  1. Hicks put himself in a big hole with that BA, Rookie of the Year still seems to be judged by traditional stats. I'd guess Arcia has a better shot but Jurickson Profar is now up as is Mike Zunino, Chris Archer, Jackie Bradley and Will Myers will be soon. Aside from Zunino, they play for winning teams which might help their cause.
  2. I'm so numb to Dick's near HR call I don't even flinch anymore even if my eyes aren't on the TV. He got his blood pressure up for that last drive by Mauer and it came up 15 feet short of the warning track.
  3. Yeah, that's why I assume this could be reason for the delay. I forgot to include DeMuth in that explanation but those were 3 of the top 8 picks, all of whom the Twins may target with underslot deals. Doesn't explain why Stewart isn't signed though. All indications were that there WAS a handshake deal in place. He's also only thrown 40 innings this year, there should be plenty of innings left on that arm to build experience and stamina though he's likely destined for a yet-to-start rookie league anyway.
  4. I think the team is a little bit to blame. It's been awhile so I might be misremembering this a bit, but I'm thinking about when the Twins tried and failed to start their own network a decade ago. Most people in "Twins Territory" didn't have access to view the games for the first month or so of the season because hardly any cable/satalite providers would meet the Twins (rediculous) broadcasting price. When the Twins finally scrapped their network midseason, they were forced to crawl back to FSN. Just a hunch but considering the Twins had egg on their face and had next to no bargaining leverage, I think it's a fairly safe assumption that they may not have gotten a deal comparable to other clubs as they had arrived at the negotiating table strapped over a barrell they created themselves.
  5. Yeah, I've been biting my tongue because I didn't want to be labled impatient. I guess it doesn't matter much long term but when you see that the A's have signed 25 picks and the Royals 18 it gets a bit frustrating. I wonder if there is any issue with Eades and Slegers as they are still pitching. They are low leverage college guys, perhaps the Twins feel they need to nail those two down underslot first so they know what they have left for the HS kids. Or it could just be that they are the same slow and conservative club we've grown accustomed to.
  6. I agree, sure Duensing's a lefty but Perkins is as well. Besides, it was the bottom of the 8th, if the lead was blown (it was) and the Twins don't score in the bottom of the inning (they did however) there would have never been a save situation for Perkins to get into anyway.
  7. Plus you never know, an ill-timed dead-hooker-in-the-trunk traffic stop might cause his college to rescind the scholarship which would force him to take the Twins offer.
  8. That was Bill Smith. I want him but that's assuming he's a hard thrower. Every article I've read states his fastball is in the 90's. That's pretty vague. 92 MPH likely does not warrent the same offer that 96 MPH does. I guess we'll have to wait until his workout though it seems strange we can't find a little better scouting reports considering he has pitched in international competitions since 2009.
  9. Steroids = Red Bull. Got it. By the way unperscribed steriods were always illegal.
  10. Good interview Parker. I always thought Bremer was a tough one to hook, good work.
  11. I got a call. Dick or Bert is going to have a call.
  12. Recent defectors Cespedes, Puig and Chapman all recieved MLB contracts upon signing. That meant the clock started ticking regardless as to whether they started in the minors or majors. Assuming the front office will soon consider this a "rebuilding" season, I wonder if that would deter this club? They can't delay his service time until a later date to maximize his contract during competitve years like they could with a traditional prospect.
  13. I don't but good timing bringing this thread back up. It should be a hot one now that the draft is over. I haven't seen it posted anywhere on the site but the Twins appear to be one of the 7 suitors for Cuban defector Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez. He is 26 and Cuban so he doesn't qualify for the international signing rules. This obviously could put the Twins at a disadvantage as they don't generally out bid other team for free agents but it's worth keeping an eye on. He's supposed to have a workout for June 20th.
  14. Yup And yup. I fail to see why it's acceptable for Hicks, Arcia and Parmelee to fine tune their game and sand off the rough edges at the MLB level but not Gibson, and that's to say nothing of the non-prospects like Deduno, Walters, Hernandez and Escobar. This organization is strangely selective about who gets handled as though they were a delicate flower.
  15. I'm going to go ahead and read between the lines here. I think it's a fair assumption that Gonsalves slept with Keith Law's wife.
  16. I doubt the Twins want to put Buxton and Sano on the same arbitration schedule. With the recent promotions, Sano, Rosario and Meyer could be timing things a little awkwardly for the Twins as it is.
  17. Yeah, I love TK but this seems to be a common idea in the organization. The implication of course is that talented players don't have work as hard. What a crock, it doesn't mean they don't. It's all simply just Rocky mentality, we cheer for the less talented underdog and when they prevail we have to assume they outworked the percieved better athlete. Ivan Drago worked his tail off too. So Gardy should be managing in the Midwest League instead?
  18. Gardy dropped Romero's name, is anyone shocked? Plouffe has been in his doghouse all year. If Gardy has an eye out for a replacement should we really be surprised?
  19. Outside of Stewart did they do much of this? I don't see scouting reports for most of the guys drafted late but Gonsalves is the only other HS arm they took until late and I didn't think he was a high velocity guy at the moment, though I could be wrong.
  20. I could see some manager/GM tension with this call. Ryan surely wants to see the youngsters defense be damned, but Gardy will likely want the only guy who is a competent centerfielder if there's a chance his job is on the line.
  21. I see the previous two drafts didn't change the perception of the Twins much to some of these guys. KLaw: "fits the Twins' mold of taking strike-throwing college arms without huge upside." Churchill: "fell to a team with a history of drafting strike throwers." This tells me the perception isn't going to go away until the Twins actually successfully groom some aces from their own system.
  22. Starting to get a lot of bats for the corner OF/DH spots. When is it time to disucss if the Twins should become sellers?
  23. Well that's his schtick. He'll create his own his own line of logic to justify a daily rant. He pulled together two unrelated topics, Buxton getting hype and the Twins losing, to make the audience think something sinister is at play. I can't stand him. He'll rant about things that 99% of the listeners agree with and make it sound like he's fighting a losing battle. Then the listeners think to themselves "Hey, yeah I also don't like bigots/wife beaters/Terrell Owens/Nazis, I totally agree with Dan!" I recall him freaking out about fans giving undeserved standing ovations because it undermined the ovation he gave Willie Mays once. "Geez Dan, I hadn't realized until now that Lew Ford is not as good of a baseball player as Willie Mays, anyone who stood and clapped for his totally unexpected career day that helped his team pull ahead in the bottom of the 8th should be ashamed!" His bafoonary is a shame because when he sits down to do an interview with someone important he does a really nice job. Unfortunately flying off the hook about some inane detail about everyday life gives him better ratings so that's the avenue he takes.
  24. The Twins drafted so many college kids early in the draft you have to think they were saving up a good amount of money for Gonsalves and/or Navarretto. I know it's only been a couple days, but seeing that the Rangers have already signed 12 picks, I'm jealous.
