  1. When Falvey left Cleveland, I believe he had an agreement not to hire any personnel from that organization for a year. Following the World Series that year will be up. After a year of review, I think chances are we could be start seeing people come over Cleveland. I would suspect people he probably targeted a year ago. This is certainly a major opportunity to bring in people that could change the pitching rut the Twins have been in for the past 30 years.
  2. I like crazy ideas too. Maybe we get Sano a shin guard? Seems like he hurt his leg while batting.
  3. My hope is the same every year. That 3 or 4 will become impact arm in the Twins bullpen. This was a pretty amazing year in the bullpens for Twins minors especially when you consider none of the top talked about relief prospects from the beginning of the year was in the mix.
  4. I guess a question would be where does Littell fall into the Twins pitching plans. Is he ready to compete with Romero & Gonsalves in 2018 for a spot in the Twins rotation? Looking at his overall numbers, including innings pitched, he may be ahead. I would think all 3 could at least start 2018 at Rochester with best pitcher as first callup.
  5. Besides catcher, the Twins have worked Garver at left field, first base and DH in the minor. They never seemed overly concerned at mazimizing his catching innings as they would with a projected future starter at catcher. So he's either a brilliant catcher or not a starter prospect. I am going with a flexible backup catcher with a good bat. As far as Castro and concussion issues, we have experience with that. We know what it did to Mauer's career and Castro has not been in that class as a hitter. I would expect Gimenez to catch most of the games in September. Garver has an opportunity to pick up playing time and prove he deserves to be in the majors in 2018..
  6. Gibson has good enough "stuff", unfortunately he has rarely brought it to games the past 2 years. Right now I would plan to sign him in off season arbitration for next year more as a cheap place holder than as a proven 3 or 4 in the rotation. Hopefully 2 of Trevor May, Romero or Gonsalves will fight their way into the rotation at some point in 2018. I don't see much in the offseason free agent starter bin that I would want to budget 3 years for and Gibson will only cost 1 year and maybe 5-6 mil.
  7. They wouldn.t push him through the minors to be a 4th outfielder. By definition that would be someone who plays occasionally. By the end of next year they will need a firstbaseman who can hit and referably hit with power for a change. Be a run producer. The firstbase position should be opening up. Do we really want to put someone at a position that hasn't played there much in a couple of years? I don't think so. Therefore you move him to first.
  8. IMO, Rooker appears to be ready for Chattanoonga next year. I hope he gets off to great start and makes the Twins late in 2018. Or even early would be good too. Any chances he plays in Arizona this fall? P.S. I would put him at first base whereever he plays.
  9. I think that the long term goal is to have him pitch in Minnesota at some point next year, not squeeze a couple hundred more pitches out of his arm this year. At this point, control, command and movement have to be as big a factor as speed. He may not have the energy left in his arm to command where that fastball is going or the movement on it is gone, even though it appears to be as fast. I would finish up his year, by bringing him up after his playoffs are over, just to sit on the bench not pitch and start adjusting to the Twins team and talking to the vets and learning about the group I hope he is part of next year.
  10. I posted this quote to Warne "Warne Way to Early Post" and don't know why it got here.
  11. He looked pretty good. His fastball usually at 96 and a good breaking ball. While he obviously had the jitters, which mostly affected his breaking ball, he put together a 1-2-3 inning with 1 strikeout.
  12. It's disappointing to realize the regular minor league season ends in about 1 week Saw Curtiss pitch in his ML debut yesterday (on TV). He's listed as the #19 prospect. Hildenberger and Busenitz are not listed at all. Can't wait to see the good relievers make it. Hopefully 2018.
  13. Personally I have a hard time counting players at single A and below as surplus. Plenty of raw tools, but still mostly hope and hype. If you do trade one of those guys, your trade return won't match the hope you have for those players. Plus even a single A player is at least 2 years away which puts them at 2020 or later before they impact the major league team. That said, by default they need to keep Gordon to play along side of Polanco in the middle infield. Even if they resign Dozier ( for at least a 3 year extension?), I don't see him maintaining his ability to play an average defensive second base for 3 or 4 more years. As far as pitching trades go, I think our AAA and AA rosters are going to be loaded with more pitching talent in 2018 then we've seen in a lot of years. Hopefully we won't see as many injuries next year.
  14. I give them an A for effort, an A+ for trying different things and an A+++ for willingness to move on from failed decisions and recognizng when things just aren't working.
  15. Rooker watch. In the 3 game Tampa series in 14 AB's he had 6 hits and 8 strikeouts. I guess that's called the good and the bad. But he also had 2 homers and 5 rbi's.
  16. For the type of hitter Joe is, if he played middle infield or catcher he would have value. As a 1B/DH or for a bench role he would need to demonstrate power. I don't think for the limited number of bench spots available the Twins can afford to tie up a roster spot for this type of player. Most other teams are in the same boat.
  17. Looks like Rooker has come on strong after his initial adjustment period in Ft Myers. He has 20 rbi's in 29 AB's with runners in scoring position. Also very good to see Tyler Jay back on the mound.

    Enns this experiment now!

The Twins need to find out which players at the upper levels are ready or almost ready to help them next year. How else are they going to do it?
  19. He will retire. I don't foresee a Jeter style early announcement city to city gift fest however.
  20. With his hitting ability, I can easily see future Rosario being in some AL top ten list in hitting average. He has been the Twins top average hitter since July of 2016 with an OPS over 800 during that time. Probably never see him among OBP leaders. But just as he faked the pitcher into a balk leading to the winning run the other day, I think he is still trying to figure out wht he can do in this game. Moliter is also not so fast to bench him for a couple games after a brain fart. I am not sure if hat is good or bad.
  21. Maybe it was as simple as Moliter and Allen had a game plan on what to do if and when the rookie pitcher had an implosion in his first major league start. Not beyond the realm of probability.
  22. An injured reliver that appears to be missing from the lists is Jay.
  23. When nearly a third of the roster is in one area (average about 8 relievers) maybe the program should include the complete identification and development of relief pitchers instead of drawing from a failed category. That is pitchers who don't make it as starters.
  24. It makes one wonder why the Twins would trade for or sign a free agent relief pitcher. With as bad as the Twins relief pitching as been, a lot of these guys should be getting tryouts with the major league club. It really makes you wonder what the program is.
