  1. I love Mitch, but I think we're putting too much stock into his rise. Let's see him replicate 2019 before even mentioning him in the conversation for best catcher in the game. For the final five, I'd have them ordered: 5. Lewis 4. Graterol (we need pitching desperately) 3. Polanco 2. Kepler 1. Berrios
  2. Not to be negative after a great win, but Duffy has been such a disappointment this year. I know his ER tonight came from Rodger's, but clean outings are few and far between for him. At this point is he even guaranteed a spot on the 2018 roster? I'm not sure.
  3. They shouldn't have bothered tendering Santiago a contract. Last year, his trade value was the ghost of Alex Meyer and Ricky Nolasco; even if he pitches to his career norms he is not a flip candidate. They now have ~$8 million wasted on the books, and worse yet, a starting spot. If 2 of May, Berrios, and Duffy are not in the rotation to start the year, this is going to be a longer season than we think. If we're relying on veterans to get injured to give the young guys with potential a chance, something is seriously wrong. Stop with the lip service to outdated thinking. Cut Santiago asap, don't be afraid of pushing Hughes out of the rotation if he's ineffective, gauge the market and trade Santana when you can this summer, and for the love of God, don't let Vogelsong near the mound unless half the people mentioned above get hurt. 2017 is the beginning of a new regime. Let's have a new M.O. as well.
  4. I know the AL Central is weak, and will probably be the weakest division in baseball, but these lines seem too negative for mid-February. I say it's easy to take the over here. 72.5, like Brock said, seems much better. I'd probably bump the White Sox and Royals' lines up a win or two as well.
  5. I think JDL's ceiling is a #3 with some minor durability concerns (i can't see him averaging more than 150-160 innings per year). It isn't just the shoulder soreness, but his weight deviations over the years that alarm me. I know it seems minor, but the amount of weight he lost last offseason training with his tennis player gf is a bad sign. You're going to lose weight during the season too, so if staying lean opens you up to health problems then getting through 6 months with consistent weight and strength is highly questionable. I don't know how much to let Berrios's disasterous 2016 season affect my image of him, but I was hopeful he'd be a respectable 2; if he becomes a solid 3 I still think that's a win. If he's throwing 93-95 like he seemingly was in the minors then I think he'll get there, but if for some reason he keeps up the 91-93 stuff he was working with a lot last year, I'm worried he won't be going anywhere. I haven't seen him pitch in person though, so I especially can't comment on his short stature affecting his fastball's downward plane.
  6. My emotions are conflcited right now. I don't love JDL and his specific red flags scare me, but barring some unexpected developments it's hard to point to a clear team to discuss Dozier with even in July; first, you need him to keep producing big numbers (not totally unreasonable but some decline from 2016 is likely), second, you need a team to suffer an injury or a serious underachiever, and third, you need that team to have the prospects, preferably pitching, that are good enough to pull the trigger on a deal. However, I don't for a minute believe JDL+Alvarez was offered. If it was and the Twins tried to bargain for more for weeks on end, I highly doubt LA wouldn't have leaked that in an effort to show how crazy Minnesota was being. While the baseball world's view wasn't overly negative, a number of people did say anonymously that the Dodgers were being "stingy" with prospects, and the offer was described as "JDl+junk". I can imagine LA wanting to course correct industry view if they were really willing to deal their (arguably) 2 best pitching prospects in the same deal. I hope we know more details eventually, I'm just dubious anything better than JDL+Calhoun was ever seriously offered--and that's not a deal I'd take. Here's hoping the 2017 draft goes well!
  7. I guess I'm a bit late but since I never post I'll go for it. I'm 22, so beefing up the younger ranks here. I'm from NY, a stone's throw from Queens, but I currently live abroad in Russia. I've never actually stepped foot in Minnesota, although I imagine I will spend some time there in the future. I started rooting for the Twins when I was 7, during the early part of the 2002 season. I had abandoned the Yankees after they signed Giambi, since I was legitimately upset that they were trying to buy championships. Anyway, that outfield of Hunter, Jones, & eventually Stewart was super cool and so easy to root for. I'd say my favorite players have been Torii, Jacque Jones, Denard Span, and Cuddyer. I really like Buxton and Kepler but I need to give them some time before they become favorites. My favorite moment was the entirety of game 163 against the Tigers (although game 163 against the Chisox was an incredible game despite the loss). I've been lurking here for years--not sure the exact number though. It's always seemed a little inconvenient to post, but following the intelligence and wit of the site is a pleasure. To be honest, I've been thinking about my career lately and I'd love to try to get a job in baseball, so if anyone has any advice or anything feel free to let me know (especially if Jack Goin is reading this =D).
  8. I hate this organization so much. Who pulled the trigger on that pick when you have your choice of the college pitchers you've been in on for months? Let's take the kid who's nearly a year older than his HS competition and is already notorious for a lack of bat speed. I never understood the love for AK and I still don't.
  9. I know he's been hitting well since taking over at SS, but there's always been something about Escobar that rubs me the wrong way or fails to impress me. I don't know if I'm just being irrational but I don't think he should be here long-term.
  10. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Achter isn't a big league pitcher.
  11. Holy hell when will this stuff end?
  12. Yeah I guess I'm a bad (or merely cynical/practical--pick whichever you see as more appropriate) fan too. To be honest, I don't even think this team would stand a chance in the WC game on the road. I'd rather them win as much as possible, finish above .500%, but just miss out on the WC to avoid the smackdown they'd inevitably receive. It also scares me since I think nabbing that extra WC spot might placate the FO a bit into doing less than needs to be done in the offseason. 2016 though? As long as the FO doesn't jumble the offseason (and hold down Berrios for too long...) the Twins could have a real shot to not only win games, but make an impact in the AL.
  13. I love Dozier but he does need to be moved down in the order. I don't want to be too critical but what the hell has Bruno been doing to fix this over the past few weeks?
  14. Also, I'm not just saying this because of tonight, but Norris is really good so it's gonna suck to have him in the division for the next few years.
  15. Well, they can redeem this by taking at least 3 of 4 from the Angels, but I doubt that's happening. Also, David, I sent you a PM like you told me to in case you didn't see it (I'm actually going abroad to teach English, and it sounds like you're working with language too).
  16. I still can't believe with runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out they got nothing, AND THEN with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs they got nothing.
  17. Yep ... that's about how it goes...
  18. I'd have rather seen Tonkin than Duensing.
  19. I have no idea where to post this, so I guess I'll do it here for now: Does anyone have any idea where I would be able to watch the replay or playbacks of Twins game? I'm moving abroad next week and with the time difference will not really be able to watch games live. Also, MLB's playback service is insanely overpriced, so hopefully someone knows of somewhere else.
  20. I've seen a few people say it before: We need to let Perkins regain his form and value to kick off next year and then trade him at his peak. With his history, it appears his second half troubles stem from his body not being up to the grind, so he should be good to go next April (for a few months at least). Otherwise, May should get every opportunity to be the good starter he was becoming, and if Tyler Jay isn't given a shot to start then that pick is a complete bust for me. You don't use top-10 picks on stick-thin pitchers hoping to use them 50 innings a year. He has a lot of potential, but it needs to be developed, and developed as a starter. I still have faith in Burdi (even though he had the exact same control problems at Louisville, I'm hoping consistent work at the upper levels is soon to come) and I think with Meyer's pros and cons developing into a ++late inning asset is in his wheelhouse. Then, considering all the other college power arms we've taken over the past 2 or 3 years in the draft, and statistically at least 1 of them will hit and contribute.
  21. If Milone is given a spot in the rotation next year it will be a serious problem. I know he's been good at times in the past, but at some point we just need to move on from soft-tossing back of the rotation guys.
