  1. It would have taken way more than the 25M to get him two months ago, and I have no interest in him now after missing all of spring training. Those free agents haven't once worked out well for the Twins; this looks almost exactly like the Lance Lynn situation.
  2. I wouldn't be chummy with him if I had to pay off a 4.5M gambling debt of his either.....
  3. The only challenge will be to try to identify Juan Berenguer from a spammer when he joins the site to create his own page.
  4. I think the distraction is going to be bigger issue for the Dodgers than they think. Especially if the feds start requesting information and interviews. Hope MLB not putting him on the restricted list bites them in the butt in the long term.
  5. Most seem to think the Vikings will trade up for McCarthy, not Maye. While I want Maye, McCarthy is growing on me. He still doesn't seem to have the 'gunslinger' mentality that I want, but most of the knocks on him seem to be related to the Harbaugh suppressed system he was in. If these QBs are smart enough, have the talent and go to a competent coaching staff, they'll get coached out of their college system in short order.
  6. Not a great start, but I'm happy none of the bullpen arms are down due to shoulder or elbow injuries.
  7. I'm not any more interested in Rich Hill than I am Clevenger, but Rich Hill was good with the Twins. Quite good in fact. His problem was that he was injured and only got 8 starts.
  8. A sincere retraction? Clearly you aren't taking journalism classes from Adam Schefter. Not that anyone would mistake him for an actual journalist.
  9. Yeah, the greed of it is what bothers me the most. Another way for the billionaires to take more money from the most susceptible, with no effort or or any contributory benefit to anyone else, and then the hypocrisy of raking in the cash while acting like nothing bad can happen from this.
  10. Last season is what I base my position on. A couple guys with significant strikeout issues is palatable, but I think their success last year was based more on the pitching. With strikeouts up and down the lineup, they stranded way too many baserunners.
  11. It's also possible the Dodgers may decide in the near future that this disaster isn't worth the 700M they're paying him and see an out to void the contract. I'm guessing they won't in this case, but if the feds get involved and it gets messy and public opinion starts swaying the other way, maybe?
  12. I don't know, 2018 Lance Lynn looks an awful lot like 2024 Jordan Montgomery. Same age and almost identical track records. I think it would be hard to find a better comp for Montgomery actually.
  13. If it's up to MLB, for sure. But if the feds are involved? Taking down illegal gambling rings sounds like a party they get excited about crashing.
  14. Too late for me. The Twins have signed lots of guys who held out for bigger deals only to sign after spring training was about over or the season was underway. Lance Lynn, Chris Archer, Logan Morrison and Kendrys Morales. Somewhere between gut-punch and full blown catastrophe. I don't care how you do in spring training, but you need to get the reps in. Too late for Montgomery.
  15. I think eventually (not now) something will need to be done with the lineup if Wallner, Julien and Buxton continue to strike out at a 30% clip. I think that's a bit untenable. But if they put up .850 OPS, the team can absolutely live with the strikeouts from one or two of those guys. No reason Wallner can't be one of them.
  16. Maybe he's just a really, really big Carolina Panthers fan.
  17. He should know to never take advice from a ghost that looks like this..
  18. Probably not an either or. He probably gets prison time THEN gets deported.
  19. Yeah, for MLB the big pocket Dodgers are probably a secondary concern. How can you clear the dollar signs out of their eyes when they think about their market in Japan?
  20. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-03-20/gambling-story So I doubt few actually believe that Ohtani's interpreter himself racked up 4.5M in gambling debts. Had all of this been don through legit gambling sites, I'm sure it would have been tracked, but it sounds like it wasn't. All parties deny that Ohtani was placing, or asking his interpreter to place bets, and all parties deny that there was betting on baseball. Really curious how hard MLB will investigate this, because clearly the Dodgers are going to want to sweep this under the rug. I mean, we know the history of what is supposed to happen if you bet on baseball, especially if it's your team. I'd not want Ohtani to be banned from the game, but I'd also not like to see the MLB put on an obvious dog and pony show with an investigation. Casting a blind eye would probably be worse.
  21. Yeah, last year Patrick Jones was the number 5 LB (including Hunter and Wonnum) and played only 40% of the defensive snaps. Troy Dye was number 6 and played only 11%. Now two league-wide know guys, Ward and Grugier-Hill are numbers 5 and 6, both guys are used to playing more than Jones and Dye. I doubt they both sign here on the same day unless the Vikings say they'll be in the rotation. Jones and Asamoha are still here too. With fresh guys, it really seems like it's going to be blitz city around here next season. Should be fun.
  22. Signed two more LBs now. Jihad Ward and Kamu Grugier-Hill. Neither were full time starters, but both were on the field regularly. This obviously isn't the Jets or Eagles defense, but the Vikings seem to be stocking it with lots of capable players so like those teams I assume they'll be rotating guys in and out way more than last year. Should keep the defense fresh for the 4th Q.
  23. Ha, yeah, I put about as much stock in spring training as I do the All Star Game. Just get the reps in.
  24. I think Paddock is going to be better than expected. As for the internal options, I really wish they would have pushed Raya's innings closer to 100 last year. He's the one that I think has a chance to come in here and be an actual top of the rotation arm.
  25. The Twins new hitting philosophy of taking as many pitches as possible seems to have really clicked with Castro. His K% remained about the same but his BB% about doubled. He keeps that OBP above .330 and he'll always be a useful player.
