I agree they are WAAAAAY more smug, and it's unearned. I really loathe them. I just think the SEC presidents and state legislatures down south should be held criminally responsible for diverting all these funds. Those are the states where the people need them the most. So I hate the SEC more as there are many more real-world consequences for their behavior. And gross, listening to Tim Tebow gush about Riley Leonard. 'No he didn't have the stats, but his players love him more for that. His toughness is what REALLY matters.' No one is fooled Tim, we all know you're talking about yourself.

Yeah, my dislike of the undeserved smugness of Notre Dame takes a backseat to the irrational and indignant whining from the good ol' boys of the SEC. Your states are the poorest, most uneducated and have the worst healthcare in the country. Stop giving all your state tax dollars to these stupid football programs you crooked, selfish, morons!!!

Ugh, you're the worst Thumper, fine! A MiLB deal sounds OK to me.

Why was Max Kepler allowed to stink and then work his way through facing left handed pitchers but this new crop of hitters aren't allowed the same grace? Max Kepler had a !.430! OPS in 2017 against lefties while getting 137 plate appearances. Wallner, Larnach and Julien only got 100 PA against lefties COMBINED last year, and every one of those guys fared better than 2017 Max Kepler. Derek Falvey was here, Baldelli wasn't. I think someone needs to be firm with the manager and let him know he's got to get over this mental roadblock.

Sorry, but the second line is what should be sending up the red flags. "The Twins have accomplished next-to nothing this offseason. Fortunately, at least according to FanGraphs, nearly any offensive addition would help." That is obviously not true as we see just about 'any offensive addition' does in fact NOT help most years. Aside from the Carlos Santana outlier, only top end free agents have worked out here. Don't add some broken down vet just because FanGraphs has a minimally positive projection. And I have no problem trading Paddock or Vazquez, but why would you trade them both just to afford one of these names? I'd rather the team not do a damn thing and annoy us all with the inactivity this winter.

Nice! I have a few of those, but never noticed until seeing them next to each other that 1962-1965 was the exact same pic?!?! Must have been weird for Jim Perry when Jack Kralick showed back up to take his place in the photo!

Isn't that the old drug dealer trick? Favley left a baggy of Margot on the coffee table knowing Baldelli would be too tempted to resist? C'mon Rocco, you know you want a taste.....

I jump on that, which makes me think it’s a tall order. Im not even sure what I’d do with a top ten pick this year. Too early for IOL based on most rankings. Mason Graham would be the right choice I suppose, but I’d still like to wait for combine info to come out. Michigans DL is awesome, maybe he’s good because the guys next to him are also studs. I know it’s not cool to do anymore, but I might just say, screw it, take Jeanty and enjoy the offensive fireworks.

Usually a less familiar name pops, so I gotta throw one out for a prediction. I kind of want to pick Ty Langenberg as he fits that no-name low-draft profile starter the Twins have been hitting on, and he pitched well last year with little fanfare. However, he's a Big 10 pitcher, and Big 10 pitchers don't tend to pan out. So I'm going to go with Rayne Doncon instead.

I'm open to trading Duran, but I'm not interested in more prospects. And if they are trading for prospects, it needs to be for upside bats. This team's issue is that they just have not found enough consistently productive hitters. They should be prioritizing finding enough reliable bats to slot into at least the first six spots in the lineup. Bench players, platoon catchers and swing-arms are what you should be looking for AFTER you have a solid batting order and front of the rotation.

At some point people are going to realize that McCarthy would probably be the top QB in this draft class, I could see this happening. If they used a top five pick on a corner, I'd probably lose my mind though. I know, I'm the anti-CB guy, but man, this team just cannot keep throwing those picks away anymore.

Double plays for a catcher? What is this conversation about again? You said the Twins shouldn't get rid of Vazquez for McCann because Jeffers doesn't throw out base runners. Even though McCann is better at it than both Jeffers and Vazquez.
  13. nicksaviking
I wouldn't say it's 'junk science' but I also wouldn't say there's a terribly reliable methodology either since we don't know which pitches the umpire was going to miss with or without the 'framing'. Umpires are missing about 11 pitches per game now, which contrary to popular belief is way down from decades past: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/strike-three-lets-check-in-on-umpire-accuracy/ Assuming half of those misses were called strikes but should be balls, they're missing 5-6 strikes per game available for catchers to steal, so 2-3 per team. Even if a catcher can steal all three, which sounds unlikely, I don't think a three net *possible* strikes is enough to prioritize that skill.
  14. nicksaviking
Just like running out ground balls, it's worth the effort to frame the pitches, but in today's game the results continue to diminish with the technology and uniform strike zone. I wouldn't go too far out of my way to find a good framer over a catcher with other positive attributes, and I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to sign or develop one for multiple years because robot umps could happen any season now.
  15. nicksaviking
So despite them 'running at will' on Jeffers, he allowed a measly 6 more runners to advance (while throwing out two more) than Vazquez did. So saving 6 more stolen bases is worth the .575 OPS?
  16. nicksaviking
And further update: Uhhhhh, Jeffers only threw out 17% of his baserunners last year. Compared to Vazquez's 16%. I guess find another stat to cherry pick?
  17. nicksaviking
Yeah, there is. Ask fundamentals-are-essential God Tom Kelly who put Brian Harper behind the plate for six seasons.
  18. nicksaviking
I agree. The QB draft hype this year is going to look more artificial than normal. It's probably not quite as bad as the 2022 class where Kenny Pickett was the default top QB, but it's close. And teams don't give up nearly as big of a haul for any other position.
  19. nicksaviking
I hope so. So far that draft class of pitchers hasn't popped like the prior classes.
  20. nicksaviking
Crazy that there are currently 9 teams within one game of the 1st overall pick. And I don't think that any of these teams are purposefully tanking. The best part is that the Bears have lost 10 straight, only have four wins, and are currently picking 9th!
  21. nicksaviking
I honestly couldn't care less who the backup catcher is. But how is McCann "much worse" than Vazquez? Vazquez hasn't had an OPS over .600 since he got to Minnesota. There is no amount of defense that could make up for Vazquez's lack of offense.
  22. nicksaviking
Brave bet. I had fantasy titles on the line and was worried all day that someone above him was going to force Campbell to sit the starters.
  23. nicksaviking
Ouch. Moody's face says that he knows his time in the league is over after next week.
  24. nicksaviking
For sure. But there seems to be way more of those kinds of franchises now than there used to be. Too many over-confident billionaires that think they know more than they do about football just because they know more than most people about business.
  25. nicksaviking
QB options are limited next year, I'm guessing they'd still get a ton from a dumb and desperate team and still too much from even a smart team. I mean, for as average as he is, that's probably Sheduer Sanders' ceiling.
