    Yeah, like Pablo Lopez, Sonny Gray, Kenta Meada and Jake Odorizzi. Every time! DeSclafani was a throw in piece of a trade that virtually nobody here was happy with, I wish him the best but he was always a long shot not to lose his job before June regardless of health. Speaking of, I'm in agreement with others, the delay due to 'elbow soreness' sounds like his previous elbow soreness kept him from being ready for camp, not current soreness. You wouldn't ramp up activity if it's sore now, you'd shut a guy down completely.

    Hadn't thought of this, but does releasing Mattison mean the Vikings are keeping Akers? Cutting him would save 1.2M (I believe), but that's half of what the Vikings saved on Mattison. And I think Mattison is going to have a hard time in free agency. The list of free agent RBs is Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, Tony Pollard, Austin Ekler, Devin Singletary, D'Andre Swift, A.J. Dillon, Gus Edwards, J.K. Dobbins, Antonio Gibson, Ezekiel Elliot, Zack Moss, Boston Scott, Rico Dowdle, D'onta Foreman and then a dozen other lesser RBs. Where does Mattison fit in that hierarchy? He's probably not top 10. Somewhere around the Ezekiel Elliot through D'onta Foreman tier?

    Yeah, at this point, I'd think a non-contending team would still probably be interested in rostering Larnach. Normally he'd seem like a player you'd get a decent-but-not-elite relief pitcher for, but the Twins clearly don't need more of that. I'm not really interested in prospects at this point, but the best you could probably do is get some non-40 man kid in A ball with promise, or maybe a pitching version Larnach. Someone who's falling from grace but still has one option. Another club's SWR maybe.

    Yeah, I'm not screaming about the Polanco trade, it was fine, it just wasn't very impactful. I never expected Polanco to get the kind of player I desired all by himself, but I was hopeful the Twins would be the team adding in pieces in the trade to get the best player in return. I still think that if they haven't already, the front office is going to realize pretty quickly here that having no players with options on the 26-man roster that actually should be optioned, is a pretty big issue. I'm no longer expecting them to make a trade, but I still think moving one of Wallner, Kepler, Julien or Kirilloff is still a realistic possibility. And while I'd no longer put him in the above class of player, if all the outfielders ahead of him stay healthy and on the roster, I could see Larnach moved in a low key deal.

    Right, those were the mid season trades. The Twins haven't done well there. Off season trades on the other hand they have nailed. So if trading some time this season is cards, patience probably should only extend to opening day.

    Probably should be expecting some new on Harrison Smith soon too I'd imagine.

    That would be crazy but I could see the Bears trying something like that. I'm not convinced the Bears want to immediately try again with a rookie QB. I still think a scenario where the Bears trade Fields, sign Cousins, trade down a few spots, and pair up Cousins with Harrison/Odunze/Nabors along with DJ Moore is almost certainly something Chicago has talked about but nobody else is.

    McCarthy is hard because Harbaugh is absolutely a clock manager offensive coach. He likes to use a big bell-cow RB, like Frank Gore, and reserve the passing for 3rd down. They don't throw to their running backs (which is why Zach Charbonnet transferred from Michigan), they really only target one receiver (Michael Crabtree in SF, Ronnie Bell in Mich) and they pepper the TE with intermediate passes. They did open the offense up a bit more this past year though and had two receivers getting regular targets. So I don't know what to make of McCarthy. I will say that I didn't like his post game interviews because (and this is going to sound really, really terrible) he was really humble, reserved and modest and I think the best NFL QBs tend to have the kind of swagger and over-confidence that should get them punched in the face ten minutes after walking into the bar. The guys who sound like McCarthy do tend to be the 'game manager' types who stick to the scripts and always run the play as designed, even if they get to the line of scrimmage and see that it should be improvised. We're all 'Minnesota Nice' up here and I know athletes who don't follow that trait get roasted, but it's been a long time since the Vikings had a QB I probably couldn't stand to be in the same room with, and I'd rather switch to that personality just to see if there's actually something to it.

    My in laws have been wintering there two years in a row now. Thought I'd get a chance to go down there, but having three school age kids once again makes the Venn Diagram of what's desirable and what's feasible have little overlap.

    I really like Severino, though I'm not sure the Twins lineup can support he, Buxton, Wallner and Julien with all those strikeouts. But all are good players, and I'm not opposed to making some moves to accomodate.

    If that's the case, I concentrate on the interior OL. Those spots tend to be much cheaper than edge rushers, and interior OL guys who are still in their 20s should still be good for the foreseeable future.

    I clearly said that wasn't the point. It's not an individual matchup. The odds that it would take until June to find a match are no higher than the odds that Santana will be bad during that period. Let me put it this way, what happens if Santana stinks again and now two of your bench spots are filled with a catcher only and a 1B only? That's awful roster management.

    It's not just Miranda though because he has options. It's Santana vs the field. Miranda, Lee, Severino, Camargo, Martin, Prato, Keiresy, Isola, Helman, Williams. One or more of those guys is almost certainly going to be better than Santana and you don't have to stick with ANY of them all year. Not only do those guys all have position flexibility, but they won't be wasting a bench spot if they don't hit, they'll be in St. Paul. And Santana hasn't produced three out of the last four years. Why would we think he's going to beat those 25% at best odds this year? He had a sub .700 OPS every year from 2020-22 and that's supposed to be Plan A for the starting 1B on a team that thinks it's contending for a World Series?

    So then why would we care about Santana? That's like his best case scenario, and he can't be optioned or play any other position. If he goes in the tank again, the Twins are wasting one of their few bench spots on a guy who isn't hitting and can only play 1B.

    Yeah, I guess we can go ahead and send Lopez and Duran packing. I can't imagine anyone is embarrassed about a game in February.

    The cumbersome part is the team feeling the need to get a Carlos Santana or a Manuel Margot. They can't be optioned and their ceilings are extremely low. Santana isn't a RH masher, last year was the first year in four seasons that he had an OPS over .800 vs lefties. There's only ever going to be four bench spots at most. If this team thinks every lefty needs to be platooned, than they shouldn't have more than one or two in their starting lineup, it's just not an efficient roster otherwise. But I don't think they all need to be platooned. Just let Julien and Wallner and Kirilloff keep facing left handers until they start doing it passably or prove that they can't. And if the team isn't willing to do that, these three players' value will NEVER be higher than it is now and they should be trading them for a top end starting pitcher.

    Yet his strikeout rate was only 15% and had a BABIP of .235. If his shoulder was the cause for the decrease in his exit velocity and he puts that behind him, he could be the bat they needed to find but couldn't afford in free agency.

    Sorry, but this is not a dream I have. My dream is to find starters that don't need to be platooned, then stacking the bench with the best players you can fill it with. I get why the Twins are platooning right now, but it's highly inefficient to roster construction. Get these guys to hit either handed pitchers, and if they can't, keep looking.

    Well if I can get #7 for that, sure. I guess I didn't think he'd have that kind of value, but I'm sure I don't have a good read on his value either.

    I'd guess fans of 31 other teams would think you're insane, but everyone watching the Vikings the past several years could easily empathize. It's been downright brutal in the middle. Not sure I trade Darrisaw though unless the draft capital is significantly higher than I assume it is.

    If it involves Enrique Hernandez, you can count me out. He does appear to play better for them than other teams though.

    Man, the Dodgers just can't quit Kike. And they're paying him 4M while Gio Urshela and Amed Rosario got 1.5M, Nick Ahmed took a MiLB deal and the Dodgers had to eat money to get rid of the arguably better bench player in Margot.

    But if you happened to need one of these, and I certainly hope the Twins don't any time in the foreseeable future, you can pick one up for peanuts. Neither of these prospects likely amounts to much, but offense costs money, defense doesn't, so take the guy who's ceiling would be more expense to replace externally.
