  1. "They will join prospects from the rosters of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Miami Marlins, and Tampa Bay Rays." Question -- how is it decided which teams send players to a particular AFL team? Thanks for the excellent article.
  2. Yet the arbitrator found that Pineda made a compelling case that he was not using the diuretic to mask PED use. Also, you are assuming that Pineda sought out the drug, but for all we know it was offered to him as something harmless to quickly lose some weight. And for all we know, the Twins were telling him what he needed to do to lose weight, but he stupidly took a shortcut that he thought was harmless, because he was not taking PEDs. We are missing many pieces of the puzzle. Presumably, the arbitrator had access to some of those pieces. I am not saying that Pineda was not masking PEDs, but I do believe that there is strong reason to believe that this was a product of stupidity, not cheating.
  3. I think that sometimes people who are not stupid do a stupid thing. This is from ESPN's website: "Pineda originally was suspended for 80 games, but the ban was reduced to 60 on appeal, as a compelling case was made that the banned diuretic he used was not a masking agent for performance-enhancing drugs, a source told ESPN's Jeff Passan." https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/27560862/twins-rhp-pineda-given-60-game-suspension It seems to me that if he was not taking the diuretic to mask PEDs, then it was, at worst, stupid to take the diuretic. Unless ESPN's source is lying, Pineda made a "compelling case" that he was not masking PED use. It also appears that some over the counter supplements illegally include prescription drugs. https://www.goodrx.com/blog/common-prescription-medications-found-in-dietary-supplements/ I would also invite you to discuss the post from LAVikesfan -- post #65 in this thread. I am having trouble poking holes in his analysis. Until yesterday, most of us were Pineda fans. He pitched well for our favorite team and we would have loved to meet him. Now he is being labeled a cheater and worse. It seems to me that there is significant reason to believe that maybe he made a stupid decision, but is not a cheater. I am not saying that Pineda did not cheat. Maybe he did. But it sounds like on appeal he was able to persuade the authorities that he was not masking PEDs.
  4. If he knew that he was taking a banned substance then I suspect that the reason would not matter to me. So I think that we are in agreement on that point. If he thought that he was taking a perfectly OK diet pill, would that matter to you? I think that his intent matters to the extent that people want to judge his character.
  5. I think that it matters in the context of the discussion of his character and the appropriate level of anger that fans should be feeling. For example, if he took an over the counter diet pill that he was told was OK, then my anger level would be less than if he was trying to conceal use of PEDs. Some posters have been very derogatory as to Pineda's character and I think that LAVikesfan has cast some doubt on the theory that Pineda was trying to mask use of PEDSs.,
  6. If you are correct, then it seems that this was mere stupidity, not negligence, and that there was an express finding that he was not trying to hide his use of a banned substance. I would like to know what actually happened, and if I am understanding you analysis then my initial rage against Pineda will be greatly reduced. Can you provide any additional support for this position?
  7. Great article about what appears to be an outstanding young man.
  8. Thank you Tom Froemming, Cody Christie, Steve Lein, Ted Schwerzler, Matt Braun and Seth Stohs. Your work this year has been stellar -- the best since TD started this feature. The reports have been consistently thorough, informative and entertaining. Clearly a lot of work went into this and I am very grateful for all that you have done here,
  9. Soul crushing loss for us, but arguably the best game of this year in MLB. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2846828-didi-gregorius-yankees-beat-twins-in-wild-win-4-lead-changes-in-last-3-innings
  10. Excellent first post. Welcome to TD.
  11. Great article. He sounds like a smart person who will do all that he can to succeed.
  12. The draft coverage here has been excellent. Thanks for all of this.
  13. Looking at the footage, it seems to me that Buxton could have caught the ball if he had slowed down once he hit the warning track. I would also like to see a bigger warning track that would provide more warning time. https://www.mlb.com/video/buxton-leaves-game-in-2nd
  14. I agree that better padding would be a worthwhile investment. And I still hold a grudge about Mauer's knee injury from the loose artificial turf at the Metrodome.
  15. I see similarities with the 1965 Twins, which I believe was the best ever. I agree with some of the prior posters who say that it's too soon to tell for sure, but I think that there are signs that this year's team might be the best ever and that it would be fun to discuss that.
  16. Except the Orioles, their fans, and I suspect the moderators of their fansite.
