  1. Shoemaker gets 1 more start. If he doesn't look decent, DFA him. Morneau mentioned on last night's broadcast how strange it felt to note May games seemed like "must-wins," but damnit they absolutely have to go at least 5-2 this week. Here's hoping for the best.
  2. A bummer to hear about Nick Gordon's struggles, I've always rooted for him to succeed because he seems like a great guy. That 2013-15 draft stretch is really biting the Twins in the rear right about now. To have three top-6 picks and miss on all of them is a killer. Imagine where this team would be if even 1 had become a regular...
  3. Hayes said the game was cancelled--does that mean we're just doing 160 games if things go well now? Not sure how you'd make up 2 games, unless you do 6 games in 4 days when the Angels come to town later this year, which seems insane.
  4. I think Arraez can mostly keep this up--no reason he can't bat .320 on the year. Sano's at-bats do look good, even if he still swings and misses a lot. I'll listen to Morneau when he routinely says Sano's approach is encouraging. Polanco and Kepler are worrying me. They're taking a lot of weak swings and guessing wrong seemingly every at-bat and end up watching hittable pitches go down the middle. If those guys can't both put up a consistent .750+ OPS, this lineup is not going to be top-10 in the league.
  5. It wasn't the whole bullpen. Stashak and Rogers were great and Robles was good after the first few pitches looked a bit rough. This is all on Colome and the defense.
  6. If the Twins miss the playoffs this year, it's an utter and embarrassing failure. If they make the playoffs and get swept again, it's an embarrassing failure. If they make the playoffs but lose a close series, it's a disappointment. If they win a playoff series, the rest is gravy.
  7. While I agree he should have caught it, I blame Colome more for giving up that rocket.
  8. I don't see the Reds spending more than 10 seconds digesting this before hanging up. Polanco is not good enough to be the major chip in a trade for a front-line pitcher. Considering the Reds were so stubborn in wanting Torres from the Yankees and the Twins have multiple top-30 prospects, Lewis or Kirilloff would need to be involved to get it done. Lewis+Duran or Balazovic+low level lottery ticket (organizational rank 16-25) might be enough, but even then negotiations would take a while.
  9. Since Kirilloff and the college hitters look like sure MLB regulars, it will all depend on how the pitching prospects turn out. If 2 of Duran, Balazovic, Canterino, and Winder hit, the team will be fine. What's more of a hot take however: they may need to trade Berrios after the 2021 season. If you want to extend windows you need to maximize return on everybody, so if Berrios doesn't sign an extension with the team and they're not ready to give him $100 million after 2022, they should trade him to maximize return. That would hurt a whole lot less if Duran proves himself this season.
  10. If Trevor Larnach and a lotto ticket isn't enough for Musgrove (or a vet already on the team like Garver or Rogers being involved), I'd pass. The farm system doesn't have enough pitching to include in trades and Musgrove isn't worth a blue chipper or multiple 50+ V guys.
  11. If Rogers is going to get +$5 million in arbitration, you could theoretically reframe the debate into who you'd rather have, Rogers or May. I think I lean May in that case, and you can shop Rogers for something.
  12. Rocco didn't make a single good decision in either game. If this streak doesn't end next year I don't see how they can keep him in 2022. Otherwise, goodbye Rosie and look to get off of Sano's deal. Might not be bad seeing what Polanco and Rogers would fetch too.
  13. I don't care if they miraculously advance--I never want to see Romo pitch in a Twins uniform again. Also, taking Jeffers out was beyond dumb.
  14. Thanks for taking the time to lay this out--it's very clear. It's a shame we will likely end up with 3/4 AL matchups being interdivisional. The higher seeds should be able to choose their opponents--that way the Twins would get the Astros or Jays.
  15. Not just once in a generation, more like once in a century. Obviously we all have to think about the health ramifications for everyone in the country as well as the families of those who've died from COVID, but boy did the MLB mess this up badly. If the Twins or Indians have any positive cases I think that might have to be the final straw before at least a league-wide pause.
  16. I hope he's good and the power tool does look legit, but boy is it depressing to see them completely bypass the college arm route when there are several intriguing options on the board. If you're gonna gamble, miswell do it at 27. Feels like Sabato is gonna be trade bait in 2021 if he does perform, cause there is no way to fit all of these corner guys.
  17. I love Mitch, but I think we're putting too much stock into his rise. Let's see him replicate 2019 before even mentioning him in the conversation for best catcher in the game. For the final five, I'd have them ordered: 5. Lewis 4. Graterol (we need pitching desperately) 3. Polanco 2. Kepler 1. Berrios
  18. Not to be negative after a great win, but Duffy has been such a disappointment this year. I know his ER tonight came from Rodger's, but clean outings are few and far between for him. At this point is he even guaranteed a spot on the 2018 roster? I'm not sure.
  19. They shouldn't have bothered tendering Santiago a contract. Last year, his trade value was the ghost of Alex Meyer and Ricky Nolasco; even if he pitches to his career norms he is not a flip candidate. They now have ~$8 million wasted on the books, and worse yet, a starting spot. If 2 of May, Berrios, and Duffy are not in the rotation to start the year, this is going to be a longer season than we think. If we're relying on veterans to get injured to give the young guys with potential a chance, something is seriously wrong. Stop with the lip service to outdated thinking. Cut Santiago asap, don't be afraid of pushing Hughes out of the rotation if he's ineffective, gauge the market and trade Santana when you can this summer, and for the love of God, don't let Vogelsong near the mound unless half the people mentioned above get hurt. 2017 is the beginning of a new regime. Let's have a new M.O. as well.
  20. I think JDL's ceiling is a #3 with some minor durability concerns (i can't see him averaging more than 150-160 innings per year). It isn't just the shoulder soreness, but his weight deviations over the years that alarm me. I know it seems minor, but the amount of weight he lost last offseason training with his tennis player gf is a bad sign. You're going to lose weight during the season too, so if staying lean opens you up to health problems then getting through 6 months with consistent weight and strength is highly questionable. I don't know how much to let Berrios's disasterous 2016 season affect my image of him, but I was hopeful he'd be a respectable 2; if he becomes a solid 3 I still think that's a win. If he's throwing 93-95 like he seemingly was in the minors then I think he'll get there, but if for some reason he keeps up the 91-93 stuff he was working with a lot last year, I'm worried he won't be going anywhere. I haven't seen him pitch in person though, so I especially can't comment on his short stature affecting his fastball's downward plane.
  21. I hate this organization so much. Who pulled the trigger on that pick when you have your choice of the college pitchers you've been in on for months? Let's take the kid who's nearly a year older than his HS competition and is already notorious for a lack of bat speed. I never understood the love for AK and I still don't.
  22. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Achter isn't a big league pitcher.
  23. Holy hell when will this stuff end?
  24. Yeah my bad, the 90-day period refers to the player being active. I got a little confused by a tweet I saw.
  25. Molitor had Graham pitch in a bandbox in a key spot despite all the evidence in the world that he is not ready for those situations. edit: never mind to the rule-5 draft stuff, I'm dumb : )
