  1. But why wouldn’t you use that prospect equity to get a top starter instead?
  2. The problem with trying to replace a Pagan, is that you rarely know what you’re going to get with a reliever year to year, as evidenced by Pagan himself. There are probably less than a dozen relievers who are constantly good every year, so signing or trading for one based on last year’s results is just a roll of the dice.
  3. You say that with no discernable sarcasm. Why would you do this to me?!?!
  4. A TV deal seems like a weird one for Target Field Events to announce. I think they've made a big deal every time they revamp one of the stadium bars. I'd guess it's something like that.
  5. Ooof. Typing that, it just occurred to me, that if Cousins signs a long term deal (relative term) elsewhere and the Vikings want a bridge veteran QB while drafting a rookie, Baker Mayfield may be near the top of the list. Pickings are slim next year.
  6. I mean, even Baker Mayfield has looked better, and by a considerable margin.
  7. I still think Montas was a product of the Oakland Colosseum. I definitely don't want the Twins to be the team to attempt to prove that theory wrong. I haven't heard others share that idea so I understand that it may be a theory entirely belonging to me, though his road splits lend me at least some supporting evidence. I guess this can be labeled as a 'personal preference' for the time being.
  8. Now we're talking. The off season can start now.
  9. I'd still rather see Dobbs than Mullins, but when you put it that way, yeah I can't see a way to justify QBR as a reliable stat.
  10. ******Moderator Note****** This thread seems to have no identity any longer and has been locked.
  11. Moving him out of the pocket and letting him run at will worked to begin with. The last two teams stopped that, but maybe the coaches think they found away to stop them from stopping it. Either way, no QB means no deep playoff run, so I'm already at the point where I'm as amused by the shenanigans as I am with winning a game against an average team. This is the one away game I go to each year, and whether the Vikings win or not probably doesn't meet my top ten priorities, and I'm not really a Vegas kind of guy. I still love the team, but I've already happily resign myself to an anxiety-free end of season at this point.
  12. Seems like they've drafted more the last couple of years. Perhaps that's a side effect of cutting down on the number of players selected in the June draft.
  13. Yeah, I'm quite critical now, though I think the 'safe' play, and the one to shield them from the most criticism, would have been to start Mullins (gross), so I suspect they do have something up their sleeves. Most likely something to do with Dobbs' ability to use his legs. I'm quite curious to see what exactly will "help Josh thrive". It's going to hilariously blow up in their face if they're wrong.
  14. Sounds like the game plan will be different: Which would beg the question, why didn't they change anything mid-game last week when the old game plan wasn't working? Other coaches are able to change tactics mid game. Heck, O'Connell and Dobbs basically just winged it in his first game.
  15. I mean they did start him over Manion, who was familiar with the system.
  16. Two offensive players. One of whom is a 23-year-old who hasn't played above AA and has a career .644 OPS.
  17. The Twins need offense. If Kepler's 2-3 WAR is almost entirely on the defensive side of the equation, as it usually is, it's not fixing the Twins biggest need.
  18. And you know what, maybe if Olney wants there to be grand promotional changes to MLB, he should also point fingers at his employer and rival sports networks. ESPN typically broadcasts ONE game a week, and it's usually the Dodgers, Yankees or Red Sox. They could at least have a game a day on ESPN 2, even if it was a day game. What else are they showing during the summer? Fox Sports, ESPN and CBS Sports are carried on pretty much all major live streaming services. If they had any intention of helping the game thrive, they could be bidding to put regional streaming games in front of nearly every home with no additional user charges, just like fans got with over-the-air broadcasts for decades. Obviously owners would have to accept a reasonable offer, but I never hear of the actual nationwide sports networks, who already have the infrastructure in place, as an option.
  19. Yeah, if you're a GM and are at all concerned about making a trade for a bust, Verdugo would be the clear winner. He's been at least a league average hitter five years in a row. But that's not how all front offices work. Kepler was better last year (the last three months anyway) so I could see other teams valuing that more. But again, if I'm looking to trade Kepler, it's in a package, not as a stand alone player for some modest prospects. The deal I'd be interested wouldn't look anything like this one.
  20. I'm putting that on the league though, not the players. If MLB wants to copy the NFL, it's the commissioner, the owners and when necessary the players union that need map out all the offseason events and artificially encourage the pomp and circumstance. NFL players don't do this, yet Olney did allude to LeBron James taking it upon himself to promote his decisions with his contracts. Uh, does Olney not remember that James got dragged across the coals every time he tried to make a show of him choosing his next home? He basically turned himself into a Kardashian and NBA fans HATED it. I'm sure the media loved it because it gave them all kinds of stories to write, but how would this help Ohtani?
  21. Ohtani is holding up the whole league. That wasn't a criticism, just an observation. Spring training is still over two months away, so there's really no rush outside of killing my boredom. And since there's only three free agents I have interest in, the few free agents who are signing just makes it more likely the Twins will swing some trades later. Also, a disgraceful piece by Buster Olney about the Ohtani situation: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/39049998/shohei-ohtani-secret-free-agency-mlb-dodgers-blue-jays Basically obtuse to the worst part of modern journalism. "I want to know everything, right now! How dare you keep information about your contract negotiations from me, I need to report on this immediately to stay relevant!"
  22. ****Moderator Note**** Let's stay on topic and stay away from condescending responses and personal attacks.
  23. Offered or not offered, the appeal of moving Kepler or Polanco to me was always in a package with prospects for a better return anyway. As the team currently stands, I'm looking to upgrade the 26-man roster, not the prospect lists. Maybe they'll find no suitors, but I'd not give up on that plan until all avenues are exhausted.
  24. It's really not about the price to me, but the roster space. Is this really the extent of the offensive addition they really want to make? They really can only add one bat before they have to start trading veterans. Which I'm fine with, but many aren't. I'm cool moving Polanco and Kepler, but as much grief as I give them, O'Neill isn't exactly an upgrade to them or anyone on the roster. I think every offensive player they bring in needs to be an impact bat.
  25. Likely means they feel better about Buxton than us fans do. Whether that's wise or not will be left to the gods of hindsight I suppose.
