  1. With only 6 walks allowed in 60 innings, I hope someone can teach Jax some control soon. Over his last 5 starts he has averaged better than a strikeout per inning.
  2. Moliter came to the job with no managment experience. Moliter is not a bad manager but he is the wrong manager for the current situation. Looking at it as a fan, to me Moliter always looked like someone who wanted an experienced veteran laden team. He didn't seem comfortable inserting young players and rookies into the lineup and letting them make their mistakes. The front office has made it very apparent they plan to develop and add even more youth to the roster. If anything, going forward this team will have even more inexperienced young players and rookies getting incorporated into the team. They need a manager and coaches in step with this or they are never going to develop a consistently winning team.
  3. Guys on 1 year contracts. Guys on last year contracts. Both groups should be playing their butts off for a new contract. The rest are young guys looking for better arbitration or looking to build for that first arbitration season. Again should be playing their butts off. Their were and are no long termers sitting fat and lazy. I don't know about bad chemistry but their is alot of bad math as in bad overall numbers.
  4. Dozier best value is probably just to plug what would otherwise be a hole at second base. He probably has no real trade value. He certainly isn't a cleanup hitter, but then who on the team is doing well enough to push him out of that spot?
  5. Not looking good so far. But they have 50 games or so to work on regaining his swing at the major lague level. This would give them a better determination of offseason needs.
  6. I seem to remember a story about someone trading a prize bull (or was it an old cow) for 3 magic beans. Here's to hoping one of the beans sprouts.
  7. I expected to see Escobar traded, but if this is the best we can get I don't hold much hope out for the trade prospects of our other short term assets. I really would not want to trade Gibson or Pressly since we have another year left with them, although I recognize our return could be greater. Amazing that we couldn't even break into another teams top 10 prospects. So disappointing.
  8. It would be nice to know that we are developing more of these hitting stud (C/1B,DH) as catchers then 1B/DH. But if these guys are only catching 25-40% of the time, its difficult to see an emphasis placed on the catching part.
  9. I keep wondering when teams will go back to a 4 day rotation with 2 guys scheduled to pitch 3-4 innings each day. In theory pitchers would rarely face a lineup 3 times through. They would throw 75 pitches or so each and rarely use their 3 or 4th best pitch. Most pitchers get hurt when they try to implement that extra pitch on the third time through the lineup or trying to pace themselves by "taking something off their best pitch". Another factor would be pitching development. Guys are contantly held up in the minors to develop that third pitch. Just develop your best weapons and move on. Obviously there would still be days when pitcher # 1 or #2 blows up, but that will happen no matter what system you use. You could still have 4-5 bullpen guys to get you through the rest of the game. Your best pitcher could "start" 40 times a year this way even if he doesn't pitch as long on any particuler day. Your second pitcher could stand to chalk up a lot of wins this way.
  10. I would not want to see the Twins sign or trade for a veteran player that would take playing time away from a prospect less than a year away from the majors. Don't give Moliter that temptation. In spite of the play and the record, my biggest disappointment in the team this year is that not a single every day or pitching prospect has earned their chops at the major league level. True, the everyday prospect options were not great, but their seemed to be plenty of pitching options that should have allowed at least 1 starter and 2 relievers making an impact. There was Romero somewhat. Here's a thought. Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Rosario and Polance were all getting some playing time at the major league level in 2015. This is the 4th season since than. If our next wave doesn't start hitting the bigs until 2020 and take 3-4 years to become impact players, Buxton and Sano, et al, will be nine-ten year veterans.
  11. I agree that a 2018 return to Minnesota shouldn't be a major concern. To me everything should be geared towards a productive 2019. Sano was having difficulty with sliders when he went down and I do think that Triple A pitchers have better breaking pitches and thus will provide a bigger challenge.
  12. Notes on Gonzalvez last game - not intended for scouting purposes. He always pitches from stretch. His front leg sometimes kicks behind him, sometimes in front of him sometimes behind him that looks sorta like winding up from the stretch position. If you can imagine that. His stride is shorter with runners on base, which seems to give him better control and h steps more directly towards the plate. Each walk had 2-3 high pitches, probably fastballs. Very few curves thrown, although frequently in the dirt. He walk 1 batter in the first, 1 in second, 2 in third and 1 in sixth. His control got better after runners got on base. His head bobs up and down a lot. Most strikeouts seemed to come on the changeup with batters frequently fooled. Other notes - In his last 33 innings he has given up 14 hits all singles. Tidbit - By system mandate a pitcher who throws 35 or more pitches in a single inning must be pulled from game. Gonzales threw 31 in 3rd inning. He doesn't nibble but does let the ball fly. Definitely has command issues. I was just curious.
  13. The worst phrase I have read in a long time is "The Twins plan to hold steady at the Trade Deadline". I don't know if this is a trade deadline smoke screen or more seriously misguided team management plan to sell 12 more tickets this year to the casual fan. Plan A should be "How do we compete with Houston, New York, Los Angeles or Boston", not how do we win 2 more games against a seriously weak division. We are 6 games under after a romping homestand against 3 of the worst teams in baseball. We did beat up on 2 of the 3 teams at the bottom of the runs scored against column. Tampa Bay does have more wins than the Twins, but they have been selling off their best assets over the past year or more. I guess those are measuring sticks. There are still 8 teams in the league with more wins than the Twins. This team should be doing every thing it can to add talent for next year and future years and finding out what it already hason the farm that will help next year. Whether it says so or not this team has been standing pat at the trade deadline for 8 years or more, maybe its way past time to try something different.
  14. Looks like Hand has a three year contract following this year including an option year. That's too bad, but I'm happy to see that Cleveland traded Francisco Mejia. They've been too successful at developing players recently for future Twins hopes.
  15. Whether Gordon makes it up in July or September, I would expect him to spend most of his time sitting on the bench. Then he'll get thrown in to pinch hit in the 13th inning and when he fails he'll get sent back to the minors.
  16. Following the Felix Jorge release(sans some unknown issue), I don't see the purpose of making a trade for players that have less upside then him. I am not trying to make Felix Jorge the standard for a trade, but it would seem like there should be a minimum trade standard we can identify with. Now who can we trade to get more than a Felix Jorge and who is available. Possibly the best we can do is recent draft picks or international money.
  17. I would scratch my head over the move, except I have already scraped all the hair and skin off. Moves like this seem to indicate that this is definetly going to be a longer rebuild that I hoped for.
  18. must be nice to be one of those teams that regularly develops good players and the fans don't think they need to automatcally consider trading them for more prospects.
  19. No it wasn't clear. Also, I was referring to anyone on current 25 man roster. As if that wasn't obvious.
  20. Who is signed past 2020?
  21. I think if you do trade Escobar, be prepared and trying to trade everyone currently on the roster but Berrios and Rosario (maybe Kepler and Hildenberger, not implying they are more valuable then Escobar).
  22. It is interesting had all but 2 maybe 3 Twins hitters have looked lost or just plain bad this year. Hope not,but maybe last year was an aberration. Maybe new hitting theories being incorporated into the system that players are having a tough time adjusting to.
  23. Against all recent Twins history, sometimes it pays to sell high. Doesn't mean I like the idea or want to trade him.
  24. When the year started, I expected to keep an eye certain players in the minors. I just wasn't expecting them to be named Sano, Buxton and Palanco. Currently there are 10 teams in the American league with better records than the Twins. We could finish better than a couple of them, but passing 6 teams to get into a wild card race will be difficult. Catching Cleveland doesn't look like a too likely option either. Shopping players for the rest of the season seems the most likely course of action. Unfortunately our record is bad and any tradeable players are causing the win/loss results. Seen too much of this the last 8 years. They could hold second half auditions for the 2019 roster, but I just as soon they not bring up players until they are truly ready, I've also seen enough failure from our star prospects. I'll continue to watch minor league baseball and next years draft standings.
