  1. We could use one more K then one more insurance run then I can wash the dog.
  2. Whew, that was a much needed K.
  3. Someone should be warming up in the bullpen.
  4. This game is far from over. Another insurance run would be good.
  5. Nice prayer, and a nice answer from Sano.
  6. It seems to me that if the batter is a very fast runner that should affect the calculus, both in terms of sacrificing and bunting to get a hit.
  7. Polanco seemed determine to hit one out. Nice at bat.
  8. I still don't understand why Buxton is not better at bunting. It seems to me that perhaps they have not done enough to help him develop that skill.
  9. "Never give up," - Winston Churchill
  10. I would nominate this for the best game thread setup of all time.
  11. Life is better when there is a minor league report to read. Thanks, Seth.
  12. Great article. Eckstein sounds like he knows what he is doing.
  13. I am glad for the extra day of being undefeated.
  14. Moderator note -- we have had to delete some posts in this thread. Please take it easy with the sarcasm and personal attacks.
  15. I share your concern, and wish that the Twins would add more padding to the outfield walls.
  16. Many years ago when I was in high school I volunteered to go door to door seeking votes for the Senate campaign for Al Gore Sr. I was happy that some attractive young women also volunteered, until they were sent to the white part of town while the boys were sent to the black part. I learned something interesting that day. The dogs in the black part of town wanted to kill me just like the dogs on my side of town wanted to kill black men who ventured there. Why were those dogs racist? It seems to me that today's dogs are descended from dogs who protected their humans from humans who were different. And I believe that today's humans are descended from humans who were loyal to their own tribes, and who often wiped out (or assimilated) groups that were less tribalistic.
  17. What about Trump's idea of allowing insurance companies to compete across state lines in order to foster more competition? Is this a good idea or merely a Trojan horse to allow further consolidation?
  18. I agree with you Dave, and I would add big hospitals to that list. Too often, the big hospitals are acting with monopolistic pricing power. Also, because it may take 60 votes in the Senate to address those issues, bipartisanship may be necessary to get anywhere.
  19. On reflection, I agree that similar messages should be sent to Republican leadership. The reason that I initially focused on Franken and Warren is that I have been a significant contributor to their campaigns and to Franken's PAC. I see them as potential leaders in this effort. I am glad that I posted this on TD. As I hoped, good ideas have been presented that have changed my thinking.
  20. I just sent the following message to Al Franken's website: "I am glad that the Republicans failed to pass their health care legislation. But I am unhappy with the Democrats celebrating this when they should be governing. Obamacare was flawed from the start. Even Obama acknowledged that it could be improved, but the "party of no" blocked him. Next week, the Democrats could show some real leadership by proposing some compromises that would include many of the changes that Obama wanted to make. Please consider working on both sides of the aisle, and in the media, to find common ground that will help the American people. You will likely fail, but please try. The American people deserve your best effort, not a celebration of the train wreck that happened last week." Anyone who wants to join in might send a similar message to Senator Franken at the following link: https://www.franken.senate.gov/?p=email_al I will be sending similar messages to Senator Warren and to my own Senators. Am I being naive? Or is this a meaningful opportunity to find common ground on an issue where failure costs lives?
  21. Amen, brother.
  22. Isn't there some middle ground here? Buxton has lost significant playing time from injuries associated with "max effort" on defense. Does it make sense for him to crash a lightly padded wall at full speed during practice? Spring training? A game where the Twins are down by 15 runs in the late innings? Where should the line be drawn? From a fan perspective I love to see max effort. It's inspiring. On the other hand, Buxton is a very fast runner and if he goes all out without regard to the wall, then his career may be hampered or even ended. Buxton's speed is valuable, but also a liability if he hits a wall at full speed. If in some fantasy universe I were the manager, I would talk with Buxton often about a safer approach to walls, with emphasis on using the warning track, and I would show him films of the all-time greats, including Hunter. As I recall, Hunter made a lot of web gems with fewer injuries per web gem than Buxton. I would also develop drills to refine Buxton's ability to locate the wall, using the most padded wall that money can buy. I love seeing any player crash the wall to make a great catch. However, Buxton runs so fast that I fear for his career every time the ball is hit deep.
