  1. That's especially true when his solid contact will probably go 380 feet.
  2. Pitching for the Saints would be a pretty good low-leverage role.
  3. His experience is intersecting with my experience more than I would like.
  4. I went to bed after 15. I think that won it for us.
  5. Only 5 K's last night, so scratch that "ace" talk. (Yeah, that was sarcasm. He was brilliant again, although I think both teams shipped their bats back to the mainland before that game.)
  6. I'm with you. With the Rockies/Blackmon I'm not going to wait, however. The likelihood of that deal crashing and burning is just too high.
  7. My first thought when I heard about that deal was "There is no way he will be worth that." My second thought was "That's the Rockies being the Rockies."
  8. So you're saying we should wait until his second at bat?
  9. I wasn't crazy about the decision to send Berrios back out for the 9th. I know his pitch count was low, but it's also the first start of the season.
  10. I wouldn't object - I can get there in a day and we have some friends we could stay with. Don't the A's already have their AAA team there?
  11. Doesn't the regular season usually start on a Sunday or Monday? I'm glad I came to TD today, because I was looking forward to the season starting on April 1st. Happy April Fool's day to me.
  12. I think part of the issue is what is included as working hours. Does the bus ride count? Does showing up early for extra work in the cage count? Another issue could be the varying nuances of minimum wage law from state to state, and even from city to city. It has never been an issue before because nobody has ever sued before. Now they have. I don't know all the details of the law that is being attached, but it sounds like all it really does is maintain the status quo. I don't have a problem with it. If pay was an issue, supply and demand would sort it out. The real issue I have is the minor league players being bound by a CBA in which they had no say and no representation. If you want to address the pay issue, start there.
  13. The system, with the escalating penalties and the one-year reset mechanism, is set up to be cyclical. I'm not sure all the big spenders will be trying to reset in the same year again, but it looks like they have all identified the same penalty level as unacceptable, so they might all follow the same pattern of spend-spend-spend-reset.
  14. I'm worried that Buxton may indeed follow that blueprint. He constantly looks like he is on the verge of catastrophic injury out there and appears to have very little awareness of the location of the walls.
  15. He was better in 2017 and he was better prior to 2016 in the field. He had a bad year with the glove in 2016. I'm not sure why - maybe he had some communication issues playing with some young guys, maybe he didn't put as much work into that side of the ball that year. I think I remember him acknowledging some struggles and putting extra work in to get better during the offseason prior to last year.
  16. He's still on the roster. This thread could still be going until his contract expires (end of 2019?).
  17. Didn't Hughes actually put up some decent numbers in the minors?
  18. I will be glad to accept that bet. How much would you like to wager? BTW, the over/under is 120.
  19. I agree with everything except one word - "getting." The guy is just old, no getting about it. I am not looking forward to the experience - I haven't even strapped in yet and I'm already ready to get off the roller coaster.
  20. Makes me question whether or not you're a Vikings fan.
  21. I guess that's one Browns strategy the Twins haven't borrowed. The last QB I remember them drafting #1 was quite a while ago, and a couple of position changers later. (QB - C -1B) he's still here. I just remembered we did draft one much more recently, and so far it hasn't gone as well as we'd like. There's even talk of him possibly going back to QB sometime.
  22. I would say it does close to the opposite (and is a bit less subtle). I think a cutter is usually held closer to the outside seam with a bit more pressure from the middle finger, causing it to bear in on the lefthanded hitters. (I ignored that fact that you were asking Parker, but I wouldn't mind hearing his more-informed take too.)
  23. Wisely or luckily, depending on who pulled the plug on it.
  24. I thought the Browns' strategy was "draft bad players with behavioral issues." The Twins have definitely experimented with that in the past.
