    Yeah, Morneau rope-a-doped Hamilton! Remembering back on it, I remember how disappointed all of non-Twins nation was that Hamilton didn't get the crown for that performance. I'm guessing if the two battled again today, there wouldn't be too many people cheering for Hamilton.

    They might be seeing it that way, but in 2019 they drafted contact hitters (along with a few power hitters too) and those contact guys are developing power. Quite a bit in some cases. But I don't know that they're sick of all the strikeouts. The Twins are 11th in the league in strikeout percentage, so they're above average in that regard.

    Or Spencer Steer or Eduard Julian or Alex Isola. It's hard to judge the batters by power or the pitchers by velocity because they seemed to have figured out a few tricks to soup up these players that we're not used to seeing.

    Ok, my (completely uneducated and BS) prediction for the next pick, Bryce Osmund - OK State. Presumably he'd have been under the purview of the same scout who did CES.

    Second baseman who's already had TJ surgery. Sounds like another sleeper!

    Good stuff. Funny how the level of competition weighs much more heavily on college players than HS kids, who pretty much all have level of competition issues.

    And then they pick another prep player with the next pick. Maybe they're not 100% confident in getting Porter signed but they know with Rocker going way under slot, they can just draft a bunch of prep players and hope for the best. I mean, they didn't have any 2nd, 3rd or comp round picks to increase their bonus pool. Rocker's savings is going to be worth more than the rest of the players bonus pools combined.

    That just doesn't add up to me as Porter was rated higher than Rocker by many if not most people. The rest of the picks aren't worth enough to push Porter back up to that 4-5M range.

    If the Twins truly do have to save some money to sign Prielipp, they're probably not getting any HS kids this draft. With how many of the team's top prospects are in the upper minors, I kind of thought they'd go younger this year. But I suppose I'd rather they just roll with the BPA approach early in the draft anyway.

    His size and stuff looks like a reliever to me, but I'm not complaining about that these days.

    I get that from a Rangers and Boras perspective, but why would the players be OK with this? I mean, Porter was rated higher than Rocker on many lists. Did Boras somehow talk both players into splitting the bonus 50/50?

    Probably just because it seems too good to be true. But I'm sure the Twins did their homework.

    If he doesn't sign, I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to do the Indy Ball route instead of going back to college. For one, the Indy leagues will be happy to have the attention the player will bring with him and likely would be more amenable to a workload agreement as opposed to a big money SEC club who will want 75+ IP. For another, it seemed to work out well for Kumar Rocker.

    They would lose the slot money. Unless that changed with the updated draft rules.

    I don't know anything about this kid, and I usually don't like the small ones, but based on that video, that swing sure looks like it contains power potential. Maybe he can't play SS, but I don't put much stock in what the national pundits say because according to them, a guy won't stick at SS unless he's elite. This despite the fact that by definition, half of the league is below average. Seems to me the only concerns that tend to hold up are the ones about the arm-strength. The concerns about the speed, range and size don't usually amount to much. But maybe he does have a weak arm.

    I'd have to think that with the TJ surgery and the tradition of the competitive SEC to abuse their senior arms, Prielipp is pretty unlikely to return to college. Obviously the bonus is going to be the biggest factor, but Prielipp and his agent have to be thrilled that a team like the Twins, a team that is cautious and innings-mindful with young arms, grabbed him.

    Seems like some weird takes from the pundits about his defensive ability. I thought concerns about being big-bodied and not having top end speed went out the window around the time of Cal Ripken. Carlos Correa has had exactly zero stolen bases in the past three seasons, I would bet Polanco beats him in a foot race handily. In fact, using sprint speed, Statcast says Polanco and Nick Gordon are more capable SS than Correa. According to this body-size/speed logic anyway.

    I agree. This conversation is starting to talk me out of Green actually. I don't tend to look at the stats of HS kids, but it'd seem to me a 20% K rate in HS may be due for a significant jump in pro ball. I can't find Buxton's or Lewis' HS K numbers to compare them.

    Looking at their team's current make up, they are 7th worst in strikeout % and 5th worst in walk %, so it doesn't seem to be an organizational philosophy. It doesn't appear they have too many top prospects that are outfielders either and it doesn't seem like their current corner OFs are anything close to long term solutions. Seems like lots of times these things end up being about whether the organization is in a place where they want the prospect help in a couple of years, or if they're in a place where they feel good about waiting the player out.
