher option year salaries kick in, however, with no DH, that also makes him a terrible fit for an NL team like Pittsburgh, the chintziest team in the league.
