  1. I remember when I was younger and the broadcast would cut away to the parents of a player getting interviewed in the stands, I'd think they were just killing time with some dopey hubbub for the grandmothers who were watching the game to talk about in their sewing circles the next day. Now they make me cry and I wish they'd spend the whole damn inning with the parents.
  2. An open faced fried chicken sandwich? No gravy? No mashed potatoes? No dressing? No bacon, tomato or greens? Pretty sure that doesn’t count as a sandwich.
  3. I don’t know, that’s a low threshold. Even Steve Lombardozzi did it. It only took him four seasons too.
  4. Despite the broken dryer? Yeah, that’s a hell of a baseball game!
  5. So when the Twins offer Smeltzer for Scherzer, what else will Washington have to give up?
  6. Geez, it’s only been one day but I almost forgot how fun this offense is!
  7. I’m liking Milwauke’s bullpen tonight!
  8. I hate the Buck is coming out. I love that there appears to be a million possibilities to rearrange the defense.
  9. MLB should embrace this. While the teams lose initial control of the player (which is probably always their over-arching game plan) having the NPL be a feeder system for immediate MLB transition would be a great off season addition that would keep fans interested during non-baseball season. If you had ten or so woulda-been draft picks doing this each year fans would be anxious to see if their team could snag one. The NFL would eat this up, though they are a 100x better at marketing.
  10. Yeah the Twins lineup does appear to be full of robots lately.
  11. As is the case with most young pitchers who don’t miss many bats, my expectations are pretty low for Smeltzer. Though he was getting good strikeout numbers in AA. Maybe Wes Johnson has some ideas. Regardless, go get Devin, and keep rocking the Kent Tekulve look!
  12. Here’s to a swift recovery for the young men. While I was hoping to see Graterol this year, there’s really not a ton of spots outside of the bullpen to see prospects this year. However, there are some pretty good trade chips on this list that may need to be crossed off.
  13. I read it, I don’t particularly care for Mauer, and it still read like sour grapes. It sounded like a hack, who’s only schtick is to (usually deservedly) rip the local team, found himself terribly obsolete because there was so little to rag on so far this year.
  14. I remember this spring when we used to discuss what traits would be most relevant to Baldelli when figuring out the optimal lineup. I almost feel cheated now that that conversation is moot since every player seemingly has every optimal trait for every spot in the lineup.
  15. The polite way to say this is gaining Baldelli helped this team MUCH more.
  16. I see them at 113M this year and 132M to end last year. So I guess I see Mauer on top of this club as a 4M increase. Assuming someone was foolish enough to give Mauer $23M to play this year.
  17. I think Souhan needs to check his math. I agree Mauer wasn't helping the team win, but they didn't sink all of Mauer's contract back into this team. Even if one were to add Mauer's $23M salary to the current payroll, it's still short of where it was last year. And no one in their right mind would have given Mauer $23M to play this year anyway. This team got better for what looks like a lot of reasons. The only one of which at all related to Mauer is that CJ Cron is a better ballplayer than Mauer was. Which means the title could have just as easily have been 'Brian Dozier is Twins' 2019 MVP' since Jonathan Schoop is better than he was too. Ugh, I don't get any kind of warm fuzzies when I think of Joe Mauer, but I swear, Jim Souhan is among the worst trolls on this site.
  18. I'd trade one of the top guys for Scherzer, but he's got a Bobby Bonilla contract. I might think that deal is almost trade-proof, particularly after it's pointed out to the buying team's owners that they'll still be paying this guy 5 years after he retires. Not to mention the actual total for two and a half years of service is going to cost about 100M. Sign me up, but uh, we'd probably have to take back every terrible thing we've ever said about a Pohlad if they take on that one.
  19. I would like Syndergaard, but if the Mets keep hanging around .500 he probably won't be available. They have a bunch of key guys on the IL with short term injuries and their stud arms haven't rounded into form yet. I'm cheering against them for the sole purpose of trying to get my hands on their pitching staff, but my money is on the Mets going on a decent run in near future.
  20. Interesting situation the Twins find themselves in. They have a surplus of talented OF and MI prospects, but don't really have any immediate offensive holes to fill. I hope the Mets fall back far enough to open up bidding for Syndergaard, but if they don't, there doesn't look to be much for top end starters available this summer. There will be relievers available, but it looks like most of the elite ones are either not on the rosters of sellers, or they are injured. Many of the relievers I find most interesting are probably more under the radar and may not garner big named prospects.
  21. Yup, Cody Stashak's my guy, and he's being groomed as a multi-inning guy too. He shouldn't be in AA right now Going externally, I think my top priority would be a starter over a reliever (though I'd take some of both). Mostly because I think Pineda's 4-seam/slider combo might play pretty good in the bullpen and shaving his outings down to 1 or 2 innings, he might end up being a better bullpen upgrade than what's available in trade.
  22. I hope the Twins end owning the East as well.
  23. It would be great if he has a long career and gets that number to 100%.
  24. Ah, so he didn't meet the height requirements to be a Minnesotan. I always wondered why he left.
  25. I typed it with a very stoic expression on my face if that helps.
